As an avid Royal fan (British and other European), I always enjoy reading fictitious romance type books based on them.
This was a fun book. Filled with a bit of mystery, romance and espionage. I didn't quite connect with the characters of Thea and Nick fully. I wish there was a bit more substance to their romance. Perhaps even affection but I realize this was a lightweight, fun type of story. Overall a nice and easy book to read

I typically love modern Royal stories but this one did not do it for me. Disappointing characters and story.

A blah romance made of meh. The characters are dull, the love interest isn’t half as charming as the author thinks, the plot is convoluted nonsense.

I was immediately drawn to the book based on the whole idea that it was being touted as a 'Princess Diaries' meets 'The Royal We' -- two books I did thoroughly enjoy. I don't feel like it really hit the mark of those two for me, but I do think that if you're a big fan of either, you will most likely enjoy this easy beach read that blends mystery and romance with a royal twist. It wasn't a page-turner for me, truth be told, and I did feel that the plot dragged at times. But-- I do love a good princess book!

If you’re looking for a silly romantic comedy with just a touch of suspense to escape into for a few hours, this is your book. It’s advertised for fans of The Princess Diaries and I think that’s the perfect way to describe this.

One of my new favorite books! This author has such a way with words the pages flew by in no time! I can’t wait to see the next work by this author! This was such a joy to read!

I adore royal romances and this novel did not disappoint. The premise for this novel was cute and it was executed with wit and charm. I had a great time with this novel.

I requested this for review based on the summary, but unfortunately the summary didn't reflect the book well. It was compared to The Princess Diaries and The Royal We, but it reads more like a (boring) thriller than a romantic comedy. And that's fine, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I loved the setting and history of this fictional monarchy, but the characters all fell flat for me (as did the romance). The book was okay to pass the time, but I wanted more from it. I'd say I was So Okay With It.

I was very surprised and impressed by this book. I had never heard of this author, but I consider myself anew fan. This was a lot of fun and very engrossing.

The Royal Runaway is a fun, quick read. I enjoyed it, read it super fast, but I have a hard time deciding on the genre. It is part romance, part royal politics, part suspense, it has a little bit of everything. I like a book that has a lot of surprises but I think the bouncing back and forth a bit ended up being distracting and less compelling. Maybe if the book had been longer, it would have allowed more of the emotions between the characters to be displayed. I do think there is more to learn from this family and kingdom, I would read another by the author.

I enjoyed this one. Interesting journey, depth of characters. Really nice read. My favorite aspect was the complexity of the relationship. There were no clear cut "rights" or "wrongs".

This was a fun lil beach read. I super enjoyed the royal meets rogue adventure that leads to romance, plus the espionage and mystery in the story. Will definitely look forward to reading Lindsay Emory in the future!

Like the Royal We, but with more intrigue. Hopefully there will be a follow up! The secret lives of real life royals are hopefully not this suspenseful.

It started out fun. However, the story dragged at times. I think it could have been shorter. Also, I didn’t feel any romance between Theodora and Nick. Nick was very mean to Theodora throughout the novel. However, I recommend this for fans of Paper Princess and other royal stories.

I was really excited about reading something lighter and more fun to get out of a recent reading slump and thought this book may have fit the bill. Unfortunately, it fell really flat for me. This could have been a good book, even though the heroine is as dumb as a box of rocks - I can get on board with that and I can easily believe a dumb royal. But it ended up being both uninteresting and chock full of plot holes. An unlikable, stupid, and quite selfish “heroine” falls prey to the “charms” of a tall-dark-and-testosteronic autocratic “hero,” and nothing they do is either believable or sympathetic.

After her fiancé jilted her on their wedding day, she’s finally back home after spending four months in exile—aka it’s back to press conferences, public appearances, and putting on a show for the Driedish nation as the perfect princess they expect her to be. But Thea’s sick of duty. After all, that’s what got her into this mess in the first place. So when she sneaks out of the palace and meets a sexy Scot named Nick in a local bar, she relishes the chance to be a normal woman for a change. But just as she thinks she’s found her Prince Charming for the night, he reveals his intentions are less than honorable: he’s the brother of her former fiancé, a British spy, and he’s not above blackmail. As Thea reluctantly joins forces with Nick to find out what happened the day her fiancé disappeared, together they discover a secret that could destroy a centuries-old monarchy and change life as they know it.
This was the first time I’ve read this author so I wasn’t quite sure what I was going to get. What I got was a light-hearted and fun fairy tale that I got through rather quickly. If you are into this kind of read, than I definitely recommend.

Princess Theodora Isabella Victoria of Drieden of the Royal House Laurent is so over this princess thing.

I appreciated that this book was a quick read filled with romance, suspense & comedy. Not your typical princess read!

Entertaining escapism. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

The Royal Runaway follows a future queen on an exciting mystery after her fiance disappears just before the wedding. When they believe that he may have been kidnapped, she and her Scottish would-be-brother-in-law (and spy!) uncover secrets with high stakes for the monarchy, the nation, and her life. This book is a fun royal rom-com take on a political thriller. There was more action and politics than I expected going in, but it really worked for me. Love a fun cliched romance but also love a mystery that doesn't play second fiddle? This is perfect for you! Probably one of my most fun reads in a while.
