Fascinating glimpses of warriors (both male and female!) around the world. The focus switches from individuals to armies to specific battles, each described in a two-page spread, illustrated with appealing pictures. Good global coverage. I wish the book had included sources and suggestions for where readers could go to find more information. But still, I know this will be a favorite with 3rd-5th grade students.

Quick little read, but my boys and I loved it! The illustrations are so great! Definitely need to buy a hard copy for our schools library! Celtic warriors, Shaolin Monks, Vikings, oh my! My son loved learning about all the different warriors, and their weapons. This was all in a kid friendly way of course! Great, little read for your little ones!

Beautifully illustrated book about great warriors and famous battles throughout history, including a few women! Good amount of information without overwhelming younger readers. This would make a great addition to any home or school library.

Thank you Netgalley and Flying Eye Books for an advanced copy of this book.

A majority of the text was missing from my preview copy, but it has good potential. I liked the illustrations and kids will find it interesting.

I picked up this book, because of the lovely cover. For some reason, I thought it was a whole book of women warriors. And while there were women warriors, as shown below, they were the exception, rather than the rule.

The rest of the book was about the usual warriors, such as Genghis Khan, Alexander the Great, and Hannibal Barca, (as in the Hannibal that took elephants over the Alps to attack Rome).

Very informative discussion of weapons, and famous battles, such as Crécy, where the British beat the French with their long bowmen.

This would be of great interest to children and adults, that want to dip their toes into some of the cooler bits of ancient history.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

Unfortunately this is a difficult review because though it isn't noted as such, it appears my copy is only a preview version, since it's 33 pages long and the Amazon description has it as been twice that length. Apparently I'm not only missing pages, but also blocks of text. For example, the page about Rameses II has only this on it: "Known to Egyptians as the 'Great Ancestor', Rameses II was the most", and that's it. Clearly something is missing. So what can I say about Ancient Warriors?

The art is absolutely excellent. Just the kind of clear, clean, bright illustration one wants in a non-fiction book. It's spare enough so that one can focus on what one should be focused on, but not so spare as to lack the details to distinguish what separates one weapon for another or one soldier from another. Again, it's exactly the art for this sort of project. The few page of text I had to work with--one on the Mayans and one on the Samurai for instance, offer up some interesting nuggets of information that will entice young readers, such as the "hornet bombs" Mayans concocted or the description of how Vikings lashed their longships together to create a kind of "sea chariot." But again, it's hard to see just how much information is given since I"m missing text. I think this would be a good addition to an elementary school library or a good gift for a young reader (under 5th or 6th grade), but that's just a guess based on what I have available, so take the recommendation accordingly

My kids were excited to read this, and it has nice pictures, but there are NO WORDS on the pages.
