"Discipline is not something we do to our kids, but something we do for them,"
This book should be standard issue for new parents. It's a great comprehensive look at what discipline is and is not, with practical applications and perspective on the nitty gritty that is everyday life with kids. With so much emphasis on giving kids leave to "be themselves" and "be free" these days, this book was a refreshingly honest look at the other side of that coin.

Great book for those who are struggling with finding a balance as a parent. Wallace brings her thought provoking ideas to the table in a way that doesn't feel pushy. I appreciate her experiences as a parent, as we navigate in this crazy world of parenthood.

This book could not have come at a better time for me. I had just endured a toddler tantrum and was settling into bed as I read the chapters that talked about how to deal with toddler tantrums!
One of the things I appreciated most about this book was that Wallace did not try to tell us how to parent. She shares how she disciplines her children, and why she does things the way she does. But it's never a prescriptive telling of what you must do in order to have well-behaved children.
This book is filled with stories of "me too." Of reminders that it's never going to be perfected. It will never be easy, and it's going to take work. I finished this book incredibly encouraged and have already been able to utlize some of the tools within these pages with some success!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Sara Wallace. As a mom of a new toddler, I'm very interested in disciplinary approaches, as I sense the terrible twos fast approaching. Her approach to discipline was fair, informed and also Gospel-centered. The idea of constantly striving to prepare your child for the future and focus their hearts on God was a great one. I like it much better than some other approaches about sin and rebellion. While Sara doesn't ignore the sin problem, she focuses much more on Gospel and entrusting your children to make decisions that will draw them closer to Jesus.
This book is equal parts practical, theological and personal - and I loved it. Will be recommending to many friends and parents!

I am reviewing a copy of For the Love of Discipline through P&R Publishing and Netgalley:
This book reminds readers Discipline is not something we do to our kids but something we do for them. Discipline is a lifestyle. Readers. also learned it is not an optional, and it's not a quick fix.
Readers learn to that Discipline is not punishment, that it seeks a changed heart as well as it seeks a changed relationship, they are reminded too that there is a such thing as to much discipline as well as to little.
Parents are encouraged to go from emotion led to spirit led discipline. Readers are encouraged not to discipline out of emotions like anger or frustration .
The importance of routine is also discussed, as well as the issues of Tantrums, readers are encouraged not to ignore tantrums but to take the child by hand and to give the child alone time. Parents are encouraged too teach children appropriate responses!
I give For the Love of Discipline five out of five stars!
Happy Reading!

An eye opener!!! I never saw discipline as a blessing, but as a need “pain” to grow close to God! The author does not offer “ingredients” of a well done discipline, but a guide to use your authority in a godly way! For all parents that are exhausted after each day of a fail discipline, there is hope, even in our failures!

Discipline is one of those areas where I can feel really overwhelmed with the big task that it is. I thought this book was a good mix of vision casting for discipline and also practical tips. The first seven chapters are about discovering the Gospel in Discipline and the second seven chapters are practical tools. I found her ideas to be helpful. I also think discipline is one of those areas where you need to find what works best for your individual children and family. With every parenting book I read, I always find tips that are helpful and that I can apply and some things that might not work for my kiddos. This book was no exception. If you are looking for a Gospel Centered discipline book and want some practical tips to start forming your discipline strategy around, I think this is a good quick read.
