This story follows the lives of a small group of Bristol residents.

Joey (woman) has just come back from working in Ibiza and she's brought her new husband, Alfie, with her. They’ve no money and they’re looking for work. They stay at Joey’s brother’s house. Joey’ brother, Jack, is a successful heart surgeon and it seems he has everything – a sunny personality, money, a wife he adores and a baby on the way.

Their next-door neighbours are head teacher Tom Fitzwilliam and his wife Nicola. Tom’s son, Freddie, has a habit of watching people through his digital binoculars and taking photographs of them. He likes to log the details of people’s lives - the times they leave, the route they take to work. He’s particularly interested in three girls from the local school – Bess, Jenna and Romola.

The story starts with a murder and, in the background of the story, we follow the police interviews of each of the key residents.

There’s a knotted history between the lives of these people. Tom Fitzwilliam is the top suspect (but is he also the victim? We must wait until the end to find out). He’s suspected of having affairs with previous students of his schools.

Joey is having second thoughts about her whirlwind marriage and falls headlong in lust with dashing headteacher Tom. She keeps encountering him, at first by chance and then deliberately, and it seems he feels the same way about her…

It’s all a volatile mix and it’s going to end in murder. The question is – who? And then we must find out why?

My favourite character was Jenna. Jenna is fifteen years old and living with her mother who has mental health issues. Jenna has her head screwed on and will prove key to the solving the whole tangled mess.

All the characters were very well written – they had depth and interest and real life dilemmas and troubles which made them feel ‘real’.

The plot pulled me in from the beginning and kept my interest to the end. This one is the real deal – a great page turner, with some creepy aspects and utterly absorbing at the same time. A very enjoyable read and highly recommended.

This novel had me hooked immediately and kept me dangling all the way through. There has been a frenzied killing in a village near Bristol but the facts of the case are not revealed. Who is it? Who is the killer? Why? Motive? DC Rose has to investigate. What I most liked about the book are the fascinating characters. Joey who had a whirlwind marriage to Alfie but her body and common sense war against each other over the charismatic Tom Fitzwilliam who is the local school's Headmaster. In fact his magnetic qualities have everyone in his thrall. Freddie his teenage son is another interesting character - a lonely boy who is the net-twitcher of the village. The relationship between the girls Jenna and Bess is perfectly painted. Jenna's mother who believe she is the victim of gang stalking. The story is interspersed with police interviews of all the characters and there's plenty of humour and other well defined side issues. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK Cornerstone.

Oh my, this was a delightfully convoluted journey that both started and ended with a bit of a bang! We begin with a body but who and why is not divulged. Rewinding to a couple of months before the murder, we meet Joey who, with her new husband Alfie, has returned from working and living abroad; currently living with her brother whilst they find their feet. She starts to become obsessed with one of their neighbours; Tom, the headmaster of the local school. We then meet Tom's son Freddie who has a strange habit of documenting the neighbourhood, fixating on some of the young schoolgirls with his camera. One of which, Jenna, has a mother who is certain she is being gang stalked, mostly by Tom who she recognises from a previous holiday. Told you it was a bit convoluted! But don't worry, there is a big cast, most of whom we meet at the same time quite early on but they are all distinct and well drawn which meant that even I who normally struggles with such things, never got confused. Especially considering that the majority of them were, shall we just say, a little distasteful.
As well as a big cast, we have a story that has more tangles than a ball of wool that has been over played with by a hyperactive kitten! The unravelling of which is the most delightful part of the book. Talk about secrets, lies and what goes on behind closed doors! Things that at first seem unconnected suddenly come together. Misconceptions are revealed. Assumptions blasted away as slowly the author peels back the layers to expose the truth of what really happened at the beginning. To say that I was completely floored and shocked by it all would be an understatement. Not that it came completely out of left field by the way. The pointers were there, it was just my interpretation at the time that was severely lacking. Not that I feel cheated at any of the duplicity. Indeed, hats off to the author for such an ingeniously well plotted book.
I'll leave you with a warning. This book will get under your skin. You will need to get to the end. It's not really the best book to start if you have anything important to do. once I started it, I read through right to the end with very few pauses. I needed to know. I got a bit obsessed. Even considering I was pretty much flummoxed throughout, I was left completely satisfied with a big grin on my face, thanking the author for a job very well done.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Have always adored Lisa Jewell’s books, but it seems with each one the stories get better!
The characters are well thought out and with each page you are constantly kept on tenterhooks.
You have no idea who to trust, who you should like and who you should be wary of.
So many times you guess wrong and then you have to read on just to know what happens next.
The plot twists in ways you couldn’t guess and has you gripped from the outset!
Going to be the thriller hit for this year!

Watching You begins with a bang, with a dead body in the kitchen. From the outset we are left to guess not only who the body belongs to, but who did it, and why. A cleverly written book with gradual reveals, an intriguing plot and strong characters.

The story follows Joey Mullen, who’s just returned from Ibiza with her new husband in tow. Despite being a newlywed, she promptly becomes obsessed with one of her neighbors, an older man called Tom, who’s described in such a way as I felt nothing but absolute distaste for him, as well as for Joey for being obsessed with him.

Lisa Jewell is a master at creating tension and writing excellent characters, and Watching You is no exception. So much creepiness – everybody watching each other – so many themes to talk about, so many well-written (if unlikeable) characters. I enjoyed the twist at the end and the themes of bullying, self-consciousness, innocent crushes turning into something dark.

Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read Watching You by Lisa Jewell in exchange for my honest review.

My word! What a brilliant read. Like every other book I’ve read by Lisa Jewell I loved this too. I was gripped right from the beginning through the end. Unputdownable and so much so I burnt the dinner a couple of times. Brilliant and thank you for the opportunity to review it.

Another great psychological thriller from Lisa Jewell. So many likely characters and twist and turns that had me foxed until almost the end. A fascinating read with a lovely conclusion.

I really enjoyed this book, the story was intriguing and not predictable. I felt the main story and character's were really more of a background to what the book was about. I really would recommend this book.
The story seems to centre on Joey who has recently returned from Ibiza with her new husband, they are both living with her brother and his pregnant wife. The local head teacher Tom Fitzwilliam catches her eye and she becomes infatuated by him. Tom lives with his wife and teenage son Freddie, he is a super head who moves from school to school, turning around failing schools. I said the story seems to centre on Joey and Tom but there are so many other characters who are central to the entire story.
This book is a story of sadness and loss and obsession, it shows that not everything is always as it seems. If I could give 10 stars I would .

Wow! Lisa Jewell dies not disappoint with "Watching You". Delicate strands of storyline are woven together and just as you think you know where the story is going another level is added. I love the way that Jewell develops her characters, always realistic in that even the 'good' ones have flaws and aren't necessarily likeable.

Another gripping story from Lisa Jewell! With memorable characters and a plot that keeps you guessing, I found it an enjoyable read and hard to put down.
From the opening chapter we know there has been a murder, but neither the victim nor the killer are revealed until much later. We are introduced to the various residents of the community of Melville and as we discover more about their stories, we gradually see how they intertwine, and the tension builds towards the story's conclusion.
I liked how the author kept you guessing about certain characters and their true motivations for certain actions. It is very cleverly written.
If you enjoy a good mystery story I'd highly recommend this book!

This is a story that starts off slowly letting you build a picture of all the characters involved and what a mixed bag they are.
Newly married Joey recently returned from abroad and now living with her husband Alfie, brother Jack and his pregnant wife.
A neighbour, Tom, local head teacher, his wife Nikki and son Freddie. Freddie spends most of his time watching the locals through his binoculars and taking photographs of them, trying to guess at their stories and their relationships with others.
Jenna , a pupil at Tom`s school and her mother Frances who is suffering from a mental disorder.
Joeys nature is such that she becomes obsessed with Tom, in this she is not alone. His students and parents also, are either charmed or suspicious of him.
I liked the way the inclusion of police interviews running alongside the main storyline was used to show their involvement..
This is a story of obsession, secrets, lies and betrayal which ultimately lead to murder.
Plenty twists to keep the reader turning the pages.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it as one to read, you wont be disappointed.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this as an ARC.

I’m always so excited when there is the opportunity to read a new Lisa Jewell as in my opinion she’s getting better and better. So well written that you’re thinking it’s going to go one way then it takes an unexpected turn and you’re questioning what you know. Chock full of suspense and drama it’s a stunning read.

I am a massive fan of Lisa Jewell and this was another excellent one....i would say it was slightly slower then her other books but no way would I give up as I knew it would be a good’un and it certainly was!! Thank you for the read!

Joey Mullen returns to the 'iconic' Melville Heights, a place she'd long dreamed of living in. Married, but rudderless career-wise, she moves in with older brother Jack and his pregnant wife, Rebecca. But the colourful row of Victorian villas contains dark secrets and soon we are caught up in a complex web of deep-rooted hatred, voyeurism and paranoia.
From the outset we know there has been a murder. Who has been murdered is not revealed, and the narrative is interspersed with recordings of police interviews. The cast of characters is long and a little confusing, and I found myself having to flick back from time to time to check I hadn't – literally – lost the plot! Nevertheless, I was engrossed throughout, and the ending made me gasp! Another great read from Lisa Jewell.

I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
I was gripped from the very start. The writing is crisp, the plot well thought out, the characters interesting and varied, the tension high.
I particularly liked that from one page to the next I did not really know where the book was going.
A very enjoyable read by Lisa Jewell that I would recommend.

Fantastic. Lisa Jewell is really, really good at this. Delicious read, right down to the last sentence.

Wow great story. The plot is hidden for quite some time and unfolds gradually revealing incredulous circumstances surrounding the main characters. Very cleverly composed. Joey considers herself a misfit, newly married to a handsome husband but her excitement lies elsewhere. Tom is suave and charming. Freddie, his son is a fabulous character, very real, a teenager who borders on obsessive when he gives something his attention. I enjoyed it and read it in one sitting, not wanting to put it down.

I was going to save this book for my hospital night-time sleeplessness - coming soon - but I couldn't resist it. One of my favourite authors.

And in my opinion, her best novel yet.

Everyone is watching everyone else, and with good cause it turns out. But not always for the reason you originally thought! The plot twists enough times for all your assumptions to be turned upside down more than once.

I did make one correct guess about who had opened the photos but not why, or what they thought they were seeing!

Well plotted, with plenty of potential endings in the style of Agatha Christie. And stylistically concise and unsentimental with clean prose.

I’ve only recently discovered Lisa Jewell’s books, but loved this one as much as the others I’ve read so far.

This story takes place in a suburb of Bristol called Melville where everybody seems to know each other, but everybody has their own secrets. It is full of credible, quirky characters and there’s a murder mystery to solve.

The story starts off slowly as we get to know the different characters, but as it progresses it becomes pacier and more engrossing as the various characters become intertwined with each other and the story builds to its unexpected climax.
As well as keeping up with the twists and turns and discerning what is and isn’t a red herring the questions to ask are who is watching and who is being watched.

Watching You is a great page turner and I will definitely be recommending it to others.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
