Mr. Gobewole does deliver some excellent statistics and there is no question in my mind his heart is in the right place. He genuinely tries to come up with solutions to some of the most intractable problems of political economy of the African continent.

He relies a little too much on American NGOs who are committed to laissez-faire ideology. Although claiming to be against neo-liberal policies that have clearly not worked and advocating some protection of African industries, he fails in a number of regards. Clearly military meddling and efforts to corrupt government by the West have been brutal to African economies. Its no that African leaders can be bribed, its that the West has by long history and strategy worked to corrupt these governments.

The book does promote dialogue on this very important subject. Without any doubt the author is correct that resource extraction, the legacy of slavery and colonialism and the corrupt practices of African governments are the main problems facing Africa. But these are part of the ongoing external pressure to make Africa give its resources for next to nothing to the West and destroy its own ability to compete. All the good governance in the world won't change that.
