A Lolita-esque story for the #MeToo era - an explosive and thought provoking story about an illicit relationship between a grown man and a young girl. Spanning 40 years and told from three different perspectives, this is a difficult read that opens up important conversations about family, abuse, and the effects of trauma on future generations. Thoughtfully written and masterfully executed.

A thirteen-year-old girl (Daphne) begins a physical relationship with a 30-something family friend (Ralph). Daphne always viewed their affair as an entirely consensual romantic relationship. Decades later, though, she has the sudden epiphany (with her own pre-teen daughter in mind) that she was in fact taken advantage of, groomed and abused. Meanwhile, Ralph is now a famous composer who is dying of cancer…and he’s about to be taken down for this (and other) illicit relationships. PUTNEY by Sofka Zinovieff is a super timely, extremely provocative novel – it’s Notes on a Scandal meets #MeToo with a touch of Lolita.
