I received a copy of this book via NetGally in exchange of an honest review.

This book was originally released as a 60 pages long short story but the author decided to make it a full length novel. I enjoyed it but the story just wasn’t my favorite. Personally I think there is a really strong line between the original 60 pages and the rest of the book. First of all, although I think Brenda Rothert has a really great writing style, she wrote some of my fave sport romances, still in this story you can feel that especially the beginning of the book is kinda rushed to oblige a certain pattern. The whole getting together within a day after a half an hour conversation when both of the characters supposed to be on the shier, more reserved side was a bit off-putting for me. However, after the initial connection forms between them the story starts to flow so much more smoothly. Overall, the book is a sweet romance, a light read despite having quite a bit of drama in it. Thanks to the author style, despite having plenty of drama in the storyline, the whole thing is low angst and so subtle that it doesn’t overwhelm the book. The characters handled their problems in such a sophisticated.

Both of the characters have been dealt a few bad hands in their life but both of them came out on the winning side. This doesn’t mean that they also came out unscathed. Carson is an army veteran, a repair man with a shitty family and an unfortunate past when it come to relationships. Not only has he some bad experience but also his scars from war also make him cautious to start anything with a beautiful soul like Joss.
Joss is a doctor who just recently went through a divorce and she still couldn’t wrap her head around it so she decided to bury herself in work. But then she meets Carson and sparks fly and the attraction is instant.
I liked their easy relationship but they still had plenty of mountains to climb before settling on. They were cute together.

This book was a quick and light read I liked it but couldn’t give it more stars because I require something more (drama and emotion wise) in my favorite reads. Still a great story from the author.

Great book with great characters. They are real, honest, vulnerable and the reader wants them to make it to the end.

I will give this book a 4 star, it is easy to read through. Easily understand, it’s an emotional airplane, it’s not quick and hurries like the roller coaster. Sex scene not too bad, although the story ain’t really about the sex they have so it’s quite entertaining to read with. Recommend to people who’ve been hurt by their Ex. There are 2 covers for this book, the one on the right looks better to me.

Joss is an OB doctor at Tulane Hospital. Her ex husband is an ER doctor working at the same hospital and the woman he messed around with, married and got pregnant is a nurse there also. Joss has been the talk of the hospital for awhile. She is also working on a project, and is using a room on the OB floor with no air conditioning or windows. She has individuals coming in the next day and needs air conditioning so she calls maintenance.

Carson is ex military and working in maintenance at the hospital. He is very good looking, but also quiet and uncomfortable around many people. He goes to help Joss with the air conditioning and catches her looking at her reflection and holding up her boobs! She feels unattractive and is trying to see what others see when they look at her. Joss is embarrassed when Carson catches her and starts taking about how unattractive she is with Carson ignoring the comment and asking what she needs from maintenance. They do end up talking to each other later and going out to breakfast.

The book was so good, and I loved Joss and Carson together. Joss’s ex-husband was such a jerk, I wanted someone to put him in his place. The rumors that went around that hospital were like fire. I loved when Joss went down to ER to tell her ex off and made sure there were plenty of people that could hear what she was saying. There were sure some people who thought they were better than Carson since he “was only a mechanic!” I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

Such a good book! I love books about military vets, and this one was great! I also loved Joss. She felt real, which I love.

This book manages something that seems to me quite unusual: the main characters are normal, reasonable adults who behave in a normal, reasonable way when confronted with adversity in their relationship. There were so many points when the author could have gone for the quick melodrama to create a conflict for a plot device and mercifully did not. She crafted a story that has lovely, multi-facetted characters who are interesting without giving into high drama.
Joss and Carson navigate the unavoidable obstacles that arise in a relationship where she is a physician at a university medical center and he is a veteran who works in the hospital's mechanical department. Both have issues from their past. But wait! Instead of allowing those to wreck their budding relationship they.....deal with them! How refreshing! Carson seeks counseling on his own for problems related to his service, father, and past relationships. Joss insures Carson knows she has no issue with his financial status or his job. They each determine that their relationship is worth adjusting their expectations.
When I finished this book I wanted to applaud - finally a book about people who were normal, responsible, a little imperfect, and interesting. Yay!

Joss is a doctor whose life has been turned upside down by her ex-husband.. He just didnt cheat on her when they were married, but just took away the confidence she had in her!!
While she's trying her best to get over, she meets up with the mechanic person in her hospital - Carson.
Carson is an ex-military who served overseas. He has his own set of nightmares and issues..
When Carson and Joss meet, there is an immediate connection they feel and they fall easily in love with each other..
However, their love is tested and they both try to overcome the obstacles by fighting out against their fears and insecurities...
Loved both Joss and Carson and they way their characters developed in this story..
A simple, yet sweet romance

I absolutely loved this story about Jos and Carson! After being completely screwed over by her ex-husband and having to deal with both him and his new love at the hospital where she worked, Jos had been put through the ringer. I loved the instant chemistry between her and Carson and also loved that she didn't care about her being a doctor and him being the maintenance guy at the hospital. Although Carson struggled with their career and financial differences, I loved the way these two were just drawn to one another like magnets. I absolutely loved everything about this book!

Wow what a great book. Loved the characters and their chemistry. They really communicated with each other, which is unheard of in most books that I have read so far. Very well written and totally enjoyable read.
Well done!

This book was fun to read. The characters were interesting. Each character was their own person with individual emotions. It was nice to see that because sometimes the two people in a relationship seem to be halves of a whole.
Joss was insecure and always doubting herself. Something that felt really relatable.
Carson was a strong, but damaged man. His character development was one of the best parts of this story.
My problem with this book was there seemed to be no real plot. Or rather there was and it was resolved before the halfway point. After that, it felt like the story was just happening to happen. It was completely character driven. That is not a bad thing, but it made me lose my interest.
Every event that happened after the initial plot was predictable. I enjoyed reading for the characters and it read relatively fast, but I kept waiting for something critical to happen. Something to make all the fun scenes between Joss and Carson more important. I don't think it ever got there.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Absolutely loved this story!
Joss is a doctor who is recently divorced from a fellow doctor in the same hospital and Carson is a Mechanical maintenance person who has recently got out of the military. Both work on third shift. Carson has seen Joss around before and thought she was beautiful.
They meet and it is instant attraction. Love at first sight in my opinion. Carson didn't think he would ever love again, but he is proven wrong. Joss didn't think she was beautiful anymore after her ex.
I'm glad these two were able to beat there demons and get together. At one point, I thought they might not be together, but love persevered. Ahhh! Such a sweet story!
This does not appear to be a part of a series.

I am a fan of this author, but this one, as least for me, wasn't carved in reality. The heroine was too forgiving (I know that shouldn't be a bad thing). Always nice to have the HEA, but the whole conflict/resolution structure was forced and all too quick.

This was such a sweet book! I loved the very real struggles that Joss and Carson faced. I enjoyed their ups and downs and how they managed their stress as a new couple. Such a fun, sex read.

A exquisite whirlwind romance that has you blushing as you turn the pages.

Jocelyn has went thru the worst kind of heartache when her husband cheated on her with a co worker, the worst part is they work at the same hospital and the girl he cheated with is a nurse there and everyone knew about it, but her. She puts on a smile and cant help but be the bigger person and move on. I absolutely loved her personality she was one of those characters you wanna be just because she is not only beautiful but has the best personality.
Carson he was in the service and is working at the hospital Jocelyn works at they cross paths and sparks fly. Carson has a broken heart after his ex fiancé did him dirty and he isn't easy to crack open, but when he sees Jocelyn he cant help but feel the heat.
A wonderful book and I loved how they fell in love and the troubles they had to go thru especially how Carson handled Jocelyns ex husband like any man should to protect what is his!

3.5 stars.
This is a great romance with an unusual couple, a female doctor and an electrician/handyman. I really liked how the author handled the way Carson and Joss bond despite their different backgrounds. The hot and impassive maintenance guy, a solitary veteran haunted by memories of war, is a great hero. Carson’s clumsiness with feelings, his fears, insecurities and quiet strength make him a compelling and riveting character to read. Joss is a hardworking and kind obstetrician (great depiction of the profession!), sometimes too kind, perhaps.
I loved the flirting phase, the sensual, intimate and emotional moments, the honesty between Carson and Joss. I skipped most of the sex scenes, found them a bit repetitive.

4 stars.
Just to avoid any confusion I want to start this review by saying that I believe this author originally published this as a short story of approx. 60 pages but I in fact read a full length novel of 195 pages.
Whether she just expanded on the original story or revised it altogether I really couldn't say.
What I can say is that I really enjoyed this story and the easy, relaxed style of writing this author has. I breezed through this tender, sweet romance. I really adored both these characters- Joss and Carson.
They certainly deserved a HEA.
My first book by Brenda Rothert and I look forward to reading more, especially if they are like this one.

I have to say that I really admired how Dr. Jocelyn Drake handled herself. Her husband leaves her for a younger women and on top of that they all work in the same hospital. Joss just wants to do her job and keep doing her research, so she isn’t going to leave her job because she has to see her ex-husband canoodling with his new girlfriend in the halls, she won’t give them that satisfaction.
Lucky for her, in walks in Carson Stephen, who also works at Tulane Medical Center. After some awkward but funny flirting, Joss and Carson embark in a new relationship. Their past soon starts causing trouble in their relationship. Carson let some insecurities drive a wedge between them but they manage to get things back on track. I also liked how Joss handled Amanda, she was attempting to be civil and tried to keep things civil even when Amanda is being rude.
It was a really sweet and captivating read. I liked the flow of the story and the dual points of view.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC provided by Netgalley. My review is my honest opinion about this book.

Carson sometimes has to clear things up with his woman, “my ***k’s intimidating?” I said, surprised. “You mean ’cause it’s so hard?” It was straight as an arrow and hard as h*** since..." Carson is always happy his woman approves of his choices, “if the volume of your moans a few days ago was any indication, what you really love is the way my face feels on your inner thighs when I haven’t shaved.” Joss sometimes takes her man by surprise, "...She scrambled off my lap and pulled the sweats and her panties off in one fluid motion. “Oh h***, Joss.” I tore my eyes away from her body to make sure all the blinds were closed. Thank eff they were..." I liked this book, Joss and Carson were one hot couple.

I really liked this book.
Joss is an OB at Tulane Medical Center. She is trying to put her life back together after her doctor husband cheated on her with a nurse and then divorced her. The whole hospital seems to know and she has had to deal with the humiliation of that as well.

Carson is a former Army soldier. He is a loner andhas trouble dealing with the scars from his childhood as well as the horrors he saw as a soldier. He is working as a maintenance man at the hospital when he gets a call about air conditioning. When he arrives, he sees that it is Joss, who he has been admiring from afar.

The story follows them as they build a relationship while dealing with the drama that Joss' ex and "Nurse Nips" cause them. Couple that with Carson's struggles dealing with his past.

Can true love conquer all of their demons and allow them to find their happily ever after? This is a great story of two compassionate people who deserve to be together.
I was given an advance copy of this book. These are my honest opinions.

What a sweet, easy read! I believe this is a longer version of a novella that Rothert wrote a while back (which I hadn't read), and I think it was a good choice to extend it beyond the first part.

Brenda Rothert's books have a cozy, lived-in feel to them. I find myself trusting the writing right away, and it's not difficult to simply sink into the story. She's very good at creating well-rounded characters, and providing just enough atmospheric details to make you feel like you're in a real place, without getting bogged down in minutiae.

The hero of the story was great--so sexy!--and I liked the heroine a lot too. Both of them were just good people who deserved a break. I normally don't like these kind of insta-love books, but with this author, I'll read whatever she wants me to. :)

The conflict was a little thin for me, as most of it was internal--there wasn't a whole lot of external plot going on. So, it wasn't my favorite of Rothert's books but I definitely enjoyed it. I would recommend this book to any romance fan; it's pure comfort reading, and sure to make you feel better if you're feeling down.
