I was really looking forward to reading this book as soon as I saw it was being released and I read it the day it arrived on my Kindle!

I really enjoy the author's writing style and how she draws you in to the story so you feel part of it. The characters were great as always and I do love seeing the relationships change and develop when new cases come up.

This one was a completely unputdownable for me and I was gripped by the story. I loved it and couldn't get enough of the book.

I think this is quite possibly my favourite in the series so far and that's saying something as the whole series to date has been superb!!

This is already the fifth book in the series, and when thought I could not be surprised anymore, Ms Wyer goes and does it again! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can't wait to read some more.
Highly recommended.

was a gripping thriller that took you to every aspect of trying to figure out what was really going on and what was going to happen next! This was such an amazing book and I can’t wait to see what else is released from this author!

This book brought back my love for Robyn and the whole series once again. The previous book was a bit of a blip for me but now I seriously cannot wait for book 6! I'm seriously hopeful we finally find out about the mystery of Robyn's husband - believed to be killed on a secret mission. Hmmm.... Either let her move on (another man perfectly lined up) or bring him back properly please! It's driving me crazy!

Thanks to Bookouture for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review.

‪So after loving this series up until book four, The Silent Children, I ended my review of that book doubtful of whether I would continue with the series. Well, what can I say, I am a sucker for a crime fiction series and couldn’t resist the lure of The Chosen Ones. I am mostly glad that I decided to read it. ‬

‪The Chosen Ones is a timely read because it deals with a story that is similar to others that have been in the press recently. Highly topical, sensitive and emotional cases. I won’t allude to what they are because it would ruin the story, but it’s an extremely thought-provoking book that highlights what love can drive a person to do and also makes you think about what you would do in a similar situation. I must award marks to Carol Wyer for keeping me guessing throughout. I had no idea how things would conclude as I read and was impressed with the revelations that came out as everything started to unravel and the case came to a close. The story was really well-crafted. ‬

‪I have loved Robyn as a character, or I did up until book four, but felt that the series had already started to become a bit stale. Not only that but I felt that there were too many similarities with other crime series and Carol wasn’t doing a good enough job making this series unique. Unfortunately, the same can be said of this book. We have a bolshy female detective who goes against her superiors, she is in a will she won’t she situation with one of her colleagues and she spends the book fending off the local news hungry journalist. It’s all a little bit cliched at times and I could have been reading a story from any number of crime writers. Unfortunately one character who does stand out, her PI cousin Ross, is absent for the majority of the story. What I will say is that I really liked the journalist in this story, but again I felt like I was walking down a path I’ve been down in countless other crime novels. ‬

‪Also for those who are up to date with this series (or who read my rather scathing review of The Silent Children), the mystery of whether or not Robyn’s husband Davies is alive or not continues here. And once again we are left on another cliffhanger waiting to see just whether he is alive or not. Again it was a little frustrating. Peter James dragged the Sandy saga out for a decade, how long is Carol Wyer going to do it here? Either let Robyn move on with her life or show us where Davies is. I’ve got visions of reading the next five books and seeing Robyn finally getting together with Shearer, walking down the aisle to marry him only for Davies to finally burst in and go sorry to keep everyone waiting for ten books but yes I’m alive. Hopefully book six puts this ‘mystery’ to bed once and for all.

I read this book immediately after finishing Book 4 in the series . This again for me was just an ok read . The first 3 books in the series i absolutely loved but to me Book 4 and 5 weren’t up to the same standard. This has a great storyline and I love the way Ms Wyer makes it very difficult to guess who the culprit is . Maybe I’ve been reading very similar books and feel that I’ve come across this type of story before. 3.5 star read for me

Three murders in a small town in almost as many days would be unusual but DI Robyn Carter has three particularly cruel and gruesome deaths on her patch to deal with. They are pretty obviously linked but with many in the town unwilling to disclose what could be vital information Robyn is getting no where fast and soon begins to realise this could be the case to break her career.

This is another clever and page turning mystery from Carol Wyer. Apart from it been a great story it's been really well executed. When the reveal comes it makes perfect sense why and how the crimes were committed, the clues were there for the reader to solve but not in such a way that they had massive red arrows pointing them out. Equally their not so implicit that you need to be the love child of Miss Marple and Colombo to work it out!

Highly enjoyable but sadly it seems to be pointing to a winding down of this series. Understandable if that is the case but I'm rather sad if this is the beginning of the end.

What would you do for the ones you love? This book explores that. Sometimes you have no idea how far you would go.

I would say this series keeps getting better but since I've begun reading 3 books ago, I've given each one 5 stars. That's how great these books are. I love Robyn and her team of investigators. They are skilled and characters that are well fleshed out. In each one, we get to know more about Robyn. Which dangles little snippets of her personal life that keep you wanting to know more. As for the investigation, they are also exemplary. Right away we witness the murder of a young man that is gruesome. Robyn has her hands full when another murder is committed within a day of the first. With no idea as to why or who is doing this, the team is kept busy until the very last chapter. These are well thought out and you'll be kept on the edge of your seat trying to figure it out. Carol Wyer is great at keeping you guessing. Love these books so I hope she keeps writing them!

A thoroughly enjoyable chiller of a thriller. Just the kind on twisty turny read that I love. Thank you Carol, I'm eagerly awaiting the next one!

The Robyn Carter series is one of my favorites. The stories are complex and interesting, while not being too overwhelming or confusing. The mysteries are gory and creepy, but just the right amount. And that ending. Whoa.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

When the team is assigned a grisly murder case to solve, they dive in but can’t find anyone with any reason to want the victim dead. Then more bodies show up and things get even more complex as there aren’t any concrete connections between the victims that could have lead to the murders. Meanwhile, Robyn is beginning to move on from her fiance’s murder two years prior, but then the past seems to catch up with her in a big way. Can she solve the case and deal with her own personal demons?

I love the characters on Robyn’s team: Mitz, David, Annie, Ross, etc. They’re all super fun and can make you laugh and cry in the same chapter - I’m definitely invested in them.

The mystery is also a really interesting main storyline, which has a great conclusion I didn’t see coming- and proves that no character is truly safe in this series, which makes things exciting. The flashbacks which show how the killer got to this point are also very harrowing and make things even more complex. But it all worked out satisfactorily in the end.

I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes a good mystery/thriller. This book does have some personal storylines that continue from previous novels, but it can be read as a standalone.

Highly recommended.

A body is found where a scarecrow used to hang - it’s a young man who should have been staying with his friend. Robyn Carter and her team get the case and struggle to find a motive for his death. Other murders follow and the team are frustrated with the lack of leads in the case. Great read from start to finish.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Carol Wyer for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

I want to first start off saying Carol and her books featuring Robyn are on my top list of favourites. I have read every single one of them. But for some reason, this book was much slower than her previous ones. Two young lads are murdered in a particularly gruesome way featuring some elements of religion. A doctor is also then murdered in a similar way. Robyn and her team are trying to work out what the connection is. Through the book its very slow but the last couple of chapters are typical Carol's writing. fast-paced and exciting. So to sum up, not the best one I have read but I would definitely read another one in the series.

Since getting into the Robyn Carter series I've always looked forward to the next one being released eager to continue the character background stories while having an exciting crime to puzzle my way through.
I started this book last month and then life got in the way a bit so I found it hard to give it my full attention, thankfully things settled and I recently got chance to re start and haven't put it down since. Once I got re started I quickly settled back to the team member characters and enjoyed picking up characters where they'd be left off in the previous books. In addition to the characters in the police team I was quickly introduced to new characters tied up in the grizzly crime scenes that were gruesome and descriptive to a level that definately brought the crime scenes to life through this mystery. I had various ideas as to the murderer and much as always was completely wrong until the point where I was meant to know who was guilty...Carol has a knack for leading me up the garden path when it comes to her murderers.
Still scope for more stories to come from this team but I hear that a new detective series is next out from this author and look forward to meeting a new police team in the near future

Just when I think Wyer can’t top herself, she proves me wrong again! This novel is drop dead exciting and that ending was SHOCKING!

I think I say this every time I write a blog for Carol, but if you have yet to pick up the DI Robyn Carter series, I suggest you do it today! Her writing is full of suspense, crime, passion and cliff hangers. It’s everything I want and need in a story. I read this novel as a buddy read with my bestie Megan over at Coffee By the Novel. This read took us a little while to get through due to our own personal issues NOT due to the book itself.

I was waiting for this novel to give me ALL the answers from thee extremely huge cliff hanger I was left with in The Silent Children and I am still not any closer to knowing the big “event” than I did in the last book. I need to know what happened to Davies!!!

The Chosen Ones was perfectly written to keep readers on their toes by second guessing characters, feeling heartbroken for characters and for almost making them want to cry (or maybe that was just me!). Wyer is the master when it comes to creating characters. Inside the pages of this novel, she creates her villain so readers can identify their pain. I related to this villain and felt extremely sorry for this person until the end that is. I love that she made this character a real human being rather than some psycho killer who had past issues.

From the beginning, when I picked up Little Lost Girl, Wyer had sunk her claws into me and I’m so glad that this series is not finished yet because I’m not ready for her or DI Carter to let me go just yet.!

Don’t forget to look for her new novel coming soon: The Birthday releasing September 27, 2018.

This is the 5th book in the Detective Robyn Carter series and was a great read. I had not read the other books in this series, but found that I was not missing anything from the plot due to this. I am definitely going to go back and read the other books in this series because I really enjoyed this one!

The Chosen Ones is the 5th book in the DI Robyn Carter series. I just finished [book:The Silent Children|36266645] so I was eager to continue the series. I have to say I was a little disappointed with this one. I liked it well enough but it was a bit slow for me and the plot was just ok. And enough with the whole Davies tease. Either tell us whether he is dead or alive and lets move on.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of Carol Wyer's "The Chosen Ones" in exchange of an honest review.

Another great one by Carol Wyer. Love Robin and her uncle and loved the focus on the secondary characters as well. The mystery didn't start out so interesting but as soon as I kept on reading, it grew on me. I love how the author keeps me completely engaged and the cases are not extraordinary but common cases that progressively get more complicated!

This is the fifth book in the Robyn Carter series . I had read the previous book last year, so i was happy that i was approved for this too. So the book starts off with a grisly murder in a corn field . Jordan was murdered and left hanging in a corn field, his corpse was pecked by crows. This incident is followed by more murders and Robyn is not able to find any clue to the murderer.
I enjoyed the book and though i did suspect the murderer, couldnt understand the motive behind the murder

DI Robyn Carter is back with her team with a new murder and a new twist in her personal investigation about her dead husband.

The book travels the twists and turns as author Carol Wyer’s generally does. The forensics are tight and extensive. The plot is well thought of and unexpected.

Robyn Carter as the main lead goes through it with a vengeance as this time there is attack from the press too. Her personal relationships are also shown which made her a complete character.

My review is a bit lacklustre because this time Robyn did not investigate someone who was right in front of her eyes. She allowed emotions to sway her when there was a serial killer on the loose.

And this part is all me – I couldn’t see this killer doing the killing in such an elaborate manner, well planned, with the corpses killed as per some old photographs from the Bible.

The killer didn’t appear that intelligent or well read. There is only obsession. But I suppose this is fiction, so anything is possible. I also found the story different from the blurb in some ways.
