I can honestly say I was gripped from the first page...I could not put this down.
The Date was absolutely brilliant I was on tenterhooks the whole way through thinking I knew who the assailants were and evrytime I was wrong ..you will not expect the last few chapters I was gobsmacked and that it how the genre should be.
I hate spoilers in my reviews because every reader should have to find out for themselves so I’m not giving any away
Expect the unexpected

I was given an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review by Bookouture, Louise Jenson publishers. This is something I am more than happy to do.

Where do I start with The Date, it was a tense, gripping read right from the very first page. I read this whilst sitting by the pool in Sicily and what a good job, the sweat was literally pouring off my forehead with fear as opposed to sweat from the heat - nobody could tell I was a gibbering wreck reading this.

I loved every single word of The Date it was incredible. Louise Jenson has stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball right out of the park with this one. It was like reading a living nightmare - I had heart palpitations and read quicker and quicker to get to the bottom of the story, wanting to save Ali from the living torture she was enduring.

Imagine waking up with the worst hangover imaginable, not knowing where you are, how you got there or physically able to drag yourself out of bed. When you do you don't recognise the face looking back at you or have any recollection of how you have got to that situation - a totally incredible, unimaginable, gut wrenching situation.

Ali is separated from her husband Matt and is persuaded by her flatmate and friends Chrissy, Jules and James to go on a blind date. She is reluctant - she still wants to be married and is in denial about how she has arrived in this situation - she had a loving, close relationship with husband Matt until his character changed almost overnight - within months he had distanced himself from her and she leaves the marital home to give them both some breathing space.

With each and every book I've read of Louise Jenson the intensity has ramped up another notch, she is one of my firm go to authors that I would read without even reading the blurb - she never fails to disappoint, that is until the last page is turned and I know I have a long wait until I can get my next fix. I can't recommend this book highly enough, huge thanks to both Bookouture for the opportunity to get an early read and to Louise for her writing.

Alison is a recently-separated young woman who goes out on a date one Saturday evening with a blind date. The next morning Ali wakes to no recollection of the previous nights date, a huge head bump and when she looks in the mirror she doesn't recognise the face staring back at her! Following a trip to hospital with her brother, who she also doesn't recognise, Ali is diagnosed with Prosopagnosia or 'Face Blindness' meaning she cannot recognise her own face or the face of anyone else in her life. Things get steadily worse when Ali starts to receive sinister messages and it appears that someone means her harm - but who? And why?
I really enjoyed the fast pace and twists in this story if a little far-fetched at times. Nonetheless it is a good thriller with plenty to hold the attention and in my case an extremely quick read.
Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for the advance review copy.

***I received an e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for this opportunity.***

This was a great book. The story was captivating and kept me interested throughout. Can’t wait for more from this author.

I really did not like this book. It took me a really long time to get into and the plot just didn't grab my attention. I am not a huge fan of the memory loss trope, however, this did have an interesting spin as the character couldn't recognise faces. This should have added more tension and the reveal should have been more shocking but the reveal just didn't have the shock factor that I was expecting.

The book seemed to have a lot of build up with a lot of lengthy descriptions that I didn't think were particuarly necessary. The ending and the final reveal felt quite rushed. I also didn't really like the main character or connect with her.

Overall I was disappointed with this book as I have read previously from the author and enjoyed her work. This one just didn't work for me unfortunately and I found it to be full of cliches and be very predictable.

The Date was a date unlike any other. This date ended with a head injury and a whole lot of questions and fear. This premise was good and i'm glad it held up throughout the story. Lots of secrets and lies. I had a feeling mid way through that i knew what was happening and whilst i got some of it right, i didn't get the whole thing and for that i'm glad. Kept me intrigued.

Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book just didn't work for me. I found the story just kept going on and on - and got a little repetitive. It took me a long time to get to the 50 % mark and i just didn't finish. Thank you for allowing me the chance to try a new author.

Actual rating: 2.5 out of 5

I know I'm in the minority here but I thought it was slow-paced and I was bored with this book. I found the book too wordy. There was so many parts where the sentences just kept going and going before the end of the paragraph. There was a lot of going back to the past that was unnecessary and was not relevant to the story line. I had to skim through these pages. However, the plot was intriguing and so different from the regular, old amnesia story. Prosopagnosia, who knew that was such a thing?? There was plenty of suspense but I was able to guess the villain early on.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for a copy of Louise Jensen's "The Date" in exchange of an honest review.

My litmus test for an amazing book is one that causes me to give up sleep to keep reading. THIS is one of those books.

Ali wakes up from a night out unable to recognize her own face. She is hurt and has blood on her hands, yet no memory of what happens.

As the story unfolds, you can see that someone close to her is responsible for it all and they are enjoying the ability to torment Ali without her knowing who it is. Even if she were to see them now, she is unable to recognize faces...even her own.

The author does an amazing job with this story which unfolds in such a way that the person behind all of it is not who you might have first guessed.

This, in my opinion, is Louise's best book! Ali, recently separated from her husband decides to go out for the night on a blind date. She ends up hurt and her life is not the same again! Who has it in for her? Is she really in danger from a man she can't remember? I could not put it down, I didn't know who it was until it was revealed. She has had a tough childhood where her father was in prison and her mother died of a severe illness, the only person she can rely on his her brother.

4.5 Stars

Wow, was this ever good! It’s one of those books that you can’t stop reading, and hen can’t stop thinking about once you’re done.

Ali goes out on a blind date, and wakes up not remembering anything. You will go through all the feelings while trying to figure out what happened to her. A fantastic thriller!

Thank you to the publisher, the author, and Netgalley for the ARC!!

I absolutely loved this book. After reading Louise's previous titles I had high hopes, it certainly didn't disappoint.
Hooked from the very beginning right up until the end. If you ever find yourself in a bit of a reading slump, pick up one of Louise's books and it'll bring you right back out of it.

Incredible!

Slightly far fetched but a book of twists and turns that you simply have to keep reading to see what happen !

A night out with her friends which ends badly for Alison, very badly. A bit of a slow burner this and only seemed to get going once Ali began to work things out. She is one very annoying character who never did the right thing at the right time and came across as pretty dense. This is the sort of book where everyone is a bit murky with something to hide, apart from the dog! It intrigued me enough to carry on reading, mainly to see how long it would take Ali to discover who was after her and why, which was actually quite obvious. A very interesting storyline and a great cover.

"The Date" was my first book by this particular author and I really did enjoy it.
I was rapt and invested from the very first instance here.
A mystery told from Ali's and her enemies POV, an enemy who we have no idea; along with Ali the identity of.
So during this, I was glued to the emerging picture with an almost obsessive compulsion.
Watching with a rapt fascination usually reserved for my current favourite TV show.
This was, in my opinion, psychological warfare at its very finest and I can't recommend "The date" enough, especially if you're looking for something to compel and confound you all at the same time.
This one's is a tricky one to describe without giving the whole game away so I'm not going to go into any great detail here.
This story's blurb really does sell itself, how could you not want to delve deeper and discover more after that intriguing description.
Also using the medical condition Prosopagnosia, which to put it in its more understandable form Face Blindness, was absolute genius.
Adding this unique aspect to "The Date" took this for me to a whole new level.
Such one-off circumstances created a scenario where anything and everything is possible, no matter how remote and improbable that occurrence could actually be.
This also had more twists and turns than a fairground rollercoaster and I changed my mindset on a hairpin frequently with the sheer abundance of red herrings thrown in my path.
These diversions only purpose that I could ascertain was to confuse and muddy the already churning waters I was currently occupying.
The author really has done a remarkable job of weaving her mysterious web here, managing to entangle me within the threads of this tale with her oh so vivid imagination.
This was a fantastic read that's really a no-brainer for me to recommend; loved everything about it.
Happy to give this one my seal of approval.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of "The Date" of which I have reviewed voluntary.
All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
