If I’m being honest I think this was more of a two or 2.5 star read. It had some really good attributes however I just don’t think the message was something meant for me. I could relate to some of it but the majority of the time I was reading I felt “this is for someone else.” Which is fine and I definitely see how this book is important and can change someone’s life. I think the author did a good job relating her message to the real world. The only other issue I had with it was that I felt like the writing was a little jumpy and didn’t really flow as nicely as I had expected it to.

Holy Hustle by Crystal Stine examines work and rest. The author discusses the pull of the world to work harder and hustle more and the pull of the church to rest and leave the hustle behind. I love how Ms Stine takes a different approach that is not all or nothing. These two options are not completely opposed to each other. There is a holiness to work and serving God through it. And there is also a holiness to rest. This is a book to read and re-read! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

I LOVED this book. I think Holy Hustle occupys a space that is often overlooked in Christian books. The concept of hustling especially as women is shamed from an early age. We are taught to be Mary, not Martha. Because Martha missed the most important thing. BUT we are expected to produce results like Martha. It is a really unbalanced system and expectation construct we have in the church. I think Holy Hustle does a great job explaining the importance of working hard, to God. And why hustle doesn't have to be a bad thing. I would strongly suggest it!

I absolutely loved this book! It's so nice to hear from a perspective that doesn't shame working hard or being ambitious and shows that everything can be balanced. Fantastic!

Crystal Stine's book was exactly what I needed in this season. During a time of heading back to work and balancing being a mom, I needed to read her words - especially because I love my job so much! Crystal's book was freeing and empowering - it made me feel GOOD about the call to work in this season, and also challenged me to achieve that 'holy hustle' - a beautiful balance of rest and hard work.
Working moms, high-achievers and type-A personalities should all have a copy of this book on their shelves. I have a feeling it's a book I will refer to time and time again over the course of this season!

I loved how she took the negative conation out of the word Hustle because it is a very positive part of working I love the way she expressed how important rest as well as work is to God I feel anyone with a business or working to build a career should read this book

Crystal Stine and I have a LOT in common, so it seems. She’s a wife, mom, Christian, freelance writer, introvert and online entrepreneur, just like me! Also, we are both hardworking women who don’t want to feel guilty about our drive to produce, yet we want to follow Jesus in our callings.

I love her inspiring, gentle, and encouraging voice in Holy Hustle, which affirms the way God made us like Ruth in the Old Testament. Crystal says that our hustle can be holy if we handle it with prayer and intention. She offers lots of thoughtful ideas on how to get there.

Even though I’m familiar with Ruth’s story, I hadn’t seen it through the unique lens of working hard until Crystal defined it that way. It helps me feel happier about all the tasks God has given me to complete. She also offers tips on how to simplify and streamline your work, so you can prioritize rest and recreation.

She also tells us how our holy hustle can bless others, because we can use our drive for uber-productivity to glorify God. Her words are positive and helpful, giving me hope that I can adopt a different attitude toward my work.

Favorite quotes:
God has given us all beautiful abilities and distinct personalities that can be used to honor others and, in return, receive the kind of blessings that last far longer than our careers.
Choose to harvest the blessings of holy hustle by putting aside what you think is best and lean into the blessings you never knew you needed.
When you trust that the God who built every aspect of your personality has plans for it that are good…you can…rest in that healthy space where you live fully in the abundant blessings of being His daughter.

I didn’t know that hustle could be holy. I grew up thinking that “hustling” was limited to those who were trying to get rich doing non-traditional jobs – things like selling goods on the sidewalks. I thought it was limited to those who started dozens of companies always with a new idea to make some money but never enough oomph to sustain it. I didn’t realize that I was “hustling” too.
Hustle means doing a whole lot of things (usually at the same time). Somehow we have redefined hustle and made it into a dirty word. “Let’s redeem hustle” Crystal invites us, “by recognizing how God has uniquely created us with talents that are to be used for his glory.” While we are learning to use our talents for God’s glory we also need to learn how to rest. We rest by modeling the example set by our Creator.
Crystal shows the readers of Holy Hustle new ways of looking at the work that they are called to do. She invites them to look at their motivations, intentions and goals … why do you do the things you do? Then she shows us new ways to look at the way we do those things.
Know God – Each chapter ends with a section that invites us to dig deeper. We are invited to get our Bibles and read a teaching on the topic that we covered.
Know yourself – Sprinkled throughout the book are questions that prompt us to introspection. We are given the chance to ask ourselves some frank questions. The answers, if we’re honest, can change the way we look at things and how we approach work and rest.
Run your race – As one half of an identical set of twins, Crystal knows how the importance of remaining true to your identity. She encourages her readers to use the gifts they have been given to do the work that they have been called to do.

I have been trying to advocate rest within my ministry group for a while but it feels like a losing battle but this book seems to articulate a lot of what I have been trying to say. True if we are called to a task we should be diligent but when we overextend and overwork we are doing ourselves a disservice. The writer takes us through this book with a nice flow as she guides us to lean on God, trust Him with His plan for us. To work well and to rest well also. Work is good, rest is holy.
This book is divided into ten chapters but don't skip the forward or introduction. Each chapter begins with a short quote to the top, then the meat of the chapter, a digging deeper section, then a Holy Hustle Story, and finally a reflection with questions. This is not a book to just read through. No you work through this book, work through your thoughts, perspective and life stage to get to what works best for you. Holy Hustles is not a one size fits all and working through this book helps you to get to what fits you and your life.
