This is one of the best ARCs I have had the opportunity to read and review! This felt like a mix of National Treasure and a classic psychological thriller, with a hint of some sci-fi elements. It was just a refreshingly different novel than what I am used to.

I enjoyed the characters, the variety of environments the story took us too, the plot twists, and the conclusion.

Didn’t realize this would be a fantasy/mythology read. Not my favorite. Couldn’t finish unfortunately but I do recommend if you like a mix of Laura Croft and Indiana Jones.

A solid book for those who like their Tomb Raider and National Treasure. It wasn’t executed as well as I would have liked, but I certainly enjoyed the characters which made it an easier read.

Quick & Dirty: Loved the Mythology and Archeology angle but I had a hard time liking the main characters until about halfway through the book.

The Review:
I Do Not Trust You by Laura J. Burns and Melinda Metz has a cover that I find quite as deceitful as the title. I don’t feel like the cover screams archeology or Egyptian gods. I only say that because I was really surprised by the synopsis. Also, the first time I saw the cover I thought it was flowers, I didn’t notice the fine detail. If you are a fan of the characters Indiana Jones and Laura Croft or the movies National Treasure or The Davinci Code. I love anything that deals with mythology and archaeology so I was really looking forward to reading this book. Unfortunately, I really had a hard time with the characters in the beginning. If this hadn’t been a review book I probably would have skimmed straight to the end just to see what happened. The characters got better at about the halfway point. I did really like the action and mystery, it was really fun to see how the authors incorporated gods of a lot of religions into the journey.

Memphis, otherwise known as M, was told that her father died in a plane crash so when a stranger, Ash, shows up telling her that her father is not dead but a hostage for a radical group that worships the Egyptian god Set. Ash needs M to give him a map that will lead him to the pieces of Set which will in turn bring set back to life to wreak havoc upon the world. M needs Ash to lead her to her father. They both have ulterior motives and they definitely don’t trust each other. They embark on a journey that takes them all over the world to decipher the clues and find the hidden pieces of Set.

I Do Not Trust You is a contemporary novel that turns more and more supernatural as the story plays out. There is quite a bit of action. I was really intrigued by how this story would play out. I don’t know how accurate this novel is with the places that they travel to but they were really interesting to read about. There are a couple places that I definitely want to look up.

I had a few issues with the story at first. I didn’t really like the way Memphis was always referred to as M. The story was told in the third person so at least she wasn’t referring to herself as M but sometimes it felt that way. M was really rude to her “friends” at the beginning of the novel. I know she didn’t want to be in school but I didn’t really care for how she treated these other people. I understood her not getting along with Ash but since she was really hostile with her friends I had a hard time with her attitude.

As for M’s rudeness at the beginning of the novel, she begins to get more likeable later in the novel. She’s lived a tough life and has learned a lot of life lessons. She knows how to take care of herself. She believes in her gut feelings. Ashwin has an awful back story. He tries to be tough because of that but he longs for the familial loyalty that M has with her dad. Ash is a character that I really felt sorry for as he reveals his story.

Overall, I Do Not Trust You is a novel that may not be for everyone. After my initial struggle, I did like the characters better but it did take half the book to get there. If you have an interest in mythology particularly Egyptian then you may want to give this book a try. If you also like archaeology, then you should like when M discusses her childhood.

Thank you for providing a copy of this book for review however I was unable to open the file for this document unfortunately! Apologies.

The main problem is that for it to be an action adventure there needs to be the edge of your seat moments that cause your heart to start beating faster. However, it was definitely lacking the excitement to the adventures and didn't deliver quite the way it should have. I wanted more and it unfortunately failed to deliver on the adventure aspect. With that said it was definitely a book that was hard to put down and mange to get through in a day. I loved that it’s based on mythology with dueling cults looking to acquire the missing artifacts and it sets our teen duo off on an adventure. Overall it was a fun read that I enjoyed.

Unfortunately, I did not finish. I appreciate the opportunity to read this tale. Sadly I found this story a bit convoluted and lost interest halfway in.

Very interesting and quite different from what I usually read, but it was a very enjoyable read. Would love to read more of this!

I read Sanctuary Bay by these authors and I loved it, so when I was contacted to read this one I immediately jumped at the chance. I love any book that draws me in with an untrustable bad boy to be honest, I loved Ash. His character was dynamic and I loved seeing the relationship between him and Memphis develop as they figured one another out. This author duo is truly dynamic, and I'm yet to be disappointed.

was a gripping thriller that took you to every aspect of trying to figure out what was really going on and what was going to happen next! This was such an amazing book and I can’t wait to see what else is released from this author!

This book is outside of my usual reading genre. I was sent a widget by the publicist and it sounded interesting. The story started off strong but I felt it started to lose steam in the middle.I had a hard time staying invested as the story progresses and sadly lost interest.

DNF'd at 25%, wasn't a fan of the characters or plot. It wasn't my cup of tea, my own fault for requesting a book I wasn't truly interested in.

This is an extremely easy read that is fast-paced. I think it's geared to the younger ya readers, but if you want something fun I'd give it a go. It's a great choice for the reluctant reader who likes Indiana Jones. Bonus points for mixed race characters!

The synopsis intrigued me, but overall it did not fulfill my expectations. It was a little too far fetched at times for me to fully fall in love with,

Oh my goodness! Where to even start with this book? haha

I loved this one. All the twists and turns, and unease between the 2 characters.
You never knew what was going to happen, and the story just kept you on your toes the entire time. And I loved it.

I really like books that can keep me guessing and not able to turn the page fast enough. And this offered both of those things.

And while I thought I knew what was going to happen or who would do what, there were a few times this book got the better of me.

Plus I loved the two main characters.
While they may have not trusted one another, they balanced the other so well. Both adding so much more of that unease to the story (And I mean that in a good way haha)
They both were so dynamic and such well developed characters, I couldn't help but love them both along with the incredible locations they discovered throughout the book.

A total 5 star read for sure.

First of all, thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for offering me an eARC in exchange for a honest review.
You have to know English isn’t my first language, so feel free to correct me if I make some mistakes while writing this review.

A year after her father's death, Memphis is approached by a guy named Ashwin - a guy who tells Memphis her father is still alive and is held captive by a cult worshipping an ancient Egyptian god, since Dr. Engel is the only one who can decipher an ancient map leading to the pieces of a Set animal's artifact.
The only way to save him is to decipher the map before them all and find the artifact first in exchange for her father's life.
Both Memphis and Ash have to work together, but they don't trust one another. Both of them have their own agenda, especially Ash - who is himself member of a cult, this one devoted to Horus and determined to stop anyone from resurrecting Set.
So it begins a journey through different cultures and continents in a race against time - a journey where, like it or not, Memphis and Ash have only each to rely on.

This book had so much potential, but I felt like it lacked something in its performance.

Both character are mixed-race and interesting, with very different backgrounds - Memphis is also a female Indiana Jones with her knowledge of history, mithology and languages.
I'm all for Egypt and archaelogy, adventure and mystery with a little bit of magic involved but it felt like something was amiss. It lacked depth, maybe.
It starts really well, the first chapters went by really fast but when it came to the actual adventurous part... it slowed down and it became monotonous - if it wasn't for the different names, every place Memphis and Ash went seemed the same. No descryption, no charming details, nothing.
It wasn't only that, maybe if the villains made their presence known every now and then it would have been more thrilling.

I liked though the contraposition between mythology and religion, Memphis and Ash's different point of views on the same subject and their different beliefs - that aspect plays a fundamental role in the story.
I also liked how the Good Guys aren't always so good and inclined to do the right thing - I could understand Memphis's frustration so well.

It seems like a negative review, but I enjoyed the book nonetheless - the writing style is functional to the story and never once I got the impression it was written by two different authors, so well done here. And even if it stalls a little, it's still a quick read.
I just wish there was more: more action, more description of all those beautiful places Memphis and Ash visited.

I was really excited to receive this novel for review and it seemed extremely interesting. I loved the idea of a young girl racing across the world to find missing artifacts and to save the day. It almost had a female Indiana Jones vibe to it! Unfortunately, it was a little too far-fetched for me and I felt like the action was a little forced at times. The title definitely plays into the novel as there is not too much trust throughout the entire book. I think it may have been a little more entertaining if the ending would have been a little more realistic, but all in all it was a quick and entertaining read. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy YA action novels with a little twist of sci-fi.

Thank you to NetGalley for sending this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This book was okay. I must admit the premise was intriguing and I mean look at that cover... However it just overall fell flat and didn’t really keep my attention. Lots of action packed elements and I thought the archeologist stuff was cool and really not done in YA enough but again I was BORED!

Memphis was a very strong willed character who was wicked smart and knew a ton about different Egyptian hieroglyphics which again had me intrigued! However the writing and the storyline combined just did not keep my attention!! I had such high expectations here and somehow the book just ended up so MEH. The characters lacked depth but really the plot line just was not engaging for me. Way too analytical and not enough fun or plot twists.

Sadly was let down by this book but wound up giving it three stars just because it was so original and had some cool mummy I dig up old fossils vibes that I would normally be so about! Three stars for originality but unfortunately did not impress.

After her archaeologist father's apparent death in a plane crash, Memphis "M" Engel, the protagonist in I Do Not Trust You, throws herself into attempting to finish his life's work: translating an ancient map written in a secret language. Then she meets Ashwin Sood, a member of a cult which worships the ancient Egyptian god Horus. He informs her that her father is alive and being held captive by the cult. He will trade her father for the map which describes the locations of five different pieces of a statue of Set, a relic which has the power to destroy the world. The statue is sought by not only his cult, but also the cult which follows Set. Instead, M convinces him to join her on a global search for the missing pieces. Although they must collaborate to decipher the clues, with her translating the hieroglyphics and providing vast historical knowledge and his providing the funds, they do not trust each other. When his supernatural abilities are revealed, they begin to confide in each other and join forces to thwart the two cults, whose rivalry threatens world collapse. Their whirlwind travels through the catacombs of Paris, a sacred forest in Norway, the ruins of a submerged temple in Egypt and beyond, make for a suspenseful journey, as readers root for the two to finally trust each other and outwit those who are trying to stop them. I was captivated by all the historical information used to decode clues and lead them from the discovery of one piece after another. All and all, it's a fun and compelling romantic mystery.

The beginning of this really started off well for me but after awhile the adventures just began to feel very repetitive and was difficult to power through which is why I had to bump my rating down.

I did enjoy the characters and I've always been a sucker for anything mythology related, so that was a really cool aspect of the story that I enjoyed.

Definitely a great read for those who enjoy history!
