Note that I had no idea this was the second book to a series. Although this had been the case, the story was still easy to follow and was quite entertaining. In tradition to "The Princess Diaries" (except the main character is a prince), the story follows Daniel (an illegitimate son and heir to a throne) and Madison (an immigrant with a dream).

It was interesting to read about the thoughts of a secret prince and the other POV from Madison. They were similar to each other as they were both hesitant to act on what they wanted: their hopes and dreams as well as what they felt for each other. Unfortunately, the romance did not satisfy me, nor did it want me to keep reading. While the book had been fun to read about (at least for a while), I wasn't a fan of the romance trope used in the novel. I ended up feeling bored and it just didn't seem genuine to me. Ironically, there just wasn't enough chemistry (in my opinion).

There was also a moment when I had no interest in reading about these characters. After a while, I grew exasperated with the juvenile voice (and sometimes thoughts) of these characters. Hence, I realized that this book just wasn't for me. In general, the romance and plot was predictable and formulaic. It just didn't stood out to me. Even if this was the case, I'd recommend this story for the friendship aspect and the influence of "The Princess Diaries" with sports (hockey).

Daniel had madison on the back of his bike and he knew to drop her off at the corner as Daniel would rather run fifty wind sprints with Coach Zabinski then face Dr. Myong when he sees his daughter on the back of his bike Daniel knows even though they hang out a lot Madison would never allow herself to get mixed up with a guy like him. Madison was the assistant trainer for the Falcons hockey team which Daniel was on, Daniel was alternate captain of the team. Daniel wants to ask Madison out but he seems to get tongue tied when he tries. Madison wants to go to Julliard School In NYC and has to convince her parents. As they want her to study medicine after graduation. But Madison wants to be an actress. Daniel has no idea Madison wants to be his girl. Madison saw how Daniel's eyes light up on the ice which he commits to hockey just not to girls. Though normally Daniel’s sister Evangeline/Eva sees his him once a year and eva has never come to Visit Daniel . Daniel didn’t think Eva ever left Europe but she said she came to bring Daniel home -the future King of Eldonia. Madison parents said no about NYC and they would have been paying for her schooling there and expenses. Being a doctor made sense , meant security, prestige , and following in her parents footsteps. To them acting would mean instability. Daniel’s father had been king of Eldonia and had an affair and that Daniel was born as a result. The Queen hated Daniel but if he didn’t return to Eldonia the kingdom would go out of royal the lineage he was illegitimately a part of. Eva talked madison into helping to talk Daniel into going back to Eldonia and become king. Eva said she was sure she could get Madison an interview for a popular tv show. Daniel needs help to make himself acceptable to become the king of Eldonia and Madison agrees to help him any way she can.
I enjoyed reading this book. It was a fun, quick, enjoyable book that made me laugh out loud at times which is rare while reading. I didn’t like Eva’s mother the Queen was trying to marry off her sixteen year old daughter to a Duke that Eva thought was a monster under his smooth talking. I liked Madison and Daniel together. I did find this predictable but that was ok I still enjoyed it. I liked the characters and the ins and outs of the book and I recommend.

Just One of the Royals by Leah and Kate Rooper is book 2 of the Chicago Falcons series. Daniel Sacachelli is the quintessential, All American , motorcycle riding, hockey playing bad boy. Except he's not, really. Madison Myong comes from a successful immigrant family and is destined to become a Doctor. Except she doesn't want to. Each is the best friend who wants to be with the other, but can't make the first move.

When Daniel's secret is revealed, that he is the bastard prince of Eldonia he needs to clean up his image in order to save his family and his kingdom. Madison steps in to help him and their fake relationship, that both had wanted to be real, is born. I enjoyed the real life issues that each of these characters grappled with. What their wishes and wants are versus what their family expects and needs. On the surface these characters are very different, but inside they have so much in common. They need each other, and not just for the superficial reasons.

Overall I enjoyed Just One of the Royals by Leah and Kate Rooper and felt it was fun story which used the idea of a hidden prince plot as a way to tell a story about finding yourself and balancing personal desires with greater commitments.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read and it was quick. I loved the fact that we were introduced to this secret male prince who's in love with his best friend! I haven't read the first book in the series and while there was some reference to the first book, I believe that this one can be read as a standalone.

I enjoyed the ending and that the rules were rewritten so that we had a feminist touch to the story! I'm a big advocate for women being able to hold power! I heard that the third book will be about Eva - Daniel's little sister - so I'm looking forward to that one because I simply adored her character in the book!

When I first requested the book, I had no idea that this was a second book to a series.
The characters were ok but unfortunately I didn’t connect with any of them at all. The plot was predictable and the story was a bit boring for me.
I didn’t feel the romance believable at all and I felt that it was a bit forced

Just One of the Royals is the second book in a series and I didn´t read the first one yet. But, it can be read as a standalone.

I liked the team, and the friendship between all of them. Daniel´s family was nice.

It had a good plot, and could have been a great story, but it just fell flat, kind of forced. The reason for the fake relationship was weak and Daniel and Miranda were more friends than anything else.

I didn’t read the first book in this loosely connected romance hockey story, but I don’t think it was necessary. This pair of KMUKS (Crazy, mixed-up kids) are best friends of the previous book, and although both couples appear in each other’s stories, they stand alone. I asked for it because I am a bit of a fan of YA hockey romances, and there was enough about Daniel's team to keep me happy. But of course, it's primarily about Daniel and Madison.

Daniel is a great character, and his growth through the book an important element. He really has a chip about his illegitimacy and fair enough too. As far as he knows, his father, the King, has not bothered to form any kind of relationship with him. Visiting every summer means he has bonded with his younger sister Eva who is the only reason he agrees to consider becoming King of Eldonia.

Madison brings welcome diversity, although the trope of her (Korean) parents wanting her to do medicine and her having to convince them of her actual dream, is worn thin now. But still, she’s a take-charge kind of girl, and protective of Daniel, which is lovely to see.

I was annoyed that they clearly had feelings for each other, but were too reluctant to take a chance. The fake relationship gives them leeway to pretend to express their real feelings, and that was cute to watch, but dear me it was also agonising when the mis-communication got out of control.

The scenes in the fictional European country are fun, the villain suitably creepy and narcissistic, and the plot twist easy to predict, but it moves at a sprightly pace and ends satisfactorily. If romance is your thing, and you like that added to your hockey stories, then this is the book for you.

Thanks to Entangled Teen Crush and Netgalley for the advanced copy. It was released on June 4 (sorry I am a bit late).

Just One of the Royals by Leah and Kate Rooper is the 2nd book in The Chicago Falcons series. Just One of the Royals is a sweet, fun, and delightful YA contemporary romance and part of the Entangled Teen Crush series. Daniel Sacachelli loves hockey, but he has a secret. Madison Myong and Daniel have been best friends, but is there anything more? I love this genre, there is something so innocent about first loves. I love the quirky people and situations in this book, and watching the characters grow. I found this book to be a quick read, and recommend it to all readers who enjoy a YA sweet romance.

I received this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really liked this book but I felt the ending was a bit abrupt and expected. I loved the main characters though and the romance that developed between them.

i loved the first book in this series, just one of the boys, which hit on tropes i love. but just one of the royals was not as good. mainly because the princess diaries twist on the main character being the only legal heir to a made-up kingdom did not work for me at all.

and so like even though i liked daniel and madison a lot. this royal-in-plain-sight story just couldn't draw me in. for some reason, i couldn't suspend the disbelief. and this is weird to me because i've read and enjoyed many a royal from a fake country story. i think the issue is that the world these characters inhabit was so contemporary and real in the first book, so it was hard to make this leap in book two.

it's still cute and fun and all about hockey. but yeah, i'm kind of bummed that i didn't love it as much as i wanted to.

4.25 - Delightfully Cute and Fun Romance with a Royally Adorable Twist!

This book was a quick, lovely, and entertaining friends to lovers story with plenty of sweet, heartwarming and laugh out loud moments. It was enjoyable from beginning to end and I cannot wait to read the other books in the series.

Just One of the Royals by Leah and Kate Rooper is pretty much Princess Diaries, but instead of an awkward and shy teenage girl turned princess, we have an adorable and charming star hockey player who’s secretly a prince, but wants nothing to do with being a royal…let alone be the king of Eldonia. Daniel just wants to be a normal teenager and maybe finally find the courage to tell his best friend, Madison, that he wants more than just friendship. But, when his half-sister, Eva, comes to Chicago to convince him to claim his birthright as king, Daniel must make some tough decisions that will change his life forever.

I read this book in less than 24 hours and was pleasantly entertained the entire time. I love friends-to-lovers stories and the prince/royalty trope made the plot even more interesting for me. The writing was easy to read and engaging. The characters were quirky and really intruiging. I thought the friendships and familial relationships were endearing. Madison and Alice were definitely friendship goals and I loved how they were always there for each other. I also loved the bond between Daniel and Eva. Even if they were millions miles apart, they were still very close and would do anything to make each other happy. The guys on the hockey team were pretty great too and I loved their team spirit. I wasn't too keen on the romance and didn't totally swoon over Daniel and Madison, but the romance was still cute and sweet. I thought the ending was heartwarming and the sneak peek for this next book definitely got me excited.

With a fun and lighthearted storyline, amazing relationships, great team spirit, charming characters, and cute romance, Just One of the Royals will have you smiling the entire time. It’s sweet, funny, and will teach you a thing or two about honesty and doing what truly makes you happy.

If you enjoy romance and friends to lovers trope, then this cute contemporary with a royally adorable twist might just be perfect read for you!

This was a light read for sure. I had not read the first book in this series, and didn't feel like I missed out on anything. It was a short, somewhat predictable read, but enjoyable. Sometimes in the midst of my reading, I need a light, enjoyable read like this. This book came along at the right time for a nice breezy read. It wasn't the perfect book, but it filled a reading slump, and got me back on track...so for that, I enjoyed the book.

Thanks to Negalley for the ARC!!

With all the excitement of the Royal Wedding, I have been more interested in reading books about royals, particularly secret royals, who have relationships with normal people. Just One of the Royals fit this bill nicely. Not only is Daniel a secret prince but he is also a hockey playing bad boy. Throw in the fact that he is secretly in love with his best friend who pretends to be his girlfriend to help show his country he can be King and you've got a book that is right up my alley.

I really enjoyed this book and the characters in it. It's the second book in a series but can easily be read as a standalone. The friendships in the book are probably my favorite part. I'm looking forward to reading more from these authors.

Leah and Kate Roper are new authors to me and given that I love hockey romance I’m amazed they hasn’t crossed my radar before now so make no mistake I will be going back to read book one in their Chicago Falcons Series as well as checking out other reads from these very talented authors.
The Chicago Falcons are a junior hockey team and this series is all about friendships and loves formed as we start start to make our way in the world. This group of friends are loyal and caring and will do what ever is needed to help a teammate even travelling across the pond to protect him. Daniel Sacachelli loves hockey and to be honest that’s all he is really interested in but he has a secret - he is actually the prince of Eldonia and his secret is about to be discovered when his stepsister arrives in Chicago telling him he needs to come home and rule his Country...... but is Danielle willing to give up his life for a country he has only ever visited for summer vacations. I loved the characters in this book, I loved their loyalty and the passion they shared for hockey, all in all a great story with wonderful characters that I for one want to get to know more about. Quick easy fun read.

As a contemporary fan I love the friends to lovers trope as well as secret royalty. Come to find out this book was going to give me both! Madison and Daniel are both such fun characters who each have their own issues to deal with. They both are in love with each other, but don't think the other feels the same. Madison and Daniel have a lot of fun moments because of this. Being best friends doesn't mean you know all of each other's secrets. Madison finds this out the hard way when she hears that Daniel is actually a prince. I loved the story behind this and the fact that it was a prince this time and not a princess. Also, the authors wrote this book from both POVs and this doesn't happen often in YA. Not ones I have read anyways. I read this book in one sit and was sad that it was over. Daniel only has the summer to prove he is fit to be King and Madison will help him by pretending to be his girlfriend. We all know that this will somehow go wrong. Daniel has great friends and a family who wants to see him get where he needs to be. When I finished Just One of the Royals I had a smile on my face. It was very predictable at times, but sometimes that's just what we need. All I know is I need to get my hands on the first book soon and hopefully the third one when it comes out. I was hoping Eva was going to get a book and at the end we find out she will! That little sneak peek wasn't enough!

Fans of Kiera Cass's THE SELECTION series will enjoy this new novel, although it doesn't have the heaviness of Cass's novels since her characters faced issues of cast, competition, etc. This book is part of a series, but I'm not sure it stands out enough in my mind from the sea of romances that I read for me to remember to pick up the sequel in the fall. It doesn't leave you in a cliff-hanger like THE SELECTION, which is nice. The book was a light-hearted, quick read that was fun even though I thought a few aspects of the plot was a little far-fetched. There was one line in particular that stood out to me about halfway through the book that made the "kingship" resolution quite obvious to me, although the authors threw in a plot twist near the end that I didn't see coming. Overall, an enjoyable read with a rocking cover that quite timely debuts not long after the most recent royal wedding!

This was such a fun light read. A real feel good book. Sure, the HEA was a given, but it the way to it and the how made me laugh and I will definitely read the next book.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing!

This Princess Diaries like story will make you smile. It may be all fairytales and hearts but it's the sweet that makes it fun. Also...hockey. Who doesn't love a bunch of big sweaty hockey players?!?!

The B@stard Prince has a lot to learn. With the help of his friends, he learns more in a few weeks than he ever has. Being yourself is far more important than being what everyone else wants...but the Prince isn't the only one learning this lesson.

Just One of the Royals was a fun and cute book to read during my royal wedding hangover!

One of my favorite things about this book was the focus on friendships! All the characters had such strong dynamics with everyone around them, and it warmed my heart so much! The authors were great at creating believable and fun friendships between everyone.

The romance in this book was very sweet and adorable! The romance was supposed to be the trope of a fake relationship to something more, which is one of my favorite tropes! However, the romance felt more like just friends to lovers. I didn't think the fake relationship idea was really developed all that much to make it seem realistic. The romance was still a lot of fun, but I just wish I would have seen a little more of that fake relationship trope throughout the story.

Overall, this was a quick and enjoyable read! If you are craving some royal romances just like I was, then I would recommend checking out this cute book!

This was a really cute YA romance. Bad boy Daniel is best friends with straight laced Madison. Only thing is that Daniel like likes Madison but doesn't think the girl with doctor parents will go for the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Unbeknownst to Daniel, Madison is crushing really hard on him also. When Madison finds out Daniel is a prince, she tries to help him change from his bad boy status to the king he is meant to be.

This was a cute story. I thought it was sweet when Daniel was trying to tell Madison he wanted to be more than friends. I was like if she would just let him get a word in he can tell her how he feels. I liked Daniel. I thought he was a little hard on himself but knowing his relationship with his father, I see where his insecurities came from. I liked Madison even though I thought she was written kind of stereotypical. She was a sweet girl and very loyal to her friends. I liked this story but I wish there was more one on one time with Daniel and Madison. When they finally went to the country of his father, they had the couple from the first book with them and I think that took away from some of the one on one time with this book's couple. I really loved Daniel's relationship with his sister but that nickname she gave him was annoying. I think it only annoyed me because it;s close to my name...lol. Overall it was a sweet read. 3 stars
