I've never known so much about gambling until this book. Cole really did her research on poker, shuffling, casinos and dealers. Very impressive. The casino conducting business as a money launder might also be involved in human trafficking. The Eagle Security firm, Cabe specifically, works with the FBI, Agent Amy, to find missing women and discover how the casino is laundering money. Everything I enjoy about a suspenseful romance was here: the intensity, the zing, the feisty conversation, the action. Excellent storytelling. I'm a fan of Cole and was pleased to get an early copy, my review was written voluntarily.

I am new to Scarlett Cole and did not read the first two books in the series. The good news is that I enjoyed Deep Cover and the better news is that I seldom felt lost by starting with book three. There was mention of events from the first books providing perspective but not so much to annoy the reader.

I love that Amy is strong, smart and thoroughly professional. She’s perfectly capable of holding her own in a male-dominated world end even leading a team of male peers. Finding herself working with Cabe doesn’t through her off her professional game. I also loved that she’s a professional level poker player. What a cool talent for a young woman.

Cabe is equally capable at his job but so damaged personally. He’s attracted to Amy during their brief first meeting and, I won’t spoil it by telling you how that goes, but he’s got to deal with a lot before he can proceed with Amy. He fights his desire and ultimately fails but finds it’s time to move on and let Amy in.

In typical romance fashion, the two can’t delay acting on their attraction until they’re no longer working on the same case. This I found unprofessional but not out of the realm of possibility.
I like the characters. The writing was very good and the story well-paced. I always enjoy a suspense element so this book was quite enjoyable.

I didn’t like Deep Cover when I started reading it. But, the more I read Deep Cover, the more I realized that I judged the book by the first chapter. This book is so much more than Amy and Cabe’s relationship. I enjoyed the plotline about the missing girls. I enjoyed reading about Amy’s time undercover as a card dealer at a casino. I enjoyed how I was kept on the edge of my seat when Amy went off the grid.

Deep Cover is not a stand-alone book. You do need to read the first two books of the Love Over Duty series to understand some of the backstories. The author did a great job of doing catch up in the first couple of chapters. I would recommend reading the first two books before this one.

The romance between Amy and Cade was slow-moving. I felt that the romance came after the sex, as weird as that sounds. While Amy was sexually attracted to Cade, I didn’t get any sign of a romance between them. Because Cade was holding back. It wasn’t until after Cade went to Jess’s grave that I felt the romance came into the book.

Speaking of sex, Amy and Cade had red-hot sex. Sizzling sex. Steaming up the screen of my Kindle sex. I loved it because Amy was a good sexual match for Cade.

The storyline involving the missing girls was fantastic. I enjoyed reading about Amy going undercover at the casino. I also enjoyed reading about it on Cade’s end. How he was trying to get into the inner circle of Popov through gambling. I loved it when Woods started grooming Amy to go on the boat. I knew that something was going to happen. When stuff went down, it went down exactly how I thought it was going to happen.

I did have an issue with how Cade treated Amy after they started sleeping together. He went hot and cold with her. I didn’t blame her for getting mad. If I were her, I know that I would have smacked him upside the head. Thankfully Six verbally did that to him. Made Cade see that treating Amy the way he did was not cool.

The end of the book was action packed. From the moment that Amy was on that boat, I didn’t expect it to be anything but. I loved how Cade came through for her. I also loved the epilogue. I might have cried a teeny bit.

What I liked about Deep Cover:

A) The plotline with the missing girls

B) Amy being undercover

C) The suspense!!!

What I disliked about Deep Cover:

A) Not a stand-alone book

B) Slow moving romance

C) How Cade treated Amy after they started sleeping together

I would give Deep Cover an Adult rating. There is explicit sex. There is language. There is violence. I would recommend that no one under the age of 21 read this book.

I would recommend Deep Cover to family and friends. I would also reread this book.

I would like to thank St. Martin’s Paperbacks, St. Martin’s Press, and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review Deep Cover.

All opinions stated in this review of Deep Cover are mine.

Deep cover was incredible mix - thriller meets romance. I love these kinds of books..they have you sit on needles the whole time and still be afraid of what happens next. For those who loves to chase criminals, it's definitely the right read.
The plot deals with more criminal cases entwined in one another. Human trafficking and money laundering. What an brilliant idea to put these both together and the best? The growing love.

Former SEAL, owner of security agency, who is lost in the feelings and sadness of his past, meets FBI agent on a mission. Finally she helps him to wake up from his funk and althoug they can't be more than colleagues while on mission, he sees the very light at the end of a tunnel. He sees he can try and maybe love again.

She wants to habe the same love her parents once shared. The chemistry between the two of them is totally spinning out of control. Le sigh!

So what can I add more? Absolutely not a thing.
Maybe just say, it was another exceptionally well written story from Scarlett Cole's pen and could be read as standalone.
I truly loved every second.

4 stars!

Suspenseful and full of chemistry, this is an exciting read with a great romance, and I loved it!

The third and final book in the Love Over Duty series, this is the story of Cabe Moss, the last of three friends featured in this series. Cabe and his two best friends grew up together, were SEALs together, and then started Eagle Security, leading a team of badasses on all sorts of badass missions. Cabe has watched his two buddies fall in love and find their HEAs, which brings home to him all that he is missing out on. It’s been two years since his fiancé was killed while she was serving overseas, and though he still grieves her and knows he’ll love her forever, he’s beginning to feel like he wants the kind of happiness that his friends have found.

Amy Harris is a strong and determined FBI agent. She left her last job after being sexually harassed by a superior, and then enduring taunts and gossip. Her fresh start in San Diego sees her continuing an investigation that is very close to her heart – those of women going missing. The case of the missing women appears to be tied in with a money laundering scheme, and all evidence points to a local casino. In a joint effort, the CIA, FBI, Police Department and Eagle Security (due to their previous encounters with the bad guys) team up to investigate, with Cabe and Amy being the ones chosen to go undercover in the casino to figure out what’s going on.

From the very beginning, sparks fly between Cabe and Amy. Their attraction is a palpable thing, but there is so much standing in their way.

“There are reasons, really good fucking reasons, why you and I should keep our distance. There is shit you don’t know about me, about my past. And there’s this case. And there’s everything that happened to you in Atlanta. It feels like a lot. And yeah, I get it feels insurmountable, because I find myself wondering why the hell I’m even considering you and me.”
He took a moment and looked out of the window, up toward the sky.
“But?”
“But doesn’t it feel worth it, Ames?” he asked quietly.

I love the way that, despite their personal battles, they are both so open about what is between them. They admit what they’re feeling and how it’s impacting their work, they talk about all of the possibilities, and I just loved the functionality of it all! And of course their chemistry is off the charts. Their physical attraction is only the beginning of what begins to brew between them as they work together and get to know each other, and real feelings develop, making everything so much more intense until it hits the point where neither of them can hold back any further.

“It’s so hard to resist this. I don’t know how to stop it any more than you do.”

It’s a beautifully developing love story that is seriously hot, and though it has its ups and downs, it’s managed well. Amy and Cabe are very mature, sensible and realistic about everything, they share a mutual respect for each other both as colleagues and as partners, and I loved watching them work through their feelings as they openly accept what they are starting to become to each other – even in their difficult situation.

Because in the middle of it all is the drama of their case. It’s quite involved and there is a lot of detail and book-time dedicated to the mystery/suspense part of the story. There are links with the crime stories in the previous books, which are cleverly intertwined. It’s well-written and kept my interest, and ties in really well with the romance as you can see the two different parts of Amy and Cabe’s relationship developing side by side.

Right now, she needed the SEAL, not the lover, no matter how willing he was to do both.

I really enjoyed this book. It was well paced and well-written with just the right balance of action and emotion. I loved Cabe and Amy as characters, and loved watching everything happen between them.

This was a great read and a gorgeous romance – 4 stars.

Right up front you know this is going to be about Cabe and Amy and that things will get steamy! This is a fast paced romance between two very strong characters who are trying to right wrongs, in this case with lots of bad guys. Cabe is still hurting from the death of his fiancé (I did not read the earlier books but Cole gives enough info so you'll understand what happened). Amy wasn't planning on romance either. Ah. There are bad guys, there's a conspiracy, but best of all, there's a nice love story. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This book was a DNF for me. Which is unfortunate because I really enjoyed the first two books and was looking forward to this one. I always seem to enjoy the wounded soldier stories because you get to see them built back up. While this one was on the way to it I just couldn't find myself invested in this story.

Can hit on Amy only to ditch her. Then *omg!* they end up working together. -_-

Not only is that an obvious occurrence but why does he become so over protective so quickly when he doesn't want to jump into this thing with her?
Again.... A DNF and that all happens quickly. I will definitely try to go back and finish this but at this time I just can't. I'm in a slump now.

Scarlett Cole, where have you been all my <i>reading</i> life?

Let me start by saying I don't consider this a romance novel at all. It's not about love and pink fluffy things. Yes, the main characters are attracted to one another and they kiss, have sex and <spoiler>live happily ever after</spoiler>, but the story isn't about them precisely.

<b>Deep Cover is one of the most exciting, pulse-pounding stories I ever read.</b> If you're a fan on action thrillers, then you should definitely <b>read this book</b>.
If you want to learn about counting cards at Blackjack, or how to snap the cable ties from around your wrists if you found yourself bound, <b>read this book</b>.
If you're curious how an FBI agent, who goes undercover in a casino, and a former SEAL Navy, along with the CIA and all the other three-letter agencies work together to bring down a money laundering and women trafficking operations, <b>read this book</b>.

The plot is structured, the characters are strong and smart and there's so much action, that you won't be able do breathe or put the book down. This is far away from my usual readings and it's definitely not a <b>pink fairytale</b>, but I enjoyed it immensely.

<i>"ARC provided through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review."</i>

It would be an absolute honor to have you as my guest on my blog too. Stop by anytime you want :)

After an awkward first meeting a at a bar, Cabe and Amy are surprised to find themselves on the same taskforce. Cabe’s private security company, the FBI, CIA and a few other law enforcement agencies work together to take down a money laundering and human trafficking ring. Having practically grown up in casinos, Amy goes undercover for the FBI as a dealer in a casino and Cabe's team provides backup. Cabe is doing his best to live his life after the death of his fiancée two years ago and he’s not sure what to do with his growing feelings for Amy, but he's determined to keep his mind on the job and keep Amy safe.

This author is new to me, so when I was invited by St. Martin’s Press to read an early copy, I decided to check out her work. The book was the slightest bit slow for me at the very beginning but very quickly picked up. From there on out, it had me glued to the page as it took me on a complex, intense, exciting ride. I appreciated the multi-layered, accomplished, intelligent main characters and loved watching their romance unfold in the midst of a very involved plot. I really enjoyed this fast paced, invigorating, fascinating storyline with its surprising twists and turns and will definitely be reading more from this author.

An unexpected second chance after heartbreak…

This is the third book in the Love Over duty series that can be read as a stand-alone.

It’s been two years since Ex-Navy SEAL Cabe Moss lost his fiancé to an IED in Afghanistan. On the anniversary of her birthday, while at a bar, he meets an intriguing, attractive blonde he inadvertently flirts with, then is guilt-ridden to the memories of what he’d lost and disappeared on the woman. Now a civilian and co-owner of Eagle Securities with his best friends they are pulled in on a case of suspected money laundering with many of the alphabet agencies, and the case meshes with one of their own investigations. He’s surprised to find that the FBI agent they will be working with is the woman he walked away from with no explanation.

FBI Agent Amy Murray transferred to the San Diego office from Atlanta last month to start her career anew after being sexually harassed by a superior for months. She’s currently working a case of missing women in the area that hits close to home, her mother was taken when she was ten years old and never found. She’s assigned to go undercover at a casino due to her unique qualifications, as the daughter of a renowned poker champion she was raised in the casino life. She remembers the man who walked away from her at the bar and now that they will be working together everything must remain professional, her reputation is at stake after the problem in Atlanta.

Two strong individuals with serious chemistry and personal baggage join forces in an engaging story. Put together an FBI agent needing to protect her reputation and an ex-military security consultant who lost the woman he deeply loved to a dangerous profession and you have lots of complications. Though it shouldn’t matter to the job that there is such palpable chemistry between them it can and does interfere, it’s how they deal with their issues that made this a good story amid a suspenseful plot.

Life gave Cabe an unexpected second chance at love after losing the future he’d envisioned with Jess but he has to allow himself to reach for it. He cannot yet conceive of another relationship and is thrown by the depth of the attraction he feels for Amy even after two years toned down the heartbreak. Amy is a woman with a personal focus after the way she lost her mother and her career is the means to an end of helping women in similar situations. She doesn’t need the distraction that Cabe represents if she is to keep her reputation intact but he’s a man hard to resist. With this story, all three partners in Eagle Securities have found the women that complete them.

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.

Cabe is an ex-Navy SEAL, determined to never open his heart again, after the death of his fiancé. He is then sent on assignment with an FBI agent named Amy. Brilliant and determined, Amy has a past of her own that she fights to live with every day. When these two are put together on an op, the sexual tension is off the charts. Hard for both of them to deal with but, they're both professionals, right?
This story was a constantly action packed, sometimes terrifying, roller-coaster ride that you don't want to put down because, something is DEFINITELY going to happen on the next page!!!!
A perfect read for a quiet weekend because, believe me, you will not want to stop reading this book!!!!

***4 Stars***

I must say that if this is the last book in the series, that I’m at a 50/50 split on really liking how everything was wrapped up to being a little sad because there are a few secondary characters that I’d really like to know more about. But in the end, this was a fun and easy read for me that, had life allowed, I would have finished quite quickly, but since that wasn’t an option I will say that when I could steal a few moments to myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it until the very last page.

I loved Cabe. Honest, loyal and sweet but he’s constructed titanium walls around his heart. I empathized with him, I did, because that kind of loss is something that one never gets over, but I also wanted to reach out and tear those walls down because he was such a good guy that he deserved to give himself a second chance to find love.

Amy was pretty damn amazing. Sassy, snarky, determined and highly intelligent. I mean this woman was a force. And then you add in her background ~ the good, the heartbreaking and the unique ~ little facts that make her who she is and she’s kind of everything wrapped up in a nice little package.

For all of the issues Amy and Cabe had to deal with, both personal and professional, I really liked how everything played out with their relationship. There were the ups and downs and a couple of bad choices tossed into the mix, but it was the fact that they actually communicated like mature adults through most of it that had me rooting for them. They were honest, or at least as honest as they could be depending on where they were at in their heads, and it made everything work for me. The smexy was definitely smexy, I loved their bantering and how much they simply respected the other on every level and where they ended up at the end of the book was perfect for them.

I’m still crossing my toes that this isn’t the last time we’ll hear about these characters, because there are definitely a few that I’d love to know more about, Harley, Lite and Buddha to be exact, but if this is a true farewell then I have to say it was done very well. We got to spend time with everyone and there was a nice little secondary storyline woven into the mix that definitely balanced the tension out with humor and heart and helped to tie up things quite nicely for all of these characters.

Fairly light romantic thriller. Interesting well rounded characters with their own back stories. Enjoyable read.

And came to an end another great series of author Scarlett Cole. Deep Cover comes to tell the story of Cabe, a character loved and lost years ago, and a character that I wanted to get to know your story. This book didn't come just to close the series Love over Duty with a golden key, but also brought a second chance to Cabe.

Cabe is the owner of Eagle Securities along with Six and Mac and had to view their own friends find happiness. Now they are back in action for trying to overthrow the Russian syndicate, only for this operation to succeed they will have to work by cooperating with the FBI, and that's where the agent Amy enters. She just moved into town and works to find missing women. Its mission is to work undercover at the casino so she can infiltrate this organization that both have their own motivations and interests to overthrow. What neither of them imagined was starting to develop feelings for each other, creating a dilemma: Duty x love, or is it that the two may have both.

I really enjoyed this book. The relationship between Fit and Amy was well developed and in books that a character has ever loved and missed always get scared as the topic will be worked out to keep from getting that feeling of second choice. But I think the author was careful and it didn't happen thankfully. The relationship between have chemistry and they worked very well.

This book, as well as the rest of this series brings a perfect blend of romance, suspense and action and this book came to bring a end of cycle for all these characters.

Spectacular! Over the top way to close out this series! I love the writings of Scarlett Cole and this is just another masterpiece to add to her collection! This story draws you in and makes your heart rate speed up chapter after chapter next thing you know the book is over. Great characters who have so much on the line in this book. It is really easy root for Cabe and Amy to find each other and find love. These two are just meant to each other! Great to see some of the characters from previous books included in Deep Cover! I might have shed a tear or two so be ready.

ARC received for review

Great conclusion. It made me cry...twice. Cabe and Amy were great together. They worked well together and were really hot. Loved seeing Six and Mac again, plus their ladies. Bad guy from previous books finally gets what's coming to him. There are lots of other members of their teams who could get books, but we don't really get to know them.

Although part of a series, this can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

Cable Moss is an ex Navy seal turned security specialist. Amy Murray is an FBI agent who has a very personal reason for doing the job she does.

Together, with their teams, they are tasked with a dual operation involving suspected money laundering and missing women.

During their individual lives and careers, they have each suffered loss and trauma so are naturally reluctant to explore a budding relationship. However, as it turns out, their biggest challenge is NOT acting on the instant chemistry they both experience.

The story of Amy and Cabe is at times sad, funny and incredibly HOT!

Amy has family stories that any reader will covet and Cabe will tear your heart in two.

The relationship that Amy has with her father and uncle is only slightly overshadowed by Cabe and his 'brothers' where the dialogue is often what you might expect to hear in a high school locker room.

Despite this their road to HEA is sweet and heartwarming and highly recommended by this Scarlett Cole virgin.

A beautiful story about opening your heart after a great loss and coming face to face with old demons. Great story with very well constructed characters. Just wished the epilogue revealed more of the future, because I love HEA and future glimps...
