The Patriot Bride by Kimberly Woodhouse is Book 4 of the Daughters of the Mayflower series. It is set in the beginnings of the Revolutionary war. We find the war challenging alliances and pitting family members against each other. Can love survive if one keeps the focus on God for protection and guidance?
I have read all of the books in this series and find each of them to be exciting and intriguing. I don’t want to put them down so they are a fast read for me. The author blends actual historical events with fiction in a seamless way to create a story that draws the reader in. She also explains at the end her research and where he has made up specific details to help the story flow. The characters are true to life and exhibit bravery in the face of war. It is so easy to dislike those who are not trustworthy and try to work both sides to get the best deal for themselves. Scripture is quoted throughout the book but not in a preachy way; it is used as the character might read it in her life. It in no way takes away from the story line. This book is well written and would make a nice gift for a friend who loves reading Christian novels based on history. I give this book a 5 of 5 stars.

Rich with historical details this page-turning story takes readers on a journey through time back to the tumultuous beginnings of our county. Neighbors and even family find themselves on conflicting sides as a new nation is created to ensure that it’s people continue to enjoy the freedoms they anticipated enjoying when they left their native homeland to carve out a living in this vast new land.

With delightfully unique characters, and an exciting plot line of espionage and mystery readers are sure to find much to enjoy in this latest addition to the Daughters of the Mayflower collection. Readers who haven’t yet enjoyed the earlier stories, will not feel lost jumping right in with The Patriot Bride. However, I’d encourage you to make time to enjoy the other stories as well, as they are equally delightful!

Faith Jackson is a feisty heroine with sharp mind, and strong opinions. She is independent and able to take care of not only herself but of those in her circle of influence. Her efforts to further the Patriot cause lead her to volunteering to carry secret correspondence to a spy deeply entrenched in the Loyalist camp. But will she have to sacrifice more than she first thought for the sake of the Patriot cause?

Those who enjoy Colonial period stories will not want to miss out on this page-turning experience. I give this book 4.5 stars and encourage you to pick up this story to enjoy at your earliest convenience.

I tried really hard to love The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse, but for some reason, I just could not get interested in this book. At first, that is. However the more I read, the more I enjoyed the story that took place. So, here is the main reason why you should give this book a chance.

The history is real. If you love history, then you will appreciate the historical details included in the book. The author even includes real historical people such as George Washington and Benjamin Franklin as friends of her characters. Since it is set during the American War for Independence, there are plenty of historical facts one can learn about the war, especially about spies and communications during the war. So, if you are a fan of history during this time, the history alone should make you want to read the book. I would recommend this book to historical fiction fans.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is fourth in the Daughters of the Mayflower series and I cannot wait for the next book to be released. The books in this series are easily read as stand-alone stories and are such a great collection of stories about the history of the United States. Woodhouse has done a great job with the history and setting enabling the readers to feel like they are right there in the middle of the scenes. The mix of fictional characters with historical figures makes the story interesting and authentic. I enjoyed seeing the fictional accounts of Ben Franklin and George Washington. The sweet romance between Faith and Matthew is engaging and delightful to watch unfold despite the difficulties they encountered with Boston being embroiled in war. Faith is an independent and feisty young widow, having tragically lost her parents at age 12 and then her husband shortly after their marriage. Matthew is a brave Patriot who works tirelessly to fight for the freedom of the colonies from the tyrannical rule of England. I really enjoyed Faith's relationship with her servants and their loyalty to her. The author adds some humor to the story with the introduction of an egotistical and headstrong would-be suitor for Faith. The characters are vivid and lovable and their growth and maturity throughout the story is realistic. The Patriot Bride is replete with information about the history of our nation and the struggles the Patriots found themselves facing as war with England began. The author makes the story intriguing with action scenes and suspense. And with a strong thread of faith in God throughout, the book is also inspirational as the reader can see how God's hand is at work in the lives of the individuals. As noted, I look forward to reading the next book, The Cumberland Bride.

The Patriot Bride is book #4 in The Daughters of the Mayflower series. The series is written by various authors, and each story has it’s own unique feel. This one is my favorite so far. (Read in one sitting!)

Some of my favorite stories are those that blend fiction with history and have a spiritual thread throughout. I love learning something new and each of these books has taught me so much.

The main characters, Faith and Matthew, are interesting, flawed (the secondary characters as well) and I was quickly drawn into their lives. The story is filled with suspense and danger, and carries spiritual themes of freedom, faith, and courage.

This was an enjoyable, light, easy read that I finished so fast! The pace was constant and the banter enjoyable. While predictable, it was still an enjoyable experience.

The Patriot Bride is set during the colonial era in the year of 1752. We start by following 10-year-old Faith Lytton, who happens to be friends with none other than George Washington himself.

Fast forward to 1774, when Faith Lytton Jackson is all grown up and a widow. Managing a ladies’ group, she is asked by her dear friend, George, to assist with a dangerous mission. While partaking in this task, Faith meets George Weber, a spy for the Patriots who has infiltrated the Loyalists. Faith has been tasked with coding letters and delivering them in the name of the Patriots.

Anthony James is in hot pursuit of Faith and her inheritance. After stalking Faith and finding her with George, he is determined to get even with Faith. George Weber, mentee of Benjamin Franklin, is imprisoned by the Patriots for “working for the Loyalists”. Faith and two of her loyal employees, work to help George escape, but they are too late.

What happened to George Weber? Is there something growing between George and Faith beyond a work relationship? What trouble lies ahead if they’re not too careful? What is Anthony Jameson really after in his pursuits of Faith?

The Patriot Bride by Kimberly Woodhouse, is the fourth in Barbour Books The Daughters of the Mayflowrr series, and the second this author has written for the series.

As a lover of history, The Patriot Bride was such a fun and informative read. Faith Jackson is a young and wealthy widow, and as such has had to put off all suitors as she found they were not interested in her, but rather her wealth. Orphaned at a young age, Faith is a ward of the young George Washington, though there is little difference in their ages, perhaps ten years or so.

As an adult, she resides in. Boston and is a staunch Patriot. She, and a number of like-minded women, have formed a ladies society group in order to provide assistant in the war efforts; assistance such as sewing uniforms; knitting socks, and other similar activities.

During a meeting, a stranger appears at the home of Faith Jackson; a stranger who has a very dangerous proposition. Would the group consider becoming a transporter of secret encoded messages for the Patriots? A spy. An offense punishable by death. This person would be responsible for learning the code in such messages and passing them to the next spy down the line. As the leader of the group, and the only widow, determines that it is she who can put in such as position, as all the other women have families to care for,

Enter William Weber, spy and compatriot of none other than Benjamin Franklin. It is William Weber who is assigned as Faith’s connection. It is William that Faith begins to meet at night, in places not inhabited by people and often cold, dreary places. Meeting Faith in a dank, smelly barn, William finds her to be intelligent and trustworthy. He also finds her very attractive.

As William and Faith develop a friendship with each meeting, they find themselves lingering which is quite dangerous. Friendship begins to turn into the first butterflies of love, yet each is not 100% sure if the other is trustworthy.

One Anthony Jameson, a loyalist, is determined to marry Faith. He becomes quite the nuisance and increases the danger level for both William and Faith. Personally, I found his description to be rather creepy and he made my skin crawl. In today’s terms, he would be called a stalker.

As the danger increases, Faith continues putting her life on the line, and when Matthew mysteriously disappears, her consternation knows no boundaries.

Although the main storyline is subject to the author’s imagination, one can glean quite a bit of history and the daily lives of those in this time period. I highly recommend this book.

The Patriot Bride by Kimberley Woodhouse is another excellent book in the series Daughters of the Mayflower. The reader is immersed in the beginning of the American Revolutionary War. I enjoyed the characters both the famous and the unknown ones. God’s provision, joy, grace, belief, trust, laughter and love are important thoughout this story. History, romance, spies, war, women, faith, prayer and the Bible make this an exciting book. I hope to read all the books in this wonderful historical series. I would like to thank the author, the publisher and netgalley for making this book available to me to read and review.

The Patriot Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower #4) by Kimberley Woodhouse is rich in history. It is full of political intrigue, spies and romance. A rich widow holds Bible study meetings with a group of women who are eager to help with the Patriot cause in whatever way they can. A Patriot, Matthew, becomes a loyalist so he can get information to the Patriots, so he becomes a spy. An important part of our history told in an exciting story. Looking forward to more stories in this series!

Kimberley Woodhouse has written an excellent historical fiction novel that is exciting and uplifting. It’s one of those books that you can’t wait to finish, but are then sad when you do. The research for this book is stellar and adds greatly to the storyline. I’ve read several historical fiction books that included George Washington and Ben Franklin, but this is one of my favorites. The author brings them to life in a personal, realistic way. My admiration for all that these men accomplished grew through my reading of this story. Although the characters of Matthew and Faith are fiction, their story adds just the romantic touch that’s needed to make this book an all-round great story. Faith is one of my favorite characters so far in the Mayflower Bride series. This book has no foul language or embarrassing scenes.

If you are reading this series, don’t miss this one. If you haven’t read any of the other books, this is a great one to begin that series.

It's the beginning of American Independence and we follow Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber as they volunteer to become spies for the Revolutionists. Matthew goes "behind enemy lines" to gain information from the Loyalists to bring back to the Patriots. Faith will code and deliver letters between Matthew and a secret source that brings them to her home. This is how Faith and Matthew's fast growing friendship forms. They must rely and trust each other to keep from being caught because the stakes are extremely high!

One of my favorite aspects of this story is that because of the time period that it takes place two of the supporting characters are George Washington, Faith's very dear childhood friend and later guardian, and Benjamin Franklin, Matthew's mentor. It was such a fun aspect of the story to have those two extremely well known people from United States history play a pivotal part in this story.

I've read each of the four books in the Daughter's of the Mayflower series, have enjoyed each one immensly, and The Patriot Bride is no exception. This story is full of wonderful history along with the fictional story that helps bring it to life. I am SO looking forward to the next book, The Cumberland Bride!

The Patriot Bride is the fourth instalment from the Daughters of the Mayflower series. I have loved each one of the books from this series so far and this one is no exception. I enjoyed this Revolutionary War era story. Especially, when the main characters, Faith and Matthew, interacted with George Washington and Ben Franklin.

I give The Patriot Bride 4 ½ stars. Such a sweet and clean historical that I highly recommend for those who love historical fiction.

The Patriot Bride is an early/pre-revolutionary war historical fiction. Faith Jackson, a friend of George Washington and a young widow does her part to help the Patriots. She and some of her friends are doing what they can for the cause when they are asked for a volunteer to carry messages to a patriot spy. There are a few volunteers but Faith ultimately agrees to be the messenger. She does not want to risk the other ladies and since she has no husband or family she feels she has less to lose. War brings out the worst and best in people and this is evident in The Patriot Bride. Faith has a suitor that stalks her because he wants her money to increase his social standing and in the meantime, he puts her and the patriot spy in danger. But in the end love and the Patriot cause see them through. A fun read though a little slow at times.

This was a lovely younger audience read of a couple, Faith and Mathew, and how they met during the build-up of the war for Independence in the 1700s. Both Faith and Mathew were spies and met as message carriers and fell into very chaste love. The characters around them were well-known to history: George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere. The story was engaging if not addressed toward a somewhat younger crowd. Scripture within the book and the wholesome feeling of the characters practicing to help each other were all good reminders for younger readers to set their life goals to. I enjoyed the book but was left wanting more. How Faith handled an undesired suitor was hysterical and made me laugh out loud. Many fine points to Ms. Woodhouse' writing.

Well researched, author Kimberley Woodhouse does a great job of weaving together fact and fiction to make history come to life. You’ll recognize many of the characters in this story, and meet some new ones.

Learning to put God first, and to trust again, gives this a timeless draw. The descriptions of people, places, and events are intriguing and add to the plot of the story. With suspense and a light romance, this book has something for every history lover.

An adventurous story, that promises danger and intrigue. It's delivery has potential, but fell somewhat lacking in expectation.

Our heroine of the story is presented right away as a determined strategist at a young age--the perfect future candidate for aiding the Patriot spy ring. Her early friendship with George Washington and scenes from his perspective are a really enjoyable bonus; a historical figure blended well into a fiction story. We don't meet our handsome spy hero until later in the story.

I would have liked to experience more of the spy ring and what Matthew actually did as a spy, as well as the women's involvement and how it actually worked (the danger and intrigue of the spy life is what makes a story like this exciting!), beyond the couple scenes that just gave the reader a tiny glimpse. The plot moves very quickly, jumping from month to month in anticipation of thickening danger, which is being set up through most of the book.

The story is carried strongly by "telling" rather than "showing," which was a little disappointing. Backstory to the characters is told and feels repeated. I couldn't immerse myself in the story that I didn't get to experience for myself. I longed to connect with the characters and understand them, but being told about them was as far as I could get. I felt like I was looking at them from a distance. What makes them tick? What are their strengths; their weaknesses? What makes them sad; angry? What are their greatest struggles; their deepest longings? Character profiling 101, but these questions could not be answered for me. Instead, I kept asking myself, "Who are these people?"

The development of the romance felt flat, as with the rest of the story--I was not truly experiencing its development. It was just...there. But there were moments now and then that slowed down enough to experience a moment of tenderness; bravery; goodness; hope.

The style of writing would make it an ideal travel read, because everything happens very quickly. All-in-all, an average story, but not one I would encourage on a reader.

Faith also has a suitor who is trying to play both sides. He's only interested in her because of her money. As the war becomes imminent they start meeting more. Matthew apologizes for putting Faith in danger after a close call. Faith enlists her friends and servants to keep her suitor at bay. Matthew confesses to Ben when Faith doesn't come for several meetings. They enlist his sister as a go between with Faith. A first kiss is exchanges. Faith must hide when a soldier shows up. her suitor shows up with an ultimatum. She stays calm and denies it all. He ambushes her when she's returning from a trip visiting her relatives. Faith is put under house arrest. but escapes with the people she's protecting. Faith finds out what her butler is up to.. Her admirer goes to George and threatens Faith and is arrested. Matthew is captured with other Loyalists but can't reveal his true mission. His condition keeps getting worse and he keeps thinking of God and Faith. Meanwhile Faith has arrived at her home in Virginia and send her butler searching for information on Matthew. Faith. her maid and butler come up with a plan to rescue Matthew only to be too late because Ben has already succeeded. Faith gets devastating news. On their way home they come across Matthew. A proposal is made and a wedding takes place. A year later they are visiting Martha Washington when she receives a letter from George with a copy of the Declaration of Independence and their addition to the family a George Benjamin has the same birthday as American Independence..

A wonderful story of love adventure and how God will protect you. A woman who is unique in her time and survived to find the love of her life. A man who will make a sacrifice for his country and the people he cares about. And how God guides them through these situations of danger and intrigue to only enrich their lives.

This is the fourth book in the Mayflower series, which follows the descendants of one couple that met on the Mayflower boat and the stories are centered around important American history. This concept is so interesting because every book in this series features a different author. This time it was by Kimberley Woodhouse, and we follow Faith Jackson and Matthew Weber in the beginning of the American independence. Matthew is a Patriot spy in the middle of the Loyalists, and his only line to the cause is Faith, who acts as a messenger. Both are at great risk but they find they want to prolong those dangerous meetings... they also have friends in high places: Faith is George Washington’s ward and Matthew’s friend is no other than Ben Franklin.

Overall it was quite an enjoyable read. What I really liked in this book is actually the friendships. Faith is quite active in a women’s group and when trouble comes, she discusses it in the group and asks for help. I know this seems normal, but usually heroine’s want to solve everything themselves, and I think it’s healthy to show it this way. I love how Faith wants to help everyone, and she is quite creative and funny with her solutions. Not as creative as Ben I have to admit lol. Both main characters have strong faith, which shines through their struggles. We have a slow burn romance, which felt sometimes a bit stilted, especially the dialogue. And the villain is just not very villainous... I know he’s supposed to be shrewd and evil but instead he is just whiny and plain dumb. His arc ended weird too in my opinion. That really took away something from the reading experience, since the villain can make or break a story. For me, there also wasn’t enough conflict to keep it interesting. But the banter, the friendships and the staff, and most of the romance made up for that flaw. Long story short: I did like this book and I’m happy to continue with book 5!

This book started out slow, but it really picked up. The book follows Faith, a young woman, in the beginning of the United States. Faith was a strong independent woman that loved her country and wanted to do what she could to fight for freedom. I loved seeing the development of romance in the middle of a war between Faith and Matthew, a spy posing as a Loyalist for the Colonists. The dedication of the men and women of this time period was shown well in the story. I never really thought about all that the colonist had to go through while fighting for independence. I highly recommend this book to those that love sweet romance in the middle of trials.
