Aside from the young Lara Croft & Indiana Jones vibe I got from this book, it read more like a middle grade, rather than a YA book. The first chapter was quite slow and really, if you can't get me after the first chapter, you lose me. This wasn't a hit for me.

I enjoyed reading this book I just never got around to writing a review. I will continue to read works by this author

3 stars. This was just okay. Wasn't great. Wasn't terrible. But wasn't for me. I love the cover and the authors writing style was very readable for me but I just didn't care much whether I finished the book or not.

I finally got around to this one and was sadly disappointed. What sounded like an amazing story was really not at all. It was unbelievable, predictable, and the characters were too bland for my taste. There was no real "life" in this book at all.

This was enjoyable, although I did find a few flaws in it. I think the best part of the novel is the originality. I wasn't sure what exactly to expect from chapter to chapter as M and Ash travel the world seeking answers about the Set cult. M and Ash were good lead characters, although I felt M tried a little too hard to be edgy, which bordered on unlikable. The mythology was intriguing for most of the book, but my interest waned as the story went on. However, I did feel invested in the love/hate relationship between M and Ash. If you like YA with an Indiana Jones feel and strong female characters, then I definitely recommend I Do Not Trust You.

This title is full of intrigue, mystery, danger, and many other things! Lara croft meets Indiana Jones in a mystery novel that is packed full of twists. I am very glad I picked up this fast-paced book, the cover drew me to the book however the writing kept me reading!

I was promised "plot twists, and uneasy, ever-changing alliances", I was promised "a thrilling journey". But what I actually got was... well, bland. I couldn't connect with the characters, instead finding them rather annoying, I found the plot predictable and not surprising at all. The concept, as presented in the blurb, is really cool, but the execution is just not on that level.

I did not finish I Do Not Trust You, and will not be writing a more detailed review than this. It felt much younger than a YA book, and required a bit too much suspension on disbelief.

I've finally made it around to this book. I had received it as an arcs ages ago and wasn't sure how to review, but I think the problem we've fallen into is that so many books follow the same formula, and it's hard not to. But when you pick one up that you feel as if you can predict, it loses some of the magic.

I will say that I did enjoy the characters and the adventures were fun but it got slow, I felt that for what they were doing, for their adventure journey there wasn't enough, like it should have been epic and some areas fell flat. I felt stuck and the book felt stuck as if the author wasn't sure where to take it and then we were in a slump. I felt like we lost sight of what the motivations were and the book got dull.

I couldn’t get into this book. I tried multiple times and it just didn’t grab my attention. I skimmed through hoping something would grab me but nothing ever did.

I Do Not Trust You  is a young adult adventure mystery by Laura J. Burns & Melinda Metz. I was immediately drawn in to this book by the title and the summary. A member of an ancient cult shows up to tell you that the father you thought was dead, isn't? And then sweeps you up in an adventure to find him that takes you all around the world...yes please! And while I did enjoy up enjoying I Do Not Trust You, it didn't blow me away like I was expecting it to. A found a lot of the book to be very slow and kind of hard to get into. The story's pacing did pick up in the second half of the book, but even so this was only an ok read for me.

In I Do Not Trust You we meet our main character, Memphis or M for short. I loved M. She is sassy and independent, and really really smart! I couldn't believe how much M seemed to know...about everything. It was a little odd how well versed she seemed in so many different cultures and their histories. I am a history major and I don't know as much as M seems to about different cultures histories. But I digress. What I loved most about M is her skeptical nature.  So when Ashwin, or Ash for short shows up, M does not trust him. Which I kind of expected from the title of the book, and yes there are a lot of trust issues and skepticism present with M and Ash as they go on their round the world journey to try and track down her dad. I loved the descriptions of the places they visited and the intrigue present in the story surrounding M's father and the ancient society were also interesting, but at times it just didn't feel like enough was going on to capture my attention. The overall story was good, but too slow for my taste. If you are a character driven reader that doesn't mind some slow pacing then I think you will enjoy this story.

I think this book will appeal to readers who enjoy an adventure style mystery that felt like a mix of sleuth story and Indiana Jones mixed with Tomb Raider. There is also a wonderful cast of diverse characters, which I loved! So even though this book was a bit too slow for my liking, I did end up enjoying the overall story.

This is usually not the type of book that I read.
It will keep you hooked, though. One character tells the other that her father is really not dead. This leads them on a trip that will change them both forever!! There is a magic element to the book so I would call this a fantasy, even though the characters seem like ones you would hang out with in real life. I wanted to hang out with “M”!!! If you are into thrillers with a little magic sprinkled in, I highly recommend this book. It was just not particularly what I enjoy reading. Still held my interest, so that says something. I truly believe it was the character development of “M” and Ash that kept me invested in the outcome.

This did not sound like my kind of book that I would enjoy but I thought I would give it a shot. It ended up being more enjoyable than I first thought it would be.

To start with the story to hunt down artifacts. The storyline had so many mythology in it, that i enjoyed reading it. Also it was nicely done. Loved the characters. Specially M she was the best part of the story!
If like mythology archeology this book is for you!

I am beyond grateful that the publisher of I Do Not Trust You contacted me and asked me to review this book and I'm sorry I'm only now getting around to it. Wednesday Books always knows my type of story, what I initially thought would be a thriller, surprised me and was actually an urban fantasy with supernatural elements. I loved how fast paced the story was and the rollercoaster of feelings it took me on ! definitely recommend !

Unfortunately, I struggled to finish this one. The premise was fantastic, but I didn't connect with the characters and found myself not being invested in their journey.

I Do Not Trust You was a great read and i'm really annoyed with myself for taking so long to review it! It’s a YA adventure/action/fantasy about a ridiculously smart archaeology enthusiast who has to team up with a worshipper of the god Horus to save her father and stop the god Set rising again. It’s not as far fetched as it sounds, and the detailed mythology in it really appealed to me. Brilliantly written, fast-paced, with an interesting plot and great characters. What more could you want?

So as I usually say, it is better late than never, and it is especially the case for this review. I read I Do Not Trust You last year, and I never took the time to write my review, but during the holidays, I got time to go back to this book and reread it because the first time I had difficulties to get my head into the story.
This second reading got me to understand more the story. I loved the mythological references, it was culturally enhancing for sure, and I found the whole story fascinating. It reminded me a lot of the movie National Treasure and Benjamin Gates (one of my favorite movies) or even the Tomb Raider games. I loved traveling through different countries to find new artifacts and discover new facts about them; the descriptive passages added a particular ambiance to the story, which I appreciated reading!
The characters formed quite a delightful duo as well, utterly different from each other, and both with varying motives as they embarked on this mysterious quest. However, I still kept my reservations about Ash until the very end.
The downside of this book though, as I said at the beginning, was how long it took at first to get into the story, and then in the middle, some moments felt a bit too long, and they slowed down the plot, which was sad because the general idea of the story was excellent.
Another aspect that I loved about I Do Not Trust You was the depiction of a strong, witty, and independent female character, which brought a good boost to the story.
Overall, I gave this book four stars; I had started with three stars, but I decided against it because it was still an enjoyable read even though it needed a little extra something to be memorable!

Nope, not happening. Not liking the feel of this, right from the start. rereading the synopsis doesn't give me any interest any more either. Guess this one has been on my NG shelf for too long.
