I would like to thank Thomas & Mercer Publishing and Netgalley for this partnership.

There is Nicole Foster, who is repairing her childhood home on the Washington coast. She raises her niece there and looks after her fragile father. When a newborn is found dead in a car, his father has forgotten him. She's gonna try to solve this case.

My first book by this author, I love his pen. The story is captivating, moving and full of suspense and twists. I recommend it.

I didn’t love this book. I had a hard time getting interested in the characters and I did not like the authors writing style. I might have enjoyed the book more if I had read the first book in the series. It seemed the author was referring to a backstory I wasn’t aware of.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Netgalley, the publisher and Gregg Olsen for yet another great read.
Let me start by saying I did not read the first book in this series but will go buy for sure.
This is my second book from Gregg Olsen and I have loved both of them.
This story was difficult to read because it centered around the murder on a one year old child.
It pained me to read thru certain parts of this book. As a mother and grandmother you cannot imagine hurting or looking at a child in pain.
This was a fast paced, well written book which brought out a lot of emotions.
I cannot wait to read another book from you. Thank you for another great read.

This is the second in the Nicole Foster series. A baby has been found in a hot car. The father says he forgot about his baby girl. But did he really forget her? Nicole and her partner Carter investigate the case.
Nicole is raising her niece but her sister shows up. What is the deal with her? If that isn't hard enough Nicole's father is in a nursing care and cannot remember her. She has a lot on her plate to deal with on a daily basis.
Gregg Olsen is an excellent writer and this book is excellent as well.

Nicole was a very 3 dimensional character. I was incredibly impressed with her development and distinct personality.

The Weight of Silence by Gregg Olsen was a difficult book to read. I usually like books by Gregg Olsen but with this book it was difficult to find any character who was likable or had a interesting personality.I actually felt sorry for Nicole whose life seemed to revolve around her jealousy of her evil sister Stacy. The story revolves around the d eath of a baby girl who is left in a closed car to die of the heat. Firs the father is charged with her murder and as the story progresses he seems like a total closer and very unlikable. Nicole and her friend Carter are the police officers incharge of the murder. eventually they learn that the child's mother pusher her husband in leaving their child in the hot car for hours. Very unpleasant plot and not fun to read.

I loved this book!!! I am definitely hooked on this series now. Unfortunately, I have not read the first but I plan to when I get the chance.

I loved that it had a murder to solve but yet family drama as well. When someone is intentionally evil and want to come back into your life do you let them? What if they want your prized possession and are holding someone over your head that you did in the past and will go to prison?

Nicole has made mistakes in her past. Who hasn't? Her sister knows her secret and is blackmailing her. Should get turn herself in and lose her daughter or should she kill her sister to protect herself?

All the while, Nicole is in the middle of a huge case. Did Luke leave his daughter in the car on purpose? Did his grieving wife have something to do with it?

Thank you Netgalley for my ARC of this book. I loved it from the beginning! There is a full synopsis in my blog below and on Amazon.

This was an excellent read by any standards.

There are two things that stand out for me. One, I kept forgetting the author is male. His protagonist is a thirty-something (nearer forty than thirty?) female detective, Nicole Foster. The author writes in a first person point of view throughout the novel so the reader is seeing, feeling all through "female" eyes. That makes me query whether female readers also "forgot" the author was a male or could they tell? It's an interesting point.

The second thing was the really neat book ends. A mirror image of the same scene both in the prologue and closing chapter. It worked.

The homicide investigation was in itself fascinating as were the characters of the main suspects. The homicide was so different than the usual run-of-the mill shootings and stabbings etc though nonetheless horrific. What could be more horrific than a toddler left to "cook" inside a car during a heatwave? Foster and her fellow detective have to determine whether this was a deliberate act or a tragic accident.

But strange as it may seem, the investigation took a back seat (pun intended) to the personal demons Detective Foster had to deal with. That is the fascinating part of this book and kudos to the author for pulling it off magnificently.

This is Book #2 in the Nicole Foster series but it can be read as a standalone. I did. I now need to read Book #1 'The Sound of Rain.'

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with s free digital copy of this book through NetGalley. I was under no obligation to review it and all opinions expressed are my own.

Gregg knocks out of the park with another edge of your seat with Nicole Foster. Twisting, turning & surprising read. Each book always better than the previous. Sorta like a Bob Ross painting ~~ you think it's already concluded, Yet another awesome writing of his works continue and just leaving you with WOW and I sure didn't see that coming. A great stand alone or Part 2 from The Sound of Rain.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read this in return for a review. I loved The weight of silence! I read The sound of rain (the first book in the series) right before this one) and found I really liked Nicole. She is down to earth, gritty and makes the same mistakes the rest of us do. The weight of silence was at times difficult to read because of two things; the plot was very real; a child dies from being left in a car during a heatwave; and 2 sisters very much at odds with one another (I found the ending very hard to read). Gregg Olsen's writing brought Nicole's world to life for me, and I hope he continues this series!

The Weight Of Silence – Gregg Olsen

I was fortunate to receive this novel from Netgalley.com as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.

Nicole Foster is a Detective with the Aberdeen, California PD, who, partnered with Carter Hanson, is called upon to investigate the death of a toddler left in a hot car. In a scene reminiscent of the Harris incident in 2014, a distraught driver has pulled over in a mall parking lot and is screaming. His baby girl, left in the hot car for the entire workday, is deceased.

Nicole has her own problems. As a mother figure to her niece Emma, and sister to a sociopath named Stacy, and provider for her Alzheimer’s afflicted father, she also has overcome a large career mis-step that resulted in a firing from a former law enforcement position, along with a gambling addiction that had left her homeless. Aberdeen PD is her chance at redemption.

As the investigation into the death of little Ally Tomlinson intensifies, it becomes quickly apparent that there is more to the story than a toddler forgotten in a hot car. Timelines don’t all match and cameras and computers hold hidden clues for the detectives.

Meanwhile, Nicole learns the hard way that her sister has returned, and has set her sights on Emma…

Another fabulous read from Gregg Olsen! I couldn’t put it down! A gritty police procedural about human relationships, the dynamics of sisterhood, and the dark recesses of the pathological mind.

Thank you to NetGalley, Gregg Olsen and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really like Gregg Olsen's books, whether it's one of his fictional thrillers or a true crime nail biter. I enjoyed "The Sound of Rain", so I was excited to read "The Weight of Silence". Nic is the perfect complex character, and you really feel for her and the things she has to deal with in her life. I'm already looking forward to the next book! Another great read from Gregg Olsen.

I liked the detective side of the story and the crime drama. I would definitely pick up another Nicole Foster novel just to continue with her character. It was interesting seeing her at work, with her partner, and how things were revealed to build the case and resolve the crime.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys police procedurals and gritty crime dramas with strong, well developed characters. I would suggest starting the series with either book as the case is what sparked my interest and then the story delivered a solid character to follow.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and Gregg Olsen for the opportunity to read this book - loved it! This is the sequel to The Sound of Rain and while it would still be an enjoyable read, it was much more enjoyable reading them together.

In this sequel, Nicole Foster is making a new life in her hometown, raising her niece, looking after her father, and again working as a police officer. On a sweltering day, a father discovers he has left his baby in a locked car all day. As Nicole and her partner investigate, they must determine if it was accidental or something unforgivable.

Nicole's past comes back to haunt her new fragile life. What lengths will she go to to protect all that she holds dear?

These were a great pair of books - highly recommended.

Another great thriller from Greg Olsen. A story pulled from the summer headlines, a father accidentally forgets his child in the car.. But is it really an accident? Detectives Nicole and Carter lead us through an investigation filled with twists and turns into the luge of a family that is anything but happy and filled with love. While Nic struggles to find answers in this case where no one knows what truth is, she also struggles with her own battle to support her father suffering with Alzheimer's and the return of her psychotic sister who threatens the one thing Nic loves most, her niece that she has raised since her sister left token on the heels of her husband mysterious death. As always Greg Olsen weaves a add tpry that is fast paced, timely and filled with emotion.

As a book categorized and sub-titled ‘thriller’ this doesn’t do it for me since it’s pretty much pointed to all who the killer is. It’s just a matter of finding hard evidence and the why.
AS to the main character, she is a carboard copy of any police officer written. The one thing I saw that separates her from the rest of the pack is that though she is supposed to be an experienced police officer, the angst and ‘my-life-sucks-then-and-now’ moping can rival and even beat most young adult book characters in drama. Other than that, she is a typical police officer ever written and I like that she is a gray character.
Overall, the case in the book engaged me but the main character’s drama hurts my eyes from too many eyerolls.a

I really enjoyed this book some parts of this book may not be suitable for everyone due to some of death scenes of a child. The book starts with detective Nicole Foster back in her hometown having gotten a second chance after some things that happened in the first book. Her sister Stacy has always been the perfect sister in their mothers and father eyes . Well Stacy’s husband died in a mysterious house explosion that Nicole is certain Stacy caused. Now Nicole is raising Stacy’s daughter while Stacy is living the high life off her husbands life insurance. While at work Nicole is investigating the death of a one year old girl who was left in the car on the hottest day of summer and dies after her father forgot to bring her to daycare, both Nicole and carter her partner are the lead investigators. The father is quickly arrested and further investigation shows what a monster he truly is and it’s also looking like the mother has quite a few secrets herself and she’s not much better. I loved the depth of each character that your introduced to. This book is full of lies , deceit and you really don’t know who to trust. Gregg Olsen is truly an amazing writer he really dives into difficult situations and subjects and you find yourself still thinking about the book even after you have finished it I give this book five stars!!

This Olson’s second book in Nicole Foster series. The writing is excellent and the characters well drawn. Olson hooks his readers from page one. This a page-turner of a read. However, it is not an easy read and certainly not for the faint of heart because the crime that Foster and her partner, Carter Hanson, have been assigned to investigate is the death of a one-year-old locked into the back seat of her father’s car for several hours on the hottest day of the current heat wave. Olson does not spare his readers any of the details this horrific death. As the story progresses, Olson cleverly drops clues about where the story might be going. There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged until the last page.
