Another interesting, complicated book in the FBI Thriller series. One of the great things about this series is that there are two story lines going on that usually intertwine in some way. This story begins with someone trying to kill and/or kidnap Sean, Sherlock's and Savich's five year old son. As they figure out who it is from a previous case they were involved in, they become embroiled in the chase for this mentally ill suspect. The second story involves FBI agent Sala Porto, who is missing. His girlfriend has been murdered, witnessed by Police Chief Ty Christie while drinking coffee on her lakeside dock. While dredging for the body, the nets bring up bones, many bones, from the bottom of the lake. The assumption is that a serial killer has been using the lake as a personal dumping ground.

Once again, there is a lot of action with some twists. It is fun trying to figure out how the characters and events will eventually fit together. There were new characters who I hope will appear in future books. This story did not end with anyone falling in love, but there was relationship building involved. There is a bit of psychic activity involved (i.e. visions, dreams and gut feelings) but it does not overwhelm the police work. The things that irked me just a bit is that the FBI agents and police are all good looking, extremely fit and well dressed; that is not what most people relate too. The other thing, as mentioned by another reviewer, is the use of the word "bespoke". By the time I read it for about the third or fourth time, I was cringing. Of course I had to look it up to see where it came from and what it meant. Overall I enjoyed this book. I always watch for this series by Catherine Coulter as I know it will be a quick, enjoyable story. I recommend this book to those who enjoy a quick crime/mystery thriller that is sure to entertain. The publisher, Simon & Schuster Canada - Gallery Books, provided me with a copy of this book to read. The rating, ideas and opinions stated are my own.

I have read Catherine Coulter’s Bride series before and absolutely loved it but this is my first FBI thriller book by her. Reading a book that is already a part of a huge series is always tough because there’s that fear of missing something that you would have known if you had read the previous books. Normally, I would try to read the other books leading up to it but since Paradox is the 22nd in a series (holy crap!) I chose to go in blind.
I really enjoyed this installment and didn’t find that I was missing too much by not starting at the beginning although there were a few details about Savich and Sherlock that I think would have confused me a little less had I taken the time to get to know them first. That being said, I feel that Paradox still works really well as a standalone novel.

This book actually took me a long time to get through. The first half was quite fast paced and hooked me almost immediately. It was so hard to put down. The mix between FBI and local PD was perfect and the characters were instantly likeable. Especially Sala. Love him! I found the case and the background story thrilling as well. It was almost like I was thrown into a mid-season episode of Criminal Minds and I wanted more!

Unfortunately, all that was short lived.

This book started to lose me with the introduction of Leigh. It almost felt like a new writer picked up on this around that time and I found myself losing interest with her story. While I was still engrossed in solving the case and catching the murderer, I didn’t much care for any chapters that had Leigh or her family in it. The dialogue was very dry during those parts and completely unbelievable. My lack of interest showed in my change of reading pace. I will normally read at least an hour each night before bed but I found I could only tolerate about 20 pages at a time. I was quite disappointed at that stage.

While I had mixed feelings throughout the book I still enjoyed the mystery, the detective work and the Norman Bates vibe I got. Coulter managed to keep me guessing until the end and I did NOT see that coming at all so, even though there were a lot of parts about this book that I didn’t care for, I have to hand it to her….that was a damned good mystery!

I think I might slowly work myself through the rest of the books in this series. There is some serious promise there of characters I can grow with and I love that. I also have some Savich/Sherlock questions that need to be answered and what better way to do it?

I would recommend this to lovers of detective books. I think hardcore thriller readers might have some of the same issues that I have though. Again, this can be read as a standalone novel if you aren’t interested in going all the way back to the beginning but I do think this would be much more enjoyed with a bit of character background
.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book to enjoy.

It was my privilege to read another fabulous book by Catherine Coulter. I love the characters and there are some new ones in this instalment. Sean is almost kidnapped sending Sherlock and Savich into a frenzy. An FBI agent is almost murdered. The hunt is on for the killer of a man 5 years before and a serial killer has been dumping bodies in a local lake. Many twists and turns but it all comes together in the end. Thank you NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Canada and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy of this book!
This is the first book I have read by Catherine Coulter and I was afraid when I realized it was a series that I would be lost but I found it easy to get into!
I will definitely look for her books in the future!
