Paint Watercolor Flowers offers great instructions on how to create shadows in watercolor paintings. Highly recommended for artists who have some experience with the medium and want to advance their technique and skill. Recommended for public libraries.

Beautiful book and beautiful artworks. Unfortunately, I had trouble applying the techniques since I don't often draw flowers as detailed as the artist. While the techniques used in each painting was visually applied and shown very closely in pictures, I couldn't appreciate the drawing part as well as I expected. I was hoping to see a bit of the structures the artist drew but since it's already focused on the painting part, I struggled on this end. Maybe next time it would help to provide an initial line drawing of the entire piece, that way I can better understand and apply her techniques.

Paint Watercolor Flowers – A Beginner’s Step-by-Step Guide is a comprehensive book that covers everything you need to know in order to paint gorgeous watercolor flowers. Not only does the author explain basic watercolor techniques, but also covers things such as supply options, color theory, shading, and composition. The thing that I love best about this book is the copious amount of pictures that show each step in the process. The second half of the book is dedicated to specific instruction for painting about ten different flowers. When I first looked at this book, I was overwhelmed and certain that reproducing the beautiful flowers in the book were far beyond my abilities. After reading the detailed instructions in the book, I am eager to give it a try.

I received an advance reading copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. I was not obligated to write a positive review.

From page one to the end this is a book that inspires you either get your paints out and start painting right away or if you're new to watercolours to give ago asap.

Actually a lot more in-depth than I expected! I really loved that at first, but then as time went on I found myself feeling a little bogged down in detail. I realised that I would have preferred a more basic book with a more basic layout - this book even goes into the lighting you should use when painting, which is impressive, but felt a little beyond a beginner like me.

Perhaps if I were a more professional painter, I would rate this higher, however as I am only a beginner and tend to go more by feel in general, the experience of reading this was kind of intense and drawn out. (Also I believe the experience would have been better had it been a physical book, as the formatting of the ebook didn't always translate well, with pictures across several pages.)

A beautifully illustrated book on watercolour flower painting. Full of inspiration and clear step by step instructions. The author is encouraging and the pages are bursting with colour and a variety of flowers to have a go at. Great for beginners but also those with some experience looking to vary or improve their techniques. Overall a lovely book. Thank You

"Paint Watercolor Flowers" teaches beginners how to use watercolor plus how to paint flowers. I wish I had this book back when I first decided to try watercolor because it would have saved me a great deal of frustration. The author not only covered the different watercolor tools and materials, but she explained their characteristics so that the reader can understand why certain materials are more suited to different styles of painting. The text clearly explained the information, and the pictures clearly demonstrated the information or technique. The steps in the demonstrations were clearly explained so that you can successfully follow them. Overall, I'd highly recommend this useful book.

The author started by talking about the various tools and materials. She then talked about watercolor techniques and troubleshooting tips, color theory, and composition (including how to use pictures of flowers to create or inspire a composition). She included 9 step-by-step flower demonstrations, each building upon skills practiced in the previous demonstrations. She's an excellent art teacher.

I’ve been a fan and follower of the author, so when I saw this being offered as a #netgalley option, I immediately requested it. First off, it is just a beautiful book. I love Ms. O’Connor’s style and could look at her paintings all day. For that reason, I love the book.

For all intents and purposes, this book is written for a beginner watercolorist. It has the most helpful, basic information to help with your watercoloring journey. It covers supplies, lighting, setup, practical hacks, techniques, etc.

The reason I do not give it a 5-Star rating is because, even though the information therein is directed to beginners, the demos and samples are not. It’s almost like she couldn’t make up her mind whether to write it for newbies or intermediate artists.

Though I don’t consider myself as a completely beginner watercolorist, I still found her samples too daunting to follow. There is also no hints on where to get the drawing or or sketch prior to painting. She doesn’t always include a photo reference. It would’ve been very helpful if she provided those in each demo. In the ebook version, it is even hard to see the pencil sketch of her samples to follow.

If she had included simpler, but still beautiful, samples, I would consider this as the best watercolor book for beginners. Still, it is worth purchasing for use as a reference and because it is just simply a gorgeous book.

I am a painter but have never tried watercolour as it always seemed very difficult compared to oils or acrylics. This is a very detailed book, with lots of explanation and examples. Watercolour is certainly a very different style of painting, and this book certainly, whilst not making it sound easy, makes it not sound so daunting to a first timer. There are comprehensive chapters on tools, basic techniques, understanding colour in reference to watercolour, and designing strong composition. There are a series of flowers at the back of the book with instructions to practise on
I found the book very interesting and worthwhile, it not only gives me an insight to a new form of painting but a new respect for the watercolour artist.

This is such a beautiful reference for watercolor. I love how the author doesn't just cover "how" to paint the way she does, but "why" she chooses the style of brush, amount of water, amount of paint, type of stroke, etc. A beginner will have plenty of information to get started with this medium, but a more experienced painter will also find value in this approach.

This book is excellent for watercolor beginners. It starts with basics from choice of tools, brush strokes, lifting color, etc. It's very detailed. The pictures are really good as a guide. I would definitely recommend it for beginners.
The variety of flowers demonstrated are quite a lot as well. It also talks about how to design your painting. My only criticism is I wish there was a bit more variety in design. It generally focused on close up, bit flower painting. There could be some other perspectives.
But, overall, it is a really good book to have to start and learn a lot.

Starting by explaining colours, mixing them, pigment, quality of paints and value of varying types. There's tips on techniques and where to get started completely from scratch basically!

There's a handy guide to how to use a photograph to sketch an outline to work from to create your watercolour and how to later your painting up stage by stage.

Colourful watercolour images show how beautiful the art of watercolour painting can be. Anyone can be aided by this book in any way as we can always develop knowledge and technique more.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!
