I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I really wanted to enjoy this but I was a little disappointed. Kate had strong plans for her future but one guy comes along and she throws that all away. Nathanial is a broken jerk of a man. He made me so mad for about 80% of the book. He never really apoglized for using Kate and that made me angry. Just couldn’t get over the characters to enjoy the story.

A great fun historical romance with a strong female character. It's funny in parts and highly enjoyable to read. I will be looking for more from this author.

This was a really entertaining read. I loved the main characters and the sub-characters were great too. The story is full of emotion and drama, and the witty banter between the main characters was wonderful. I was rooting for Wesley and Kate to end up together. There was so much going against them. I was so connected with the story that I got very emotional in a few places. There might have been a few tears shed. : ) It was a wonderful story, and I highly recommend it.

A Mistress for Penndrake by Tammy L. Bailey was an amazing read and I absolutely loved it.

Matchmaking at its finest, A Mistress for Penndrake will keep you captivated from start-to-finish with the heated and exciting exchanges between Wesley and Kate. Ms. Bailey’s writing style is exceptional as she smoothly progresses through the chapters and keeps things flowing throughout her story with no lag or confusion. Kudos Ms. Bailey!

An enjoyable read. I liked the characters. They made me care what happens to them. The story had a lot of emotional roller coasters. There was a lot of love- all different kinds of love. A good read.

I have mixed feelings about this book. So many things didn't make any sense to me like the hero's premise that if he ruins Miss Kate Holden, he'll get his ancestral home back from her cousin who won it in a card game. How was that suppose to work? Wasn't the property entailed to the title? Throughout the book, I found instances that left me scratching my head. I've read hundreds of regency romances and never once have I ever heard of picking up house guests at 7:00am especially since they only lived a mile or two away. Even with the relaxed atmosphere in the country, not many of the ton would even be awake at that hour, never mind being ready to travel. In another chapter the Marquess of Wesley leaves his house guests at his country estate while he travels to London for a few days. What? He leaves these strangers at his home? I also didn't like how Lord Wesley would barge into Kate's bedchamber whenever he wanted to. A gentleman would never enter a woman's bedchamber alone and especially not with out knocking.

I did enjoy some of the banter between Wesley and Kate, but that wasn't enough to save the story for me. All of the above criticisms just had me scratching my head throughout the story and really detracted from the plot.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley. What follows is my opinion and mine alone.

A Mistress for Penndrake by Tammy L. Bailey is a historical romance set in the regency era. Think Pride and Prejudice. I actually like historical romances in this time period and thought it would be an easy read to go through.

I wasn't disappointed.

I found this book to be enjoyable and easy to go through. The romance is there with a few twists that I wasn't expecting. However, that said, I didn't necessarily feel drawn to either character all that much.

Lord Wesley's thought process seemed a bit out of whack. His idea of ruining a young woman's reputation to get his property back just didn't seem plausible. On the other hand, Kate Holden also didn't seem all that believable. Her decisions to put herself into Wesley's grasp just to grab letters that didn't really seem to hold much value also felt a bit silly. That said, they both had similar decision making skills that basically says to me that they were meant for each other.

The book itself is well written and I did go through the story without wanting to put the book down and wanting to go to another book instead. The romance was sweet if a little out of place in times. All in all, it was a good book and not a bad read.

Final rating: 3/5

Overall I enjoyed it, but I was also annoyed a lot of the time. Westley just couldn't make his mind up. I know I wouldn't have put up with him for as long as Kate did. Kate was also indecisive, and as a pair it was hard to tell what they felt.

This is a fun and entertaining historical read. Wesley wants his family’s estate back but will have to marry Kate in order to do so or does he have other plans. This read is one roller coaster ride with plenty of drama. I liked the characters as well as the story. The characters are fun and have great chemistry. A good read.

I was really excited to read this book but then I just lost interest in reading it. I think I'm burned out on historical romance novels right now but I plan to read this book in the future.

This was a book that I really wanted to love. But, it just didn't pop. Before Lord Wesley's father died, he gambled away their ancestral home. The new owner is now blackmailing Wesley into marrying his cousin. Lord Wesley is the cousin of the woman that broke Kate Holden's heart.

Throughout the book, Wesley and Kate never directly talk, they are always verbally dancing around, yet they fall into instant lust when Wesley visits Kate's home. It just didn't work for me.

I received a complimentary ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. Thank you.

Lord Wesley is a character I've learned to adore. He is so sure that no one will dictate what he does or does not do that he's willing to go to any length to stop it. However, he didn't count on developing feelings for Miss Holden... That was a lovely reading.

Yes, usual book, girl meets boy, boy is a blaggard and a highwayman .......
But I enjoyed it😊
It was beautifully written, characters were well thought out and I could easily lose myself in the highlands with the descriptions that the author used.

Elizabet is betrothed to someone that’s she’s really not keen on. But after running into a highwayman all she wants is revenge ..... he’s shamed and ruined her, and her families reputation is now in tatters.
Hate eventually into something else, but tragedy is only a moment away.

John maybe a dandy and a regular at the kings court, but he’s on a mission .... to ruin the two men he holds accountable for the death of his dear brother. And one of those men is betrothed to the other mans daughter. So after she literally falls into his arms, he hatched a plan to ruin reputations, but plans start to unravel ...... he starts to fall for the feisty heiress, she seems to good to be true.

How will Elizabet react when she finds out who her “masked” highway man is ? How will she react when she realises she was only a way to get to her family and fiancé ?
And will John come to his senses before he loses possibly the best thing he has ever had ?

I received this ARC from Net Galley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Received in exchange for a honest review.

-Takes place at Penndrake where Wesley is trying to woo Kate. He invites her cousins to his place so he can get to know Kate and get her to want to be his wife. The ruse is the cousins and their family because those girls are vying for him as well.

-Wesley is a standup guy. He is trying to undo all his father did. His love for Penndrake and it’s people shines through. Here is is forced to do something he wouldn’t think of so he can keep Penndrake. While he knows this, he still goes forth because of his love of Penndrake. What he doesn’t expect is Kate to be the way she was.

-Kate was quiet but also very smart and loyal. Before meeting Wesley she is oblivious of how she affects others and gets a letter from her cousin that starts the cat and mouse game between her and Wesley.

-Story is a cat and mouse between Kate and Wesley. She sees who he really is and falls for him but fights it. Wesley sees Kate and encourages her to be bold and herself. He helps her see she is more and should want more. He supports her and respects her. Asks her opinion and counsel. Chemistry between them is definitely there but she is doing her darnedest to keep from falling due to the letter. Wesley’s rep is misconstrued due to his father’s mistakes. Her cousin took him for his dad but Wesley is honorable and when a twist comes into play he takes responsibility and doesn’t try to change anyone’s opinion. This changes it all andall his efforts go kaput. I loved that about Wesley, he cared about his mom and Penndrake but his mom meant more to him and so was willing to lose it all to keep her from hurting. He also was willing to let go so Kate can be happy.

-Revelations made have you smile but also surprise you but it is Wesley’s actions after that have you swoon. He is a great guy.

-story is Adventurous, entertaining and sensual and keeps you wanting more of Wesley and Kate as they fall in love and the journey they have to get their HEA.

This book was really fun to read! Kate and Wesley were so amusing to me. Their interactions were always full of sparks and tension. I loved watching them find their way to each other and move past all the events and secondary characters determined to keep them apart.

A story worth escaping into for several hours!

A Mistress for Penndrake
by Tammy L. Bailey

BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY..... a FIVE star read that is entitled to the good read banner. I was undecided on what to write... This book is a slow starting leading path into each curve. I loved the twists the turns the suspense in the romance. I enjoyed the characters the way each was portrayed and the writers way of setting the scene where the readers are enthralled. It was a read that I did not put down until I finished! This author is definitely one I will be watching for in the future for she has totally captivated my attention with this book. Her style of writing truly shows a wonderful gift and I can only say buy and enjoy! I received an arc of this title via Netgalley. My review is done on my own with only my opinions giving freely here. Truly a worth while read! Regards Anna Swedenmom

Miss Kate Holden isn't about to fall prey to any man ever again after having her heart broken years ago. However, when she meets the Marquess of Wesley, there's no denying her attraction, even though she's been warned to stay away from him. Will Kate fall for the gorgeous lord's charms or will their shot at happy ever after never happen?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. Bailey, but it's certainly not going to be my last. Really, the way this story started drew me in immediately because the heroine is very much like Cinderella with her family always making her do something that they should be perfectly capable of doing but expect someone else to do for them. However, the hero is certainly not her prince in the moment they meet. Instead, they see each other as the enemy in the way he sees Kate as someone he can use against her cousin while she's determined to listen to her cousin's warning, which is evident in how she interacts with him in the beginning.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, as this book encompasses the enemy to lovers and revenge tropes. Will the hero be willing to use the heroine to get revenge once he gets to know her? Will the heroine figure out the hero's motives before she gets hurt? Moreover, the heroine is resilient, feisty whenever she's around the hero and I liked how determined she was to resist the hero, even though resisting him wasn't easy because he was so confident and charming. I also liked how the hero stood up for the heroine when it came to her family and they're expecting her to fall in line with whatever they want her to do. Why can't they take care of things for themselves instead of always expecting the heroine to do such menial tasks like they ask of her?

While the hero, I could understand why he wants revenge after what he learns about his father and what the man did. Furthermore, I liked how far he was willing to go to get his revenge and the fact that the heroine didn't make things easy for him. Certainly, she provides him quite the challenge right from the moment they meet. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is that he didn't give up on trying to win the heroine over. Surely she wouldn't be able to resist his charm forever.

Overall, Ms. Bailey has delivered an utterly fantastic historical romance in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance sweet, heartwarming and had me loving every interaction between this couple; and the ending had me liking the heroine's determination to push the hero to admit how he really feels instead of throwing their chance at forever away. I would recommend A Mistress for Penndrake, if you enjoy historical romance, the revenge trope, the enemy to lovers trope or books by authors Stacy Reid, Darcy Burke, Eva Devon and Jess Michaels.
