This book reminded me strongly of the Two Minute Mysteries that I loved to read when I was young. The puzzles are quick, and encourage you to think about things a little differently. I found it enjoyable, and a good distraction while waiting for an appointment. I would recommend this for word puzzle lovers, and people who are good at trivia.

I devoured Sherlock Holmes mysteries when I was younger. Perhaps because of them, or perhaps because of my curious nature that enjoyed puzzles, any riddle or wordplay was also engaging to me. I remember a junior high teacher with a game that contained hundreds of puzzles, and I was excited when there were a few minutes at the end of a class so that we could all hear one or two, along with their solutions if none of us figured them out.

When I read the premise of this book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it because my nostalgia is so great when it comes to Sherlock and puzzles. The included puzzles require no previous knowledge of Sherlock Holmes and his cases, but they will add some enjoyment as there are references made to Mrs Hudson, the Baker Street Irregulars, and, as expected, Watson is the narrator.

The included puzzles take various forms: some might depend on word play, others would benefit from scribbling out the logical framework and narrowing down to the various groupings from the given hints, some want you to decipher a note or find the next in a series, and some require some math skill.

When I was young, I was also sometimes drawn to the joke books that are all groaners, and I pestered my parents with wanting to read aloud nearly all of them. That has come full circle with my older daughter getting into joke books. This type of a puzzle book would be much more delightful in a middle-school child, for instance -- I wouldn't mind having these read aloud and working through them together, figuring out which ones we can solve and which ones stump us. Adults could also enjoy flipping through the book by themselves, just for the sake of the mental challenges in the more difficult ones.

The puzzle setup is relatively brief -- the longest might be one page, and solutions are included at the end of the book (the Kindle version is very user friendly, as there are direct links to the puzzle's solution, as well as options to skip from the solution back to the puzzle, if you want another look, or directly from the solution to the next puzzle).

Don't be persuaded by the claims of this book to have a host of puzzles for the average woman to dip into and exercise their brain with. Although it's been suitably put into the fictional world of 221B, this is more or less a selection of groan-worthy riddles. What has three feet and no legs? A yardstick. You get the drift, so even if it starts with one of those gridless logical puzzles that have been kicking around for decades, not a lot here will really tax you, until you click 'solution' in exasperation, only to groan at the result. On the other hand, too much of this is primary school stuff – surely things like 'gegs' predate Holmes. And never – NEVER – would Holmes say "there are a large number of" anything. One and a half stars.

The Great Sherlock Holmes Puzzle Book by Gareth MooreThis was fun book full of interesting logic puzzles. The links weren't all correct which led to some frustrations but I would hope that would be fixed by the time they published the book.

This book of puzzles; sometimes mathematical, other times observational, and at other times logical, offers a wonderful brain teasing opportunity. I believe young teenagers through adults would enjoy this book. I liked to read only one or two of the puzzles during the course of a day, usually to prime my cells in the morning! The e-book version contains very easy navigation to the solution and onto the next challenges, so the reader is not spending an inordinate amount of time trying to find his or her way through the work.

In short, this book is a fun treat that puzzle lovers and Holmes fans will enjoy.

Mystery readers--especially those fans of Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie--will enjoy this book of Sherlockian puzzles. The illustrations and language give it a very old-fashioned, comforting feel.

Sherlock Holmes themes riddles that are fun to think about, but not terribly difficult. Some of them are deductive reasoning puzzles, and some are more traditional riddles.

I read the ebook, which conveniently has links to the solution, and then to the next puzzle. I liked the ease of which I could jump around the book.

This is a great riddles book. I loved the concept of it being written by John Watson just like the books.
I’ll be returning to it whenever I need to have a good enigma (which happens more than one would think).

A fun collection of word puzzles of varying difficulties. Some were easy, some were just the right level of challenging and a few required math abilities that were beyond even mine. I really enjoyed making my way through it and were able to solve satisfyingly many of them.

The kindle edition has links after each puzzle and each solution for easy navigation back and forth, which came in really handy.

I am a serious lover of puzzle books,
However I seriously underestimated the level of which these are set.
Unfortunately this book was not for me.

A great source of fun and frustration! This feels authentic to the Sherlock Holmes stories, and gives your brain a good work out at the same time. A lot of the puzzles involve math, and calculation or finding what is unique to a number, which I failed miserably. The ones that depend on word play or logic I found I got about 90% on. These aren't too difficult to make you feel frustrated, and depending on your talents, you may find some easier than others. This would be a good book to take in a car for road trips with bored people, or for a Sherlock themed event. It's always good to stretch the brain with something other than Candy Crush every now and again.

A fun and entertaining puzzle book. The puzzles are not too hard and these could be enjoyed by the whole family or as a group with friends. I like that each puzzle has a link to the soloution in the kindle edition.

Loved it! Sherlock Holmes is my absolute favorite detective. This was a puzzle book full of Holmes and Watson deducing puzzles. Really fun to read and try to figure them out. Most of them weren't really hard but they took some thought. I enjoyed being able to click back and forth between story and solution on the ebook I was provided. Made it very simple and easy to use. I would definitely suggest this for puzzle and mystery lovers as well as people who love a good Sherlock Holmes puzzle. The stories themselves are not very long, so it was very enjoyable. Five stars of entertainment!
