The Prince and Me with a hockey twist. Daniel Sacachelli just wants to play hockey and keep one tiny little secret, that's he's a prince. His best friend is Madison Myong, they both harbor secret feelings for each other, but neither one is willing to put it out there. When the secret comes out, Madison offers to go with Daniel and be his pretend girlfriend to win over the people of Eldonia. The more Daniel learns of being the prince, the more distance it puts between the two friends. This was a cute read, I just wish the characters would've been a year or two older.

This is a lovely teen romance with plenty of surprises along the way. To start with Daniel Sacachelli is the illegitimate son - and heir -of the King of Eldonia but no one at his school knows this. There he’s one of the star hockey players and best friend of Madison Myong. Actually he’d like to be much more than her best friend, but she has very controlling parents and he has a poor reputation so they’d find him totally unacceptable. Little does he know that Madison also wants to be more than his best friend but doesn’t feel able to take the next steps to change that. Well, that was true until she overheard that he needs to save the throne for his family, so he needs help to make himself fit to be King. Now that’s something Madison can do - she’s a talented actor and has helped others take on different roles convincingly in the past. So now, the two are off to Eldonia, posing as a couple. Will they manage to fool everyone? Can she really help prove him worthy of becoming King? Will fake become real?

This is a fun, light-hearted and entertaining read, with plenty of laugh out loud moments, some farcical aspects and great friendships and team spirit to help everything work out in the end. A quirky, quick and enjoyable read, just don’t take it too seriously! I hadn’t read the other book in this series but will be endeavouring to do so in future.

I requested and was given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

This was adorable and full of heart. I love royal stories and this one was so sweet and I really enjoyed it. I found myself loving the characters and the world created by this author. Leah Rooper is a new to me author, but I look forward to reading more from her. I can't wait to see what else she has for us.

I guess I hoped for another version of the secret-prince trope, but this one wasn't bad.

Daniel is secretly a prince and now his father, the king of Eldonia, died, his sister shows up asking him to take over the throne or else she'll have to marry against her will thanks to some very old law. But Daniel knows his popularity isn't that high, so he gets the help of his secret-crush Madison, who suggests pretending they're a thing so he can show commitment.

I really wanted the actual prince trope. I mean, Daniel is really a prince, but he wasn't raised like one, he's almost his father's dirty secret and never thought of going anywhere near the throne until his sister contacts him. I think most of my disappointment came from the simple fact it wasn't the story I wanted, so take that in consideration.

Still... I caught myself a little bored. The pretend-relationship part never gave many fruits either, just the steps we all know the characters will end up taking. And to be honest, I wasn't convinced by the party-boy tag they put on Daniel. This is part of a series and I haven't read the first book, so mea culpa, but from this book alone, it was far-fetched. He seems too serious and focused for that here.

Now the characters themselves were good. I loved Madison, Eva, and Daniel isn't bad at all, poor thing. Everything happening at the wrong timing... I could see the writers' talents for building characters and wouldn't stop thinking of how I want to read the rest of the series or the previous book. But the story itself lacked shine.

If you're up for a nice, quick-to-read YA book, this can be it. But that's as far as it goes, in my opinion.

Honest review based on an ARC provided by Netgalley. Many thanks to the publisher for this opportunity.

Falcons' hockey player, Daniel Sacachelli, has a secret; he is the bastard son to the King of Eldonia. After his father’s passing, he needs to head to Eldonia to take up the crown, so his family does not lose their kingdom. He enlists the help of his best friend, Madison Myong, to help him clean up his image. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for young adults.

I like Daniel. He is a Junior League hockey player. He loves his half-sister, Evangeline Harwell. He would do anything for her, even giving up his dreams of playing hockey to become king. All he really wants to do is play hockey. He doesn’t feel comfortable when he is in Eldonia. As an American, he doesn’t feel like he belongs.

Daniel’s best friend, Madison, is kind of in a similar predicament. She wants to become an actress, but her parents want her to become a doctor.

Madison and Daniel have both been pining away over each other thinking the other one isn’t interested. In all fairness to Daniel, originally Madison wasn’t interested in his playboy ways.

JUST ONE OF THE ROYALS s a heartfelt and enjoyable read. Things happened that cause controversies. The characters grow and discover a lot about themselves. It had a great ending. I’m looking forward to book three. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

A prince who doesn’t want to be king!

Hockey player Daniel Sacachelli is a prince of Eldonia even though nobody in the US knew that except his mother because he was born before the king married the queen. The girl he wanted to date, Madison Myong had overheard his sister Princess Evangeline who had come from Europe tell him that the throne had to go to a male unless she married and then it would go to her husband and she was only sixteen.

Madison wanted to become an actress and Princess Eva had promised to get her an audition without Daniel’s knowledge if she could help convince Daniel to take the throne. Eva takes Daniel and Madison back with her to Eldonia to figure out a solution that would convince Daniel to take the throne.

Just One of the Royals by Leah Rooper and Kate Rooper is an enjoyable read and is fun and flirty because that’s the way high school should be!

I didn’t love it. It took me forever to read it and I had a hard time getting into it. It is very much like “The Princess Diaries”, with all the cheese... I love YA stories, even though I am far beyond the teen years but this one just didn’t do it for me. I’m sure others will love it. I just think I am not the intended audience. Not bad, just not for me.

This was a fast, easy read, but with a few issues that made it hard to get into the book. Once I did, I couldn't put it down until I was finished.
I like the characters of Daniel "Sacs" Sacachelli and Madison Myong, but I couldn't get behind them as main characters. I felt like they both keep playing the poor, pitiful me act. The secondary characters were all wonderful. If this book had been Sacs and Madison on an island, I would have put it down after page 3.
Once I got past the character flaws, I loved the concept of the story. The bastard prince coming to take over the throne isn't one I had read before and I found it refreshing. I wanted to find out what would happen next, so it kept me in the book.
I ended up liking the book over all, but I couldn't love it. Would I read it again? Yes, but only after the next book in the series is released. I'm interested to see what happens to Eva.

This book has: a scene at a ball involving a staircase, a cartoonishly evil bad guy who looks down on Commoners, and a fake country ending in -NIA. I loved it. Hockey and fake fiancé /girlfriend/boyfriend movies are basically two of my favorite things in life so this book was made for me. It's like a Lifetime movie in book form, you know exactly how it's going to end but you stay with it anyway because it just makes you feel good. The romance was light and fun and the hockey camaraderie just added something extra for me. It's a pretty quick and very easy read, but definitely worthwhile.

“Living a lie so well, it consumed my truth. But lies are empty. And now, I’m left with nothing.”

The perfect summer reading.
Just One of The Royals is the story of Daniel the bastard prince, his love for his family and his journey to find the right answers to where he belongs. And Madison an aspirant actress with big dreams and biggest heart.
I love Prince and Princess’ stories. I like to think that I’m part of those stories and this book wasn’t an exception. It’s cute and funny, actually, it’s hilarious, I found myself laughing to death in multiples scenes. Yes, there is some resemblance to The Princess Diaries but with unique statements.
The characters are great and the narrative flows really well. But there is more, much more: Intrigue, a mean Queen, a villain, friendship turned into romance and loyalty.
My only concerns were the slow pace at the beginning and the abruptly end. Also, this book is supposed to be standalone, but I feel like I needed to read the first one Just One of the Boys in order to have a better understanding of Hayden and Alice relationship, which shouldn’t be necessary. Although, it got me curious about the book and I 'm going to read it, as I’m going to read the next one Just One of the Falcon which tells Eva and Tyler’ story.
If you are looking for a sweet read, fresh and cute to spend a relaxing afternoon under a tree, this book is for you.

Rating: 3 stars

I’ve never read anything from Leah and Kate Rooper before Just One of the Royals. When I saw it on NetGalley, it immediately caught my attention because: handsome guy who turns out to be a prince? Yes, please. I didn’t even realize that it’s the second book in a series but it’s okay because each book follows a different hockey player in the famous Falcons hockey team from Chicago.

The story is definitely predictable as one can determine from the synopsis itself. However, it was still a very enjoyable and quick read, especially when I read it during my vacation in Europe with all the visits of different palaces which add more visualization and the Royal Marriage going on at the same time! Though the story could’ve been expanded with more details to make it flow more naturally.

The writing, in my opinion, can sometimes feel choppy and the timeline transition seems a bit too sudden and out of place. In Just One of the Royals, there are 2 POVs: one for Madison and one for Daniel. As I was reading, I felt that I’m only reading from one POV and didn’t feel connected to any of the characters at all. They felt unfortunately flat for me. Another thing about POV, it switches within the same chapter, which it’s like a personal pet peeves.

As for the ending, it was expected. Nothing’s surprising or new. To simply put, it’s your typical love story with a secret identity royalty in it. However, it’s still nice to read one of those stories once in a while for entertainment sake!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me this ARC! It was an amazing read!

Next King of Eldonia? Anyone? I like cute romances but this was decidedly YA and zero romance. Basically Daniel and Madison are really great/best friends off the rink. Madison is the trainer but she spends a lot of time with Daniel because she has feelings for him. You just barely see the feelings. Two kids who have adult bodies with adult wants but no idea how to get there. A ton of pretending on both sides but they both want to date each other but neither one have the wherewithal to pull it out of their ass. I did not enjoy the book because I don't feel like it was for adults with an adult mindset. The story was remarkably like princess diaries with some hockey thrown in. Two stars of entertainment!

Imagine my situation here when I saw the union of Crush with hockey with royalty. I jumped for joy, and took the book but I didn't feel a connection with the couple, unfortunately. Despite that, I like a lot the plot, their friends, Eva, the coach, until the point of conflict, because I could not understand why he reacted that way, he had known the girl for a long time to do that. Anyway, this time the book did not work very much for me.
The romance is cute, the cover is perfect and the girl is great, but...

This book was super cute! It immediately reminded me of The Prince and Me or even The Princess Diaries and even though contemporary romance isn't my usual read I knew that I had to give this one a try - and I'm glad that I did; I enjoyed it.

Just One Of The Royals is actually the second in a series that seems to be centred around the budding romances of a team of hockey players however you can easily read this as a standalone (I did!). The couple from the previous book did feature in this one however everything you needed to know was explained/recapped and I didn't feel as though I was missing anything although I might search out the first book just to see!

Daniel is our main character, a hockey player and a bit of a reprobate, he's harbouring a huge secret - the fact that he's actually the prince of a foreign country.

Madison is Daniel's best friend, a Korean-American whose parents are doctors and would like her to follow in their footsteps but Madison aspires to be an actress.

The writing style is simple and easy to read but sometimes the interactions felt a little awkward and contrived. I actually found it easier to connect with Daniel over Madison and I found his character believable and his motivations genuine.

This isn't an unpredictable story and at times I was wanting to jump into the pages to give the characters their solution (which they came to eventually by themselves) but considering we're following a group of teenagers nothing felt out of place.

It's light and fluffy and entertaining and with the ice-hockey and royalty angle I can see it being popular with many readers. The next book centres on Daniel's half sister which also sounds like it could be extremely sweet and cute so I'll be following this series.

This book was not for me- I am afraid I did not finish. Although the plot started out somewhat strong for me, I did not feel the characters were very well developed when all of the sudden they were traveling out of the country. The description had everything I love in a fluffy YA romance, but it started to feel very forced to me. I didn't feel the dialog flowed very well.

I loved Just One of the Boys by Leah Rooper so I was thrilled to see another story that involves so many of the characters from the first book. Though you could read this alone, I recommend getting to know the characters in Just One of the Boys before reading Just One of the Royals because it will make the experience even more fun! When an ice hockey star is secretly a prince and he wants more out of his relationship with his best friend, and he is a "bad boy" you have the makings for a fun, romantic read. I loved the story and it was quick and enjoyable to read.

A hothead hockey player finds himself in the middle of the Princess Diaries. Only, he's the royal. Not her. Thoroughly enjoyed reading about teenagers being stupid teenagers who can't communicate how much they're into each other. Yep, it was totally annoying about their lack of social communication skills, but, hey, that's so true for any kid who's sixteen. I mean, how in the world could any teenager come to grips with suddenly taking on the mantle of ruling a kingdom? Especially a kingdom that doesn't like him, accept him and he doesn't particular fit into.
My one gripe was the story did have too many echoes of the Princess Diaries from the posse of royal's American friends to the butler-that's-on-my-side.
Overall, it's cute and fun...a great weekend read.

I could not get into the story. It was too fluffy, too unrealistic, and too juvenile. I thought the characters were either overly dramatic or acted "too old" for their stated ages in an attempt to come off as "edgy."

I stopped reading at 20%.

The blurb of this book made me think of the Princess Diaries only with the guy being the one who needed to be trained to be king. And in a way there are some similarities. But the film certainly doesn't have the sassy sister, Evangeline (or Eva) and the stoic Boulder as a body guard.

Daniel also isn't the real brother of Eva, he is the bastard of the king of Eldonia and his American mother. However, because females can't assume the throne, Eva is forced to marry Lyle, Daniel's arc nemesis or lose the kingdom. Unless Daniel assumes the throne.

But Daniel isn't interested in taking over Eldonia. Especially since his playboy history doesn't make him very popular in Eldonia. But when Madison offers to help him, together with Al(ice) and Hayden (from part one: Just One of the Boys), he agrees to go to Eldonia with Eva and claim his birthright.

Madison has a dream to become an actress. But she doesn't have the right connections to get famous. Until Eva promises to help her out, in exchange of playing the biggest role in her life: as the girlfriend of Daniel. So she agrees. But is she actually acting? Or is she falling for her best friend?

A fast and easy read. Funny and warms your heart. Families and friends and all we do for them. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
