Wow... Wow... Wow... What more can I say about this book. First of all, I was just so thrilled to get sucked back into the Lux world. I always felt like there was something missing in this story and as I read this book, I realized what was missing was more of Luc.

Before I go on with my review, if you haven't read the Lux series, I must warn you there might be some spoilers from that series in my review and I highly recommend you start it now so you can plunge yourself into this book afterwards.

So the story is set four years after the Luxens tried to get control of the Earth and now they are learning to coexist for the most part. The book is told from Evie’s point of a view, a seventeen years old girl, who always played it on the safe side… except that night.

Following her friends to a club where she shouldn’t even able to get into, she meets Luc, a guy that caught her interest from the moment her eyes landed on him. From that moment, nothing in her life is average… From the raid in the club to the moment she keeps meeting with Luc, nothing in her life will be the same.

We met Luc in the Lux series and he was always an intriguing character. When he was there, the focus was always on him and this book is no different. Luc will suck you in with the way he talks, acts and the way is simply is. His interest with Evie will bring them both down a path that neither of them can come back from.

Luc and Evie are two strong characters that connect even if she doesn’t want to admit it. Throughout the book, you see how their paths keep bumping together for better or worse; she always finds herself going back to him.

Old characters from the Lux series make appearances in this book and I’m really hoping will get to see more of them throughout the series too.

But each character in this book, big or small, all had an impact into making this book what it is and that’s an amazing read. I hated it when I had to stop reading to do things like going to work.

From the first few chapters to the end, this book brings you entertainment and so many new questions and thoughts about this world. There isn’t one moment of dullness in this book as there is always something going on.

This book is a MUST READ! It has everything to keep you hook from the first line to the last. Luc and Evie are two characters that just made the story flow effortlessly; you just want to keep following them throughout this book and wonder what the next one will bring.

So am I looking forward to the next book? DEFINITELY! Do it I need it like now? Like DUH! I’ll wait, but it will be hard to do.

I loved this book the first time I read it and it was called Twilight. And it had shiny, super fast vampires instead of aliens. And there weren't any cringe worthy nicknames. I was really looking forward to this one, and I do have to admit I haven't read any of the books in the Lux world, but I just couldn't stop rolling my eyes. It does get 3 stars from me, because it was entertaining and I kept reading until the end.

This book. Oh my Darkest Star, I have so much love!!! My hardcore love of all books JLA started back with Obsidian waaaay back in 2012, and I have gobbled up every single book she's written since. Le sigh. And here we are 5+ years later....

When we first met Luc in the Lux series, he was so young - but we learned so much from him.

When Evie Dasher visits Luc's nightclub with her friend Heidi, she has no idea how that one seemingly small event will change her life, but it appears to be the first step in a series of events that start to spiral out of control in the small town Evie is living in with her mom. Three years after the invasion and the Luxen that were forced out of hiding are now living openly alongside the humans.

And Luc is....still the arrogant, over the top intelligent Origin we met all those years ago. And Evie is drawn to him in ways she never expected. As strange things start happening in their small town, Evie realizes that Luc has a lot of the answers she never knew she had the questions to, and the two begin to grow closer.

I do not want to give away one single tidbit about this amazing spin off, so I'll just say, you have GOT to grab this book...it is absolutely amazing...another example of the amazing way that Armentrout has of pulling the reader in until there is nothing but the story. I wish I'd had time to re-read the Lux series before picking this one up... I will definitely do a reread before book 2 so that I can be as immersed in the world as possible.

Did I mention I loved this book?

The Darkest Star was breathtakingly emotional! It was swoon worthy and filled with action, banter, love, friendships, lies and deceit. This book pulled me right in from the start and held me in its clutches till that last page. I was beyond lost to the world around me and I couldn't be happier because this was my most anticipated book of the year. It more than lived up to my expectations. Seriously. My mind was blown and I loved every single tiny detail. I'm happy to say that The Darkest Star is my favorite book of the year!

How in the world did I end up here? What series of really bad life choices had I made that led me to this very moment?

While you don't have to read The Lux Series first, because Jennifer does an amazing job of catching you up, I highly recommend you do. This book took place a few years after The Lux Series ended and I have to confess that I literally screamed out loud every single time we saw or heard about a character from the past. I loved the familiarity of it all, but at the same time, so many things were different. It was now known that aliens lived among humans, a percentage of the population was lost in the war and there were new laws and regulations put in place for the aliens that lived among us. I was fascinated seeing what the world now looked like.

“You’re still so incredibly stubborn.”
“You . . . don’t know me,” I gritted out.

I had no clue how I would feel towards Evie, aka Evelyn Dasher. Her father played a horrific role in The Lux Series and I hated him with a passion. But right from that first page, I loved Evie. She was just so relatable, logical, sweet, kind and had the hugest heart ever. I was so happy that I also liked her friends and her mom. And just a few pages into the story, Evie found herself going with a friend to a club. Yet it turned into so much more than she could have imagined. Not only did she meet Luc, but he claimed to know her. Even though she had no clue who he was. And so began the journey of unraveling the truths and the lies and I loved every minute of it!

“You tried to kidnap me, Luc.”
“Hmm,” he murmured. “That means I like you.”
I arched a brow. “Okay. That’s messed up on about a thousand different levels.”
“Probably. I don’t people well.”
“Gee, really,” I replied dryly.

Luc was EVERYTHING! I can't wait for you to meet him all grown up. Yes his people skills could still be super awkward, but he was hilarious, sigh worthy and charming without even trying. My heart was already broken for him, because of his past and the way he was raised. But he had so much light in him. He made me laugh, sigh and when I started to see how much he protected those he cared for, it was astounding. You guys, Luc was the ultimate book boyfriend. While I never ever thought I would say this, because Daemon has been my #1 bbf for the last four years, Luc not only challenged him but he has grabbed first place. I feel so disloyal saying that, but Luc was beyond amazing. And I can see countless others falling for his charm too.

Our stares connected , and the effect was instantaneous. Everything around us faded, and there was just us, and this . . . this sensation of falling. I couldn’t look away as this feeling surfaced, rushing to the top.
I’ve been here before.
My breath caught as a wave of tight shivers rippled over my skin. That thought didn’t make sense. I hadn’t been here with him before.

When Evie and Luc were together, they were completely entertaining. I loved that Evie didn't just fall for Luc. The boy definitely drove her crazy at times lol. But there was this amazing chemistry and pull between them. Between that and their banter, I always felt like Evie and Luc's interactions were smile inducing. And I was left wanting to know what was going to happen between them next.

Every part of my body was aware of his. The strength in his hand, the hardness of his thigh, and the steady dancing of his breath, and we were lying together like we’d done this a thousand times.

There is so much I'm not even touching on, like the side characters I adored and the mysteries that were fun to figure out. But I don't want to give anything away. Just know that The Darkest Star was action packed while also having so many heart-felt moments, it was such an easy book to love. And rest assured, the book stopped at the perfect spot. While we learned some answers, there was still so much of the story we need to hear. And I for one can't wait to read the next book! Especially since I spent those last few pages with tears in my eyes and with the hugest smile ever. So yes, I definitely recommend The Darkest Star and if you're a fan of The Lux Series, this is a must read!

I wanted more than kissing. I wanted—
“What do you want?” he asked, his gaze holding mine.
“You,” I whispered, cheeks burning.
“You have me.” His thumb dragged along my lower lip. “You’ve always had me. Always.”

PS I would LOVE to read Luc's POV of this book! If that was ever an option I'd pre-order that book faster than I could blink!

His shirt read NO DRAMA LLAMA. That shirt was a lie. This boy was all about the drama llama.

PPS Luc's shirts were all kinds of awesome! I looked forward to seeing what he was going to wear next!

“Sit,” Luc said, and that one word was spoken in the kind of voice that probably left a trail of really bad decisions in its wake.
I sat.

✮✩✮

Groaning, I jabbed my fist into his lower back and was rewarded with another grunt. “I’m going to hurt you!”
Luc chuckled.
He actually chuckled as he walked into a room. I swore to God and the Holy Ghost, I was going to ninja kick him in the face.

“Then why didn’t you give it to me afterward?” I demanded.
A smirk formed. “Well, I was just messing with you then.”
“Oh my God.” I shook my head, glancing over at Daemon. “Are you hearing this?”
He held up his hand. “I’m just an innocent, enraptured viewer of this.”
A lot of help he was.

“I kinda like the arm-grabbing thing,” he replied, shoving his hands into the pockets of his jeans. “Very dominant of you. Maybe I’m the submissive type in, you know, the—”
“Shut up,” I hissed. “Why are you here?”
“How can I shut up and answer your question at the same time?”
I shot him a death glare. “Luc.”

I’ll go in parts. First one: I'm a fan of Jennifer Armentrout's YA so I picked up this book without reading the synopsis just by seeing this beautiful cover. Second: I rarely read a book with an alien, a vampire or other. Third: then you can deduce that I did not read the Lux series.

So when I came across with this new series in this universe with aliens I was very afraid I could not finish reading the book, but we're talking about Jennifer, right? And she managed to conquer me for the plot. At first, I found the narrative a bit slow, but when the story evolves and gains a rhytm like a film, I was simply engulfed by the book and could not quit until I discovered the whole mystery that involved Luc and Evie.

Bringing new members to enrich the plot , Jennifer creates a new suspense and left me eager to read the next books in the series.

Initially, I talked to some fans of the Lux series to better understand Luc.

Luc is wonderful from beginning to end of the book even with his arrogant and all powerful way, he is so so cute in my opinion and shows his vulnerability in the course of the book and ends robbing my poor heart .

Counterpart, I found Evie quite nauseous, it was difficult to connect with her and mainly to realize what she really felt for Luc, but since the narrative is only made by her, I have no choice but to try to understand her behavior. In the end, I started to understand even though I still did not think she deserved the fantastic Origin that is Luc.

I really enjoyed the suspense that surrounds the characters, the mystery that surrounds the events in the present and the past, I liked the tips that were released and for sure can only be clarified in the next books and especially I loved Luc's gang.

part of me felt like i was thrust into the middle of a long-standing series, and had no idea what was going on in the darkest star. it seems like there's a story before, and that story before informs the story now in so many ways. but even though you have this niggling feeling. and yet, this is fully enjoyable as a standalone.

the story really starts when evie meets luc. because the day she meets him is the day he stops staying away. even still he doesn't tell evie the whole truth, and you know what he's holding back. at least you suspect is, and it's really quite amazing when the truth comes out. basically evie and luc have this incedible journaey and it's wroth going along for the ride.

**the darkest star by jennifer armentrout will publish on october 30, 2018. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/st. martin's press.

I was approved for an ARC of this by Netgalley, so thank you to them, Jennifer L Armentrout and TOR.

I absolutely love Jennifer L Armentrouts writing, every time I pick up one of her books it's like reuniting with an old friend. I always adore the characters and the ROMANCE. I definitely need to pick up some more of her books. I also, definitely need to finish the LUX series, which I am inspired to pick up again now after finishing this book!

I really liked the characters in this book, most of them were characters that were in the LUX series which was amazing. Especially Daemon! The main character Evie is a really head strong, sassy main character. I love that she calls out innapropriate behaviour and stand up for what she believes in and always backs her friends. She is such a relatable character and I love that about Jennifers writing.

Luc is the typical bad boy with a heart of gold. He is dangerous but sweet to Evie. Its a trope but a good one. I am a sucker for this sort of character, he is incredibly similar to Daemon, with his attitude and sass so if you love on you'll definitely love the other. His back story was really interesting and I loved his turmoil with Nadia and Evie.

There are lots of side characters in this that I just loved, Heidi and Emery, I loved their characters and I loved their relationship. I liked Zoe and I can't wait for her to be in more of the books. I obviously love seeing Daemon, that's obvious! I really liked Evie's mother in this, I am interested to see what she is actually doing and if she is hiding anything else.

The plot of this book was great and works perfectly with how the LUX series was going. (I haven't finished it yet but I know roughly what happens). It talks about a lot of discrimination and prejudice against people who are different. I think this can be applied to society now. There is a lot of mention about, a select few bad people making everyone else look bad, which obviously isn't the case but is incredibly relevant to the real world.

The beginning of the book moves incredibly fast and is almost rushed but it soon starts to reduce the pace slightly whilst still being action packed and not at all boring. I love this story and it leaves so many questions which means I am already dying for the next book, which is unfortunate!

I really recommend this book, it is such a cosy read which just made me feel happy and emotional and all those good things.

Let's just say that I was left speechless after finishing The Darkest Star! From the beginning, I was immediately hooked from the first page. I'm just very excited that Jennifer was able to jump back into the world of the Lux again because this one did not disappoint. As a big fan of Jen's I felt that Luc and Evie's story was one of the best, plus we get to see our favourite characters as well. Thank you Tor Teen and Raincoast for allowing me to review one of my all-time favourite series.

The Darkest Star follows Evie, where the Luxen are living among the humans after the events of Opposition. When Evie meets Luc you can feel the chemistry between them, but also a feeling that she has known him before. Throughout the book Evie and Luc get to know each other and also the word Peaches will never look the same once you are done because their relationship is adorable. But the more she spends time with him, the more secrets that are being revealed about who she really is.

This book is one of my favourites of the year! The writing was perfect and I loved everything about it. Lots of action and romance that you will be swooning Luc. JLA is one of those authors that will become your auto-buys because all her books are written like you are there and are transported into the world she has created. Thank you Jen for bringing us back into this world!! Now I will be patiently waiting until the next book. Maybe a Luc POV?? If you are a fan of the Lux series go pick up The Darkest Star! You won't be able to put it down!

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Since JL Armentrout is an auto buy author for me, I jumped on the chance to read this ARC. I loved the prequel Lux series. Damon is one of the best book boyfriends ever and he and Katy are amazing together, but I must confess I never finished reading the series. (I know! Shame on me!;) I bought all the books but got behind in my reading so I planned to binge read them all and start over from the beginning. I only say this because I had not met Luc yet in my reading of Lux so I was afraid I’d either be lost reading this new series with him in it or spoil the Lux series for myself before I finished it.

I’m happy to report that neither of these things happened. While ideally the Lux series should be read before The Darkest Star, I think it would be fine to read as a stand-alone as well. I had no trouble getting acclimated to the story. And I loved returning to that world (and the Damon cameo appearances were so fun!) I loved the witty banter between Evie and Luc and enjoyed the tension in their relationship as I waited for the big plot reveal when everything came together and explained the mystery. Damon and Katy are still my favorite, but it’s also the first book in this series so I’m excited to see what happens in book two. There’s a slow build in the first part of the book, but then the tension increases until the reveal (which I did NOT see coming and I love being surprised!) and there’s plenty of drama and action to keep you engaged.

I love Jennifer’s paranormal novels so visiting her Lux universe again was so much fun. Not only that, it reignited my love for the original Lux series and now I’m even more excited to reread the first books and then finally finish the series. Initially this book didn’t grip me quite as much as the first Lux series book, but after finishing it I’m very excited for the next one. (I will add that I love reading YA books. But there are some pop culture references/name dropping and some vocabulary and dialogue that felt like it was trying just a tad too hard to be age appropriate or culturally relevant, but these were just a few very minor issues for me and did not ruin my enjoyment of the story.)

Whether you completed and loved the Lux series or are new to it and are starting with The Darkest Star, I think you will enjoy this book. I’m very much looking forward to the sequel.

Once again Armentrout has a winner. I've been waiting so long to get back into the Lux series/universe again and with a great MC like Luc. I loved him in the original series and was so happy when it was announced that he was getting his own series. After reading this i'm so excited for more! Armentrout has a wonderful way with words and story telling and i have never been disappointed in anything she has ever written.

NO SPOILERS!

It's been several years since I read the Lux series, and I loved returning to the world of Luxen, Origins, etc. again. The Darkest Star was a great start to the new Origins series and Luc and Evie's story, and I really enjoyed the storyline and characters. Jennifer L. Armentrout weaved a surprising, funny, and action-filled young adult paranormal tale full of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. It was entertaining from beginning to end, and although there were some things I didn't like, I'm definitely looking forward to continuing the series in the books to come.

ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

ALL THE STARS!!!!!

THIS WAS SO FREAKING AMAZING!!!!!! I shouldn't be surprised that I loved this book, after all it's a spinoff of one of my FAVOURITE series.

I always loved Luc in the Lux series. He was a freaking bada** kid and he brought so much laughter and heart-wrenching greatness to the story. So you better bet that I loved him in this! He was AMAZING. New book boyfriend no doubt!

The sacrifices he made and the love he shows others is so incredibly wonderful. He is genuinely a great guy and I love him to death!!!!!

Now Evie. Oh my goodness Evie. She has so much to deal with in this book and I can only applaud her. I really want to see her delve into her past and discover who she is so I can't wait for the next book!

Also we had some cameos from Archer and Daemon and I am NOT complaining!! I do wish that we see the rest of the Lux gang in the next one though. But the scenes that we did have were great!!!!

Overall I just loved this book so much!!!!! It gave me the Lux vibes again so it was very nostalgic. Honestly I just felt like I revisited a world that I loved so much and it was just beautiful!

As always JLA has done it YET AGAIN!

Being back in the world of Luxen is everything. I mean come on, she writes about sexy aliens. How can you not just be in complete awe? The Darkest Star was everything I wanted and more. I devoured this book like a $2 taco on taco Tuesday, no joke. There’s instant action and angst right in the first chapter. The sparks don’t stop there though, they continue right through the whole book until you’re swooning at the last page and kicking yourself for finishing it so fast.

There are so many surprises and secrets in The Darkest Star and yet by the end of the book I still have many questions. I know Jennifer is going to continue to pack the punches (literally and figuratively) with this series and honestly I cannot wait to get my greedy little hands on it. Well, is it greedy if you love it so much?

At first with our main characters you meet Evie and Luc and think well here’s another innocent girl meets bad boy story. However, not really. Yes, Evie is ultimate good girl however we see her finally start breaking rules right in the beginning...busting out of her shell so you can say. Luc on the other hand is absolutely cocky however you quickly find out an all-around amazing guy. I highly enjoyed these two together and ship them all the way.

Overall, Jennifer L. Armentrout hit another one out of the park. I am really not sure she’s capable of disappointment. Drama, laughs, and sexy times are all present in her books and The Darkest Star is no exception. You absolutely want to grab this one when it comes out next week!

I wasn't sure what to think of this book when I first started it. BUT WOAH! This book was AH-MAY-ZING! I got sucked in really quickly and zoomed right through it!

The character development in this book was awesome! Luc reminded me of Rhysand from ACOTAR, who is my all-time-favorite book bf, so of course, I liked him almost immediately.

I also liked that even though this book is about 👽, there are also many comparisons to today's society. People are arguing over and protesting 👽rights sounds all too familiar. Also, the comparisons to mixed relationships being dangerous. Even though things have come a long way for biracial relationships, we still have so far to go.

I absolutely ♥ ♥ ♥ed this book! I was so mad when I got to the last page then looked on GoodReads and found out that I don't even know how long I will have to wait to see what happens next.

One thing that will make the wait a little better... This book is the first in a new series, based on the world from the author's Lux series. I started reading it immediately after finishing this book.

While you do not have to read the Lux series to understand or ♥ this book, I do recommend it. I am finding that reading this book before reading the Lux series gives some spoilers away.

However, I think the author did an awesome job world building in this book and in the Lux series. She did so in a way so that readers that started with this book could perfectly understand the world, while not being redundant for those that had already read Lux.

Again, if you have not read the Lux series yet and think you might want to at some point, I do recommend reading it first. However, if you don't ever plan to read it, dive on in to this series!

I received a copy of this book from the publishers, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.

Another stunning book by Armentrout... from the writing to the characters, to the overall plot, everything was perfect and drew me in from page one. The pacing was slow at times, but it never took away from my enjoyment, and I never found myself bored or wishing for it to speed up.
Overall loved this book and it will stick with me in my heart for a long while!

I gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed.

I loved the original Lux series and I just felt like this didn’t live up to that standard. Katy and Daemon will forever be goals. Their relationship, their banter, their sass, their inside jokes, all of it was golden. Evie and Luc seemed like a watered-down version of that. I didn’t really enjoy the romance and I was a bit disappointed by the plot twists. I totally called the first reveal from like page 8, and the other one disappointed me for other reasons.

There were a lot of nods to the original series and a lot of moments when they brought up the original characters, but it still felt like it was ripping off a lot of the original. Or at least, like it was trying too hard to get you to remember the good ol’ days with the original gang so you wouldn’t notice a lot of the recycled story. Even bits of the dialogue was taken right from the original series and I really didn’t like that. Like the whole joke with the adverbs, that’s Katy and Daemon’s joke (if you’ve read the series you’ll know what I mean). And Luc was constantly quoting Daemon and saying “I once knew a guy who said... (whatever it was that Daemon said)” as if that made it any more acceptable to take Daemon's best and sassiest lines!

In the end, I still don’t regret having done the absolute most to get my hands on this book. Still, I have to say that I didn’t love this book. I loved the original series and still do. I even liked Luc in the original series when he was a cocky 14-year-old with too much power and an attitude problem, more than I did in this one. Still, I do recommend this one if you’re a fan of the original series. And yes, this is one of the times when I think you need to read the original series before you get into the spin-off. None of this story would make sense without it.

5 - "Sometimes the truth is worse than the lie…" Stars!

Any book that takes me back to the Lux universe, makes me happy, and Luc and Evie’s story was a really great return. Although to be honest, anything that gives me a little more page time with my favourite alien ever; Damon Black is generally going to make me happy.

"You don’t fit in here…"

Filled with the usual twists and turns that Armentrout’s YA series generally carry, and a blossoming sexual tension between the leads The Darkest Star was the beginning that I was absolutely expecting for the Origin series in those respects, but the author kept me on my toes even more with some of the things that played out in the latter stages.

"What do you have to lose..?"

"… Everything."

This is definitely one of those sorts of books where you can’t say much about the plot, but if you have read the author before you won’t be disappointed, and if you haven’t but are looking for a well-crafted PG-13 Sci-Fi read, then this one will definitely be up your street. Although with no firm date for book two, or even a title at this point I am sort of wishing I had waited until the full series was out in the wilds because patience has never been one of my virtues.

"You were all my good memories…"

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I LOVE Jennifer L Armentrout and I absolutely LOVE the Lux series. I was beyond ecstatic when I learned we would get more of this world! I will say the only thing that held me back from a 5 star review was that it took me until 47% into the book to figure out or rather remember who these characters were. I'm sure that's partly my fault with my less than stellar memory of characters -even ones that I love - and since I read so many books and have read a ton since the Lux series. BUT when It did click HOLY CRAP I LOVE LUC he was one of my absolute favorite side characters! I was all in at that point and couldn't have loved it more. Chock full of action and snark with a little bit of romance on the side I just love that combo! I am so excited for more in this series it is sure to be another one of my faves!

I liked what is really going on to this book, like I’m get easily attached to it every time I read and it’s not easily to put it down! I swear! As a first reader with aliens, it’s pretty good and I have so much emotions drawing to my head. I liked to imagine the characters’ troubles, their abilities, their appearances and everything. The revelations between the human and alien parties are just really unexpected. Shocking to know the whole truth about Evie and Luc, I was like“Woah okay. Hold on there. I can’t hold that truth quick” kind of thing. Funny thing that while I’m reading it, I’m like creating a movie scene for this book with aliens and stuffs happening in the book. It was also a fast paced read, because every chapter in the book have this gripping moment that you don’t want to miss and I liked it that way! My favorite part is where Evie and Luc met on the first time because that one is really unexpected turn and that scene really make me smile and told myself that “oh yeah this is a great story right here”.

4.5
I would like to thank Netgalley and Tor Teen for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

As popular as this author is I have never read anything by her. (Hanging my head in shame.) This being a spin off to another series I’ll definitely have to read that series.

Luc – ummm yes!!! He’s everything that you love in a lead male character. A leader, strong, mysterious, bossy, and steals your heart.

Evie – I loved her as a female lead. I thought she had a lot of character development and grew so much in this book. She had a lot to deal with and learn and I think she handled it well.

I think what I liked the most of this book is how it seems to be a parallel to what we are living through now. I’m not sure if that is what she was going for but it’s something I kept thinking about while reading.

Don’t hesitate to pick this up.
