I enjoyed this book, but struggled with the chapters written from the animals POV...seemed unnecessary and stoped the flow of the narrative

Katie is just an eager beaver when it comes to Bowie at times, "Katie lifted her head a couple of inches from his chest and shot him an impish look. “So, I’ve got another condom. When do you think you’ll be ready for round two?” Bowie has a big mouth, nothing stays secret with him, “Bowie Wilson,” he said. “I own this zoo, and I’m sleeping with your sister.” I liked this book, I loved how animals were a huge part of the story.

This is the first time I have read this author and this book was absolutely wonderful Beyond terrific! It is not a short book, it is long but there is a lot to cover in the story so it did not feel long. It stars two wonderful and amazing characters who really have a very complicated history. But the author really did an amazing job making Bowie pay for his past and did not excuse what he did easily.

Katie was a nerd growing up and Bowie was the super cute guy she crushed on. Her nemesis Sawyer, used him to humiliate her in the worst ways and Bowie actually came out with some of the plans and mean things to do to her. And they were beyond what you would imagine.

So Katie left town 10 years before, she only comes back because her dad is injured and her mom needs her help. While home she finds some wild cubs and calls in the local zoo to help rescue them. That is how she sees Bowie again. Now he is running the local zoo and has an 11 year old daughter. Bowie and Sawyer got pregnant at 17 and she dumped him and their daughter and this really caused him to grow up fast.

At first he does not recognise Katie but when her parents volunteer her to help the zoo as a volunteer, and she comes up with a social media plan and her first stunt is to have Bowie kiss a pig well he recognises her. Bowie has always known he was awful to Katie and he knows she can never forgive him. While he wants to be with her, he knows she will never be able to forgive the things he did.

Katie is in lust with Bowie but she knows she can never trust him and she she has a sex only relationship with him and let me tell you, I loved that she just uses him for sex. I also loved how she hurts him and how she eventually forgives him. It was not something simple that she did. It took a long time and she made him jump through a lot of hoops and that was really needed.

This book was just amazing. I dont want to spoil too much. But the author totally made Bowie pay for how he treated Katie and I really loved that about the story.
