One of Linda Castillo's best books. This mystery is not easily solved and the Amish ways almost prevent Chief Berkholder from doing so.

Another wonderful book in the Kate Burkholder series. Linda Castillo does such a great job of transporting the reader to Amish Country, Ohio. I think this is the best of the series. I will definitely be recommending this one! Thanks for the advanced reader copy.

I love the Kate Burkholder series. This was one of my favorites. For such a small town, Kate Burkholder has her hands full with all the crime that happens in and around Painters Mill and has been shot/injured so many times.

Kate is called out to investigate a barn fire, but it turns sinister when the body of an eighteen year old Amish boy is found inside. Kate investigates Daniel's murder and keeps hearing how well-liked and hardworking he was by his friends and family. Looks are deceiving and many secrets start being revealed.

There were many twists and turns. I didn't suspect who was behind the fire and Daniel's murder until the end. I also thought it was someone else who was scaring Neva. Kate starts sympathizing with the Amish girls due to her due to her past. I always like when Sarah shows up and hope Kate will have more interactions with her family. I'm hoping for a wedding in the next book or two. How doesn't everyone know that Kate and Tomasetti are a couple? They live in a small town and are always together.

I definitely recommend this book and look forward to reading more about Kate Burkholder.

Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and the author, Linda Castillo, for a free electronic ARC of this novel.

Another amazing book in the Kate Burkholder series from Linda Castillo!

This was yet another fast-paced read from Linda Castillo. We are introduced to a few new characters, and we learn about the 'Beachy' Amish. Linda delves back into Kate's past, but also forces her to think about her future. While Kate still needs to learn to NOT GO ANYWHERE ALONE, ever, the story is very well done, subtle hints along the way point to the suspect, but enough doubt creeps in to keep you guessing. The ending was plausible and not forced; unlike a lot of recent books, it was well paced and delivered the 5 Ws in a compelling way. I cannot wait to read #11 in the series!

There is nothing better in the world than knowing I have a new Kate Burkholder mystery to read! This time around, Kate is called out tp the local Amish community when a barn burns to the ground, and the body of Daniel Ginegrich is found inside. Kate doesn’t believe this was an accident and begins looking into who would want the man dead. He appears to have no enemies and Kate is stymied as she runs up against the wall that separates the Amish from the “English”. Kate knows the community well, she once belonged to it, and she can’t help wonder if there is s more sinister reason for the community’s silence. This is without doubt, one of the best mystery series being written today. The rest of the world just falls away when I read Castillo
