A short story which I wasn't expecting for some reason. Well written but not my cup of tea. I just didn't enjoy the plot

A graphically violent short story that really only makes you think one thing...how far would you go for revenge of a loved one...for your own child?

’Sleeping inconvenienced him. Sleeping took time away from hate.’

The vagueness of the characters didn’t bother me...it intrigued me. The lengths that ‘Teacher’ goes to enact his revenge is amazing...it takes him 2 years of careful planning to take down everyone involved.

The story contains a lot of violent and rape...if you can get past that it’s a good read about revenge.

A short but impact story about revenge. I was surprised that there was so much to this story considering the length, but it sure delivered! Even though the story is fiction, it is also relate able and it gets you wondering how you can justify The Teacher's actions. Highly recommend the ride.

Not really my genre and it was just ok. Gore didn't bother me but their seemed to be missing storyline. Characters weren't built enough for my taste.

While I feel like people will either love or hate this book I find myself somewhere in the middle.

There are 2 things that will make or break this book for everyone:
1) The vagueness
2) The graphicness

I personally really liked the vagueness of the book. It's a short novel so the vagueness makes the story feel bigger than 100 pages, but at the same time the vagueness was too much at times. If there were scenes with more than 2 people talking or 2 males talking the dialogue and who was saying what was hard to follow. And then there were scenes where I literally had no idea what was happening.

There's a graphic scene with Girl and Teacher and I didn't know what was happening or why it was happening or even if something happened? And this wasn't in a mysterious way, it genuinely felt like I missed a page or two of information.

But overall I still enjoyed the book. Short novels are hit or miss and for me, this novel was a hit story wise. I just wish some things were a bit more fleshed out.

Loved this! That's all I can say without giving anything away. I'm so excited that I was able to review this so thank you NetGalley! Can't read more by Gerrit Steenhagen

Teacher is a man on a mission. After the murder of his son he wants to make the person to blame suffer. So he plans to ruin the life of this senior high school student. To accomplish this Teacher doesn’t shy away from any means necessary to reach his goal. He starts a path of violence, but gets sidetracked by Girl, his son’s former girlfriend, who is fleeing from the clutches of the violent M-13 gang.

This is going to be a short review for a short book. First off I do want to than Xpressotours for providing me with a free digital copy for reviewing. That being said, I have to give my honest opinion:
I did not like Red Rider at all. I have never read anything like it. It’s just one graphic violent sequence after the other. Bone breaking, bulging eyes, blood, violent rape: everything is included. I am still absolutely horrified and shocked by what I read. This was not what I was expecting from the description. I thought it would be more of a thriller, but this is plain gore.

The story was very difficult to follow. In the end you do find out what the violence was about, but until then there was no sense to it. The characters are plain weird and I could not build an emotional connection to any of them. The story read more like a rough script for a splatter movie than an actual book. If it had been longer than the 117 pages, I would have stopped reading, just because it made me so sick. So, if you are not a fan of detailed violence, this is not for you!

The main character, known as The Teacher, is set out to avenge the murder of his son and pretends to be a high school substitute teacher when he learns that his son's murderer is a high school senior.

This book was suspenseful, however it isn't the type I normally read, but I thought I would give it a try. I enjoyed the suspense, but I didn't like that it almost romanticizes revenge.

I would like to thank the author and publisher Gerrit Steenhagen for the digital copy of "Red Rider". The Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

The main character, known only as Teacher, plans to avenge the death of his teenage son. You don't find out the whole story of what happened to the son until the very end. Teacher finds the killer and plots to make him die in the same way as his son did, while at the same time trying to protect the son's girlfriend from a gang. This was a really quick read, fast-paced and choppy. I didn't really care for it, but I'm having trouble putting into words what exactly I didn't like. I'd give this one 2 stars, not terrible but not my thing either.

This seemed to be a short story vs. a novel. It was okay but it seemed poorly edited and rushed. Maybe because that gang has been in the news so much? I felt like it could have been a lot better.

2-2.5 stars?

Ummm... I’m really not sure how I feel about this book overall. Very fast paced read that I flew through but, until the last 5 minutes you don’t really understand why the main character referred to as “Teacher”, is so angry and doing these horrible things to people. Basically this “Teacher” is out for revenge and on a rampage to ruin lives because he is so angry at his own sons death. The end is very graphic and vulgar as it all comes together. Just wasn’t a book for me.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Sorry I didn’t like this book more.

This book was very hard to follow. It’s like it wants to be fast paced, but it’s jusy sloppily written.

The Teacher is a man on a mission. This is the identity he took after the savage murder of his teenaged son. He lost his wife in the aftermath. Unknowing to her, he bought the house across the street where she now loves with a new man in her life.

His mission is to find the killer of his son and dish out the same treatment to him as what killed his son. Learning that it was a high school senior, he masquerades as a substitute teacher. As he puts together his plan for revenge, he gets interrupted by his son's former girlfriend ... who is having troubles of her own with the MS-13 gang.

This is a short read ... about 120 pages ... packed full of suspense. The author has done an excellent job in character development bringing this character's angst and anger and grief front and center.

Many thanks to the author / Gerrit Steenhagen as Publisher / Netgalley for the digital copy of RED RIDER. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
