I liked the illustrations best in “Wake Up Hippo!” After the first two pages, I thought the whole book was going to rhyme, and was disappointed when it didn’t.

This is a cute little board book for toddlers with basic illustrations. As a speech language pathologist, I have used this book in my therapy with young children. It is a great choice for babies and toddlers for turn-taking, language development and vocabulary development. This is the 40th anniversary edition. The text of the book describes the various moods and activities of the hippo, which are supported by illustrations. It's a great choice for families to include in their home libraries with very young children. Preschool teachers and therapists working with young children may want to include it in their classroom libraries as well.

It’s not bad, its just old. It may be a new edition, but it feels 40 years old. And the illustrations look 40 years old. A simple board book about the day in the life of a hippo. There are much better hippo books.

This is a very simple book for toddlers and babies. Hippo is shown on each page accompanied by a simple sentence describing what he is doing such as brushing his teeth or putting on his striped t-shirt. Very large and colourful illustrations show what he is doing to assist with picture clues. A great little story for family libraries as well as pre-school classrooms.

Very cute book. Would be perfect for beginning readers and could easily be paired with books about real hippos, such as Fiona at the Cincinnati Zoo.

This looks a fun book for littles! Hippo doesn't do much really, but littles will enjoy watching him wake in the morning and depending on the weather be either in a good or bad mood. If good, he'll brush his teeth, put on his swim suit and go for a swim! Fun book for a hot day in summer before swimming! Illustrations are bold and simple. Short story, so even a baby could enjoy it!
