A must read for anyone who enjoys the psychological suspense genre. The book moves at a good pass. The characters are flawed, but not in an annoying way and just enough to keep reading.

The reader of this book feels as though there is a missing piece to the puzzle, which isn't revealed until the very end, when it all finally makes sense. It was an interesting read, but a bit of a struggle to care about any of the characters.

After just finishing The Silent Patient, I can see why there has been so much buzz and praise about it. What a freaking RIDE! Alicia is in a mental institute for killing her husband and has not spoken in years. Criminal psychotherapist Theo is fascinated with Alicia's story and believes he can get her to talk. He lands a job at the hospital where she is and gets his way with the higher-ups so that he can deal with her one-on-one. What transpires was a crazy, shocking ride that left me not knowing who to trust, where the story was going, or how it was going to end. This is the best book I've read in a long time!!

Incredible that this tight psychological thriller is a debut novel. Definitely a page-turner with a delicious twist. Would recommend.

Thx to Netgalley, Celadon books and Alex Michaelides for this ARC. I have to agree with a lot of other reviewers for this book. when they said “What did I just read ? I have to read this ending again ! “
I never saw this end coming and so glad I didn’t,. It was an absolutely fabulous book that was a fast read as I couldn’t wait to see what came next. Loved it . A 5 star from me for sure .

For a psychological thriller, this book was a bit of a slow burn at the beginning for me. Fortunately, though, I had a friend who had just finished it, and she felt the same but loved the book. So I carried on and am glad I did. There is a reason this book is being so well-received.

The story is told in alternating voices between Theo, and Alicia’s diary which tells of the days leading up to the murder of her husband. Although I said it was a slow burn at the beginning, it doesn’t drag. It’s just seemed a slower pace than I’m accustomed to for these types of books. The story unfolds compellingly, and the plotting of this book is expertly crafted, building the suspense in an escalating way through the book.

Of course, there are twists in this book. That’s the fun part of psychological thrillers for me. The book has lots of characters and red herrings that kept me guessing along the way. It was a fun ride. I would recommend for fans of psychological thrillers.

My Rating: 4.5 Stars

4.5 stars. I could not put this book down. A woman is found standing over her dead husband with the gun that killed him in her hands and her wrists slit. When she recovers she is silent and doesn’t speak a word for years. Theo, a psychotherapist, is determined to get her to speak again and uncover the truth. I really enjoyed this story and what the author did with it. This is his debut novel and I can’t wait to see what else he writes.

One of the best thrillers I've read in a long time. Sucks you in and does NOT let go! I couldn't put it down because I HAD to know the reason why. Highly recommend!

Theo Faber, a psychotherapist, has an agenda of his own when he sets out to get a job at the Mental Hospital where Alicia Berenson, convicted of murdering her husband, is held. Theo's own nightmarish childhood has led him to believe he can help bring Alicia out of a silence that happened at the death of her husband. Little does realize the cost his commitment will have on his marriage and his life.

Oh my goodness-what a read! Lots of twists and surprises, and very well written. I had heard a lot about this book, and it lived up to the hype!

This book will keep you hooked from page one. I'm a huge fan of why-dun-its, and tend to favor them over who-dun-its, and this one really kept my attention. I've already ordered copies for the store I work in and have hand-sold quite a few just by flailing my hands when someone asks about it, lol.

The Silent Patient is a book that I wanted to like. There were just far too many times where I felt I had to suspend my disbelief in order to continue reading. So many things that would never have been allowed to happen in a professional setting. I don't mind a few, but this book was filled with instances of things that would never have been allowed.

The ending, the twist - it was not something I saw coming, but it was just. too. much.

I requested an ARC of this book and am disappointed to have to leave a review like this, but I just couldn't see through the stumbling blocks in my mind to enjoy it. Thank you to the publishers, the author and Netgalley for the ARC. My thoughts are my own.

Wow what a thrill of a ride this book was. A patient in a Forensics Unit, who is there for murdering her husband, who refuses to talk and is called “the silent patient”. I mean, that alone would make you want to read this book! How interesting of a book it was, and was a page turner.

I found myself many times wondering why Alicia was refusing to talk. After all this time spent in the Forensics Unit, and still she refuses to talk. That really piqued my curiosity! Doctor after doctor, therapist after therapist, she would speak for no one. Then she meets psychotherapist Theo Faber. He is determined to work with the notorious Alicia and be the one to get her to talk. Will he be successful? Or will he fail like all the rest?

The Silent Patient was one heck of a ride as you read through the chapters and get an understanding of what happened that fateful night when Alicia’s husband was murdered. What truly happened that night and why will Alicia not speak of it?

I loved this book and it had a complex set of characters in it. Alicia with her dark, and mute ways, Theo the psychotherapist with a dark, secretive past. What a fabulous book that was a pleasure to read. With many shocking twists that you will not expect, I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Be sure to read this book to find out!

This book was a pleasant surprise! With multiple domestic thrillers being released monthly, it's getting harder to find a good one that'll still grab you. The Silent Patient does. I will definitely be recommending this book to patrons!

Fast-paced read that kept me guessing until the last page. The plot was well developed and didn't follow the sometimes predictable thriller storyline.

"The Silent Patient" by Alex Michaelides will undoubtedly be among my favourite reads of 2019.
I loved it!
The author was inspired by the Euripedes story concerning Alcestis, who sacrificed herself to the Underworld then was ultimately restored to life, but mute.
He gives us artist Alicia Berenson who shoots her husband five times in the face and then never speaks another word.
Theo Faber, a criminal psychotherapist joins the staff of the Grove Mental Health Facility where Alicia is housed. He is convinced his approach at therapy can help her. His determination to get her to speak again and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband is all-consuming for him. When he finally gets to the truth of that horrific night it is nothing other than mind-blowing!
Many twists, turns and surprises.
Kudos to Alex Michaelides on his brilliant debut psychological thriller!

Thank you to NetGalley and Celadon Books for an arc of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

Once you being reading this book, you will not stop until you have finished it. Alicia Berenson, a well-renowned painted is happily married to a famous photographer, Gabriel, and seems to have it all. That is, until one evening, when Alicia is found to have shot her husband and killed him. After that evening, she never utters another word.
In steps Theo Faber, a psychotherapist, who has wanted to work with Alicia and try to unravel what occurred that fateful night.
To say anything regarding the plot beyond the basics would give the plot away. The twists and unexpected turns only serve to heighten the great mystery of Alicia. Wow-what a story!

I received this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

WOW! Just Wow! I am simply astonished with how amazing this story was! I feel like I just finished listening to a perfectly composed symphony and I am standing amidst hundreds of pleased audience members clapping my hands until they go numb. I have read my fair share of psych-thrillers and this is by far my new number one! This novel could go toe to toe with Gone Girl or Girl on a Train and win by way of knock out.

"Why? Why does she not speak?"

This novel starts out a little differently due to the fact that you know the protagonist (maybe that's not the best word to describe her), or better yet the main character IS guilty of murdering her husband. No question, end of story...or is it? The novel proceeds through the perspective of her psychotherapist Theo. He has taken an invested interest in her (Alicia's) case and his main goal is to get her to speak and tell her story. As events progress it is clear that this story may not be as simple and straight-forward as it sounds. I do not wish to reveal more than that about The Silent Patient because I believe this novel is best read with as few details known as possible.

I simply loved the way Alex Michaelides wove this tale, like a perfectly woven spider's web. And the twist, THE TWIST, simply blew me away. I literally shouted, "No way!" aloud when I discovered it.

Needless to say, this is by far my favorite book of the year, and as I mentioned earlier, my new favorite psych-thriller of all time. Since my completion of this novel a few days ago, I have already been singing its praises at my bookstore and have convinced a number of people to pick it up.
