Great romantic read with low drama. Fast paced novel with a great build world. Perfect read for an afternoon. Arc provided by Netgalley

I had a hard time with this book, the first half was very repetitive and the second half plunged headlong into the absurd.

Giles Templeton, third son of the Earl of Wexford meets Miss Suzanna Blake at the Duke of Bedford's wedding and falls in love at first sight. He will have her, he never fails...

Suzanna is attracted to Giles, but her mother insists that she marry a man with a title and as a third son Giles is not that man. She fights her attraction and tries to push him away - but he is determined to win her. This is the gist of the first half - him chasing her and her pushing him away - but she never tells him why she is looking to marry a title.

They attend a house party and finally, Suzanna gives into temptation and they make love - in fact, she insists - because you know, she can't marry the man she loves and wants the memory (eye roll). Giles thinks this means she has finally accepted the inevitable - but she tells him, it changes nothing, she will only marry a man with a title. He then suggests a wager - she will marry him and fall in love with him and if she doesn't he will donate to her favorite charity. Game on!

When they return to London, Giles steps up his pursuit - but the arrival of her parents brings his courtship to a swift end. When they finally are able to talk alone, she tells him, she wants to marry him, but her mother will forbid it, he tells her he will win and not to worry. But when he misinterprets a meeting between Suzanna and Lord Pemberton (her mother's choice for a son-in-law), he admits defeat and leaves London.

Weeks go by before he pulls his head out of his backside and decides to fight for the woman he loves, but is it too late??

Honestly, I have read this plot before and it has been done better - it seemed completely contrived and implausible - if they were really in love, they would have eloped - period. And since when is the handsome, wealthy, landowning with an income, son of an Earl "unsuitable" - Seriously?? Her parents where over the top and almost cartoonish, her mother was a complete witch and her father a wuss - I kept hoping they would run away together - just so they didn't have to have her parents in their lives! And why her father loved her mother so much is a complete mystery to me - her mother flat out said that she would have been happier if she married someone with a title - I almost felt sorry for her lovelorn father. Giles and Suzanna were both likable, but I was annoyed that Suzanna didn't tell him why she had to marry a title, keeping it from him made no sense and made her look bad - especially after she slept with him. The book has wonderful secondary characters, warmish love scenes and I did enjoy the ending and Giles' shift from "winning" to "earning" - for me that was the best part of the book. So in the end, the book was OK, but not a keeper. It is part of the Lords & Ladies in Love series, but can definitely be read as a stand alone title.

An entertaining regency romance! I love how the phrase "reformed rake" is the polite way of saying he's a bad boy lol. The characters were nicely developed, the story moved at a good pace, the progression of their relationship felt a bit too pat at times, but not enough to put me off enjoying the book overall

I'll be honest: I was skeptical. I'm a fan of regency romances and nothing gets me to click faster on the Purchase button than "reformed rake" so while there were a lot of reasons to hop right into Wagering for Miss Blake, I found myself a little concerned that the description brought to mind no less than 10 other titles.

Still, I found a lot of the plot compelling. The dialogue was a touch stinted and the falling in love felt a little too formulaic, but there were twists and turns that made it an enjoyable page turner. If you're someone who enjoys a simple story done well, I'd recommend adding this to your romance collection. If you're looking for a genre-breaker, you may want to keep it moving.

Looking forward to more from this author!

Okay even with the repetitiveness inside this book, I sincerely enjoyed every word. While the author is as always a very talented one, she has written a book with humor and romance and of course a little unbelievable circumstances. However, that being said she makes it work. I found it a little slow going at times but it always picked up quickly and really, it just gave me a good feeling overall reading this story. So boy the book and just enjoy it. I was given this ARC via NetGalley. All opinions written here in this review are totally my own. Regards, Anna

This is another fantastic Regency romance with a rake who is reformed by love. In this story it is Mr Giles Templeton, the third son of the Earl of Wexford, who has a great reputation for having the Midas touch when it comes to investments but a real rake when it comes to women. However, when he first meets Miss Suzanna Blake he finds her irresistible though she is considerably more reticent as her parents desire her to marry someone with a title. He wagers her that he will make her fall in love with and marry him, promising to donate a sizable fortune to her favourite charity should he lose. However, she has never before gone against her parents' wishes . . . . who will win this wager of love?

This is a lovely, fun read as Giles, to whom things usually come so easily, suddenly has to really work to earn the love of Suzanna. Can he convince her to love him? Can she put aside her parents' dreams of a title and choose to follow her heart? This story has great characters and lots of laugh out loud moments, especially at the antics of Giles as he strives to win Suzanna's heart! A delightful story to escape into.

I requested and received a copy of this book via NetGalley without obligation and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Fun story about Giles and Suzanna, he being a wealthy third son, and she the daughter of an imperious mother. The two meet at an event during the ton season, and despite Giles’ reputation as an unrepentant rake, he is immediately possessed of a desire to marry this young woman. Giles’ upps the ante by suggesting a wager of sorts....
Suzanna finds Giles’ increasingly interesting and attractive, but knows her over controlling mother has one specific requirement in a marital prospect and that is that he hold a title. The question is, for both of them, do they give up or go around the meddlesome mama’s machinations?
The plot has several interesting characters, humorous moments and banter, and heated longing. It’s an entertaining story which I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend. I also am interested in two other characters and hope they have their stories told as well.

Rating 3/5

I liked this but I didn't like it - it was your typical historical romance complete with falling for a guy your parents don't approve of because he's not titled. But that's all the plot was. There was no real adventure or mystery tied to this. It was just a main focus on Suzanna fighting her heart for Giles because she's encourage to marry a title man. So of course I knew the HEA was going to happen but there was no real excitement leading up to it.

Regency Romance. If you like the Forbidden Romance Trope this will be for you! I'm discovering I am more of a Contemporary Romance fan but I did enjoy this book. I love a HEA in whatever form:)

This story was a lot of fun, and I am excited to read more books by Hutton. There were a few slow chapters on the back end of the book, so the pacing wasn't the greatest. But the banter between the H and h was witty and a lot of fun.

I always enjoy Callie Hutton's books. Wagering for Miss Blake is part of her series Lords and Ladies in Love.
Giles and Susanna were both likable characters. He's a third son and she has an overbearing mother. (We all have crosses to bear). The writing is well executed and the characters are well developed.
I felt bad for both of them. He was instantly smitten and she was stuck, but in the end it all worked out. Sorry for the terribly short review. I will try to add more later...

Disclaimer: I received an e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A historical romance that is fourth in the series. Can be read alone, but recommend reading in order. I quick read with fun characters.

Wagering for Miss Blake was written by Callie Hutton, and is the fourth book in her Lords & Ladies in Love series of Regency-era historical romance novels. I haven’t read any of Hutton’s other books, but I am always excited to discover new authors.

Giles is instantly smitten the moment he meets Suzanna, but she informs him that he can’t marry him because she can only consider men with titles. Giles, the third son of an earl, is so smitten that he isn’t particularly offended by this rather mercenary declaration, and he soon discovers that this is her parents’ rule, not necessarily what she wants. Giles, ever the optimist, bets Suzanna that he can make her fall in love with him.

Suzanna feels torn between her feelings and her parents’ wishes. Giles is the first man she has ever felt a connection with, but she knows how important it is to her parents that marry a man with a title. She tries to avoid him, but he is rather persistent in his attempt to persuade her to change her mind about him.

I found myself feeling sorry for Suzanna. It’s clear that her mother is overbearing, and the ironic part is that Suzanna’s father is not titled, so that makes her mother somewhat hypocritical for insisting that Suzanna rule out any non-titled suitors. Giles, for what it’s worth, is a very patient soul. He knows that he can reveal information that would necessitate a marriage, but he chooses to win his wager fairly.

There is, a Big Misunderstanding to create conflict, but it could have been solved quite easily with a simple conversation. I thought the way in which Suzanna handled the resolution was unfair, considering that she created the problem in the first place.

I would recommend Wagering for Miss Blake. This story was cute enough, and it’s fairly light in tone. There is plenty of cute banter, and Giles is a sweetheart. I’m looking forward to reading more of Hutton’s books in the future.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was great addition to the series. I loved this so much. I have throughly enjoyed this series a great deal. I can’t wait for more. In this addition we have a woman that just wont go against her parents wishes and the third son of an Earl. The story was well done and I loved the characters.

Another good one from Ms Hutton. It was not a favorite theme for me-wagering a relationship, but she pulled it off. I do like the characters and the repartee innwhich they engaged- which made the read spicy and fun.

While I liked the character of Giles Templeton and his pursuit of Miss Suzanna Blake, I missed the build up of a romance when he fell in love with her at first sight. Other than her looks, I didn’t feel there was anything else behind it considering she kept giving him the set down for not being titled.
Suzanna’s inability to stand up to her mother grated on my nerves after a while. Once Suzanna stood up for herself, I began to like her but it happened too late in the book.
The ending reflected what I typically enjoy by the author but since it took a while to get there, it wasn’t my favorite in the series.

Mr. Giles Templeton, third son of the Earl of Wexford, first saw Miss Suzanna Blake at a wedding and decides in that moment that she's the woman he'll marry. However, Suzanna, will only encourage men with a title. This sets up the battle of wills with Giles confident that he'll win her hand in the end.

This wasn't a bad book, but I didn't care for how arrogant Giles was in assuming just because he has decreed he'll marry Suzanna, that he would actually be able do it and Suzanna wasn't honest with Giles about her directive of marrying a man with a title. She let him and everyone believe that she was shallow in looking for a husband. There was a lot of internal dialogue throughout the book that was repeated over and over again. That got old pretty quick.

I have read other books by Ms. Hutton and while this one wasn't my favorite, I'll certainly read more of her books.

This was a hoot. I loved how sassy Suzanna was to him. In the time era this takes place in having a sassy female lead who knows her mind is great. Giles was awesome with his tenacity and how forward he was in his respect of woman.

Giles is the perpetual bachelor. As friends were getting married he was the one everyone thought would not fall in love. That is until Suzanna. She attracts him with her mind, body and soul. He sees beyond the outside entrapments and likes what is on the inside. He likes her feistiness. They have great chemistry and the banter between them is flirty and vivacious. Giles knows his mind and what he wants and she is it. Having been one who has had all his risks pan out having resistance is new to him and he loves the challenge.

Suzanna wants Giles but he has no title. Her mother, who is really a snob, won’t approve so she does everything to dissuade him. ONly she is secretly loving their time together. The season heats up for these two and we have a book that is flirty and fun. Until her mom comes into the picture and suddenly Suzanna becomes a wallflower compared to before. Giles has his heart crushed and he does go to lick his wounds only it is his valet who puts him in his place and has him see the truth. He learns to fight for what he wants and earn Suzanna’s hand and that was so entertaining at that house party. Watching him with Suzanna was awesome and exciting. They were bucking the system and showing where they wanted to be.

A great story where the man earns the woman’s hand and we get some entertaining light moments, great banter and flirtatious wit as well.

It is nice and a good escape to jump back in time with this author being the vehicle. Romance would be at a different pace but chemistry is chemistry. With the fire and passion this author creates with her characters it is a different speed. Giles and Suzanna take you along in their tale. I so enjoy seeing a "confirmed" bachelor go done all in the name of love. This one also spurred my interest with the wager and curiosity spurs it on as you go. Humor and romance make for good combo. I got carried away by this one forgetting the time with it being a rude awakening when the end I reach it is now.

Love historical romances and this one did not disappoint!!
This a story of Suzanna, who was told by her mother, under no certain terms, that she will marry a man who has a title. It does not matter that Suzanna only wants to marry for love because of what she has seen among other couples who do not marry for love.
Giles, the third son, has no title to his name and he is quite happy about this. He meets Suzanna and makes a wager with her in regards to love and marriage.
I enjoyed the secondary characters and loved that they were supportive, fun and that Suzanna's aunt was even a little sneaky (but in a wonderful way).
I will certainly be reading more from Callie Hutton!!
