This book was meant for a younger audience than myself but I thought it was interesting and very relevant in today’s politically charged world. The storyline was compelling because it takes on a college romance involving the daughter and son of political rivals running for the Presidency of the United States which is a very tall order. The author included plenty of details about the campaign and the Secret Service agents whose job it is to take care of their VIP which made the story very believable. She also took on bullying, anorexia and under age drinking which are even more relevant topics for college students in the time we live in. All in all, she accomplished her goals while plotting the growing maturity of her characters, Lucia and Dane, as they live their high pressure lives in the spotlight of the national press as well as flavoring the story with plenty of details on the college sport of volleyball which I found very entertaining. On a personal note, I was disappointed to discover this story has a cliffhanger because I feel that serial books should be labeled as such, but that has little to do with whether a book is a good read and this one definitely is worth experiencing. I read a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

This story is a new angle for me as it involves politics which I tend to avoid if possible, but the book cover was intriguing so I challenged myself to read it.The story had depth, some originality and realism and I enjoyed the love -hate sentiments apparent between the main characters.Dane and Lucia are the teenaged children for presidential opponents seeking a win to the highest office in the country and they come laden with a not so good back history. It was amusing how laid back the security details were and how unlikely the premise for the protagonists having to live together. The author did not bog us down with too many details about politics, and showed us the humanity in these public figures and how the decision to seek public office affects everyone associated with it.The author also wove in some deep issues such as teenage pregnancy, body self-image and infidelity.I enjoyed this ARC reading provided by Netgalley.

Blocked is a sports romance focused on volleyball with lots of sports terms and references. It is a bit of an off limits romance. Lucia’s Dad and Dane’s mom are political rivals and the story was a little heavy on politics for me. It also touched on eating disorders and dealt with that subject in a sensitive and informative way. The characters felt a bit younger than their ages, too. From reading the blurb for this book I think I expected it to be one thing and reading it I found it to be something else. Maybe more of a YA feel than the NA I had expected.

I found this to ben an engaging and entertaining read, I liked how Dane and Lucia are developed, we get to see with their strengths and flaws, and to me that makes them come across in a more realistic sense. There is drama in the story, but that merely enhances because we get to see how the familial drama in both families affects these two. A bit heavy on the politics side, I feel that while politics does play a part in the book, Dane had a tendency of being close-minded, instead of being willing to see things from another point of view.

I knew exactly what I was looking for when I started reading this book and it did not disappoint. After wading into several heavy and emotional reads the past couple weeks I was looking for something lighter and a bit more breezy. Blocked was everything I hoped for.

For the most part, I really liked the main characters: Lucia and Dane. I thought the author did a superb job in developing their strengths and weaknesses, both as individuals and as a couple. They both had their fair share of drama consuming their lives but it never felt like too much or that the plot was overcrowded with blatant issues popping up.

I did think that the politics started to feel pushy in their delivery. Dane was so adamant about his liberal beliefs and he never left any room for discussion. It seemed like every time differences in viewpoints were brought up he wanted to go for the knockout. It became overbearing. Lucia seemed more toned down and internalized her thoughts more, which l thought swayed the book in a certain way. I get the needed conflict, I just didn't really like the tone.

Blocked is very mild for a New Adult book, even surprisingly so at some points in the story when the chemistry between Dane and Lucia flared fairly bright. It was a relationship with a slow buildup, and *bonus points* no insta-love here!

I saw that some reviews for this book mentioned the cliff-hanger ending. I actually really enjoyed it and thought it was an appropriate way to send the characters off into the future. Plus, it just made me want to continue on to the next book in the series as quickly as possible. Touche, Jennifer Lane!

*I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

I liked it, not loved it. It was just okay. I liked the narrative and the characters but they didn't jump out at me. It was a quick read

I really enjoyed this title, I just find that politics side made a larger role than the sport aspect of the story.

That said, I felt that the author handled the assist of a very touching subject of politics very well and I didn't feel like there was any kind of negativity to either party.

I also I LOVED the idea of a Mexican American republican running for president!

I am a volleyball player of 9 years so to read a sports romance about volleyball was right up my alley! I absolutely adored this book! I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

I enjoyed this one because it was a little different than your standard romance novel... The main characters play volleyball which is definitely unique, and each of them has a parent who is running for president. Lucia is a freshman on a VB scholarship at the same school as Dane, a sophomore with the same. They end up living in the same house and it is really cute how they end up spending more time together and getting to know each other better. Quick, light romance although it does address some important issues such as easing disorders, juvenile diabetes, school/sports stress and absentee parents. Thanks NETGALLEY!!!!

Blocked was an ok read, I felt it lacked chemistry between the 2 main characters, however the overall theme of the story was pretty good.

This book was kind of slow going for me. I really liked the plot, though I'm not sure how I feel about the portrayal of the Democrat and Republican Parties from both sides. Lucia and Dane was definitely a bit too hotheaded and I wanted to facepalm out of annoyance quite a few times, but I've also never had the pressure of having the entire world watching me. Overall, a fun read! I don't think it's going on my reread shelf, though.

I throughly enjoyed this book! It is fresh and different and the characters are so good. Amazing character growth in this book, Dane starts out really annoying and self absorbed but as he goes through all the trials thrown his way he starts to grown up right before your eyes! Lucia is such a strong, fierce lady and when her stupid coach plays a little mind game with her, her world starts to implode around her. How she rises up from this and how strong she truly is in this book is awesome! I love the secret service agents and how involved they are in the daily lives of Dane and Lucia. This is just an overall good book.

I previously read this book in 2014 when it was released and was so impressed by the enemies to lovers vibe I got from Lucia and Dane. I thought this was sexy and filled with snarky and sexy banter.

While I did think this story was filled with OTT family and political drama at times, I enjoyed the fact that Lucia and Dane fought their attraction to eachother almost as much as they fought with one another. This story was defin a win and I plan to read more in this series shortly.
