If you’re the kind of person who just can’t resist a UK crime procedural with a damaged main character and a twisted killer, then this is the book for you.

The way Roz is treated at times by her superiors is infuriating. It got my feminist hackles up. Credit to Rob Ashman for writing a plot aspect for a female lead MC, which rang true and gave me the rage.

The killer in this book is not for the weak. He’s a sicko, and his actions are described in detail. My one little ugh for this review is that the killer was a tad bit cliché in terms of the number of stereotypes that existed within his pathology.

The pacing of this is actually pretty action-packed considering it’s a procedural with intense character-driven elements. It’s intense, dark, full of tension and twisty moments, but centred around a damaged, broken cop who grounds the whole novel in her grief and the aftermath of it.

If you’re a crime reader, it’s a no-brainer addition to your TBR, honestly.

Faceless is the first book in the D.I Rosalind Kray series set in Blackpool.

Rosalind Kray (Roz) returns to work after a viscous attack that killed her husband Joe and has left her badly scarred. Rosalind returns to a serial murder investigation.

OMG I loved this book!! I was completely hooked and oblivious to the outside world when reading this.

The killer doesn’t just want to kill his victims he wants to obliterate them completely. His choice of victims seem random but he has chosen them specifically . I won’t tell you how he kills them but let’s just say it is brutal!!!

This is going to be a series to look out for, it’s gripping, chilling and kept me on the edge of my seat. I cannot wait to see what Roz will investigate next.

I thought Roz was a great character, trying to overcome the death of her husband and throwing herself into her work. This back story added a greater depth to the book.

A must read book that will leave you with goosebumps!!

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

Wow, what a fantastic read! I have never read anything by Rob before, so I didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised!
DI Rosalind Kray is our new kickarse lady detective. She is flawed, inside and out, and bits of her life and her past are shared throughout the book. Through all this pain and suffering she manages to investigate the senseless killings that seems to follow her around. Highly recommended, and worth every minute of your time!

Good, gritty crime drama.
Obviously part of a series, but not an issue as the protagonist has flashbacks which helped.
I liked the fact that the female DI was a woman that had feelings and not an emotional brick as in some crime dramas that use female DIs.
All in all a good book. However it does make me wonder how the author thought up these ideas! 😳

Thanks to Netgalley, Rob Ashman and Bloodhound Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Faceless was a warped book that I really did enjoy.

The story was great and showed different facets of police work and what and how different officers handle the situation.

Roz Kray is definitely an interesting character and you can see the scars she bears on her soul. She is a powerful character who you want to find out more about.

What a wonderful debut for this character.

DI Roz Kray has returned to work after being viciously stabbed - an attack in which her husband was killed. She has accompanied an officer to investigate a bad smell coming from property, Inside they discover the body of a young woman - she has been dead for some time and her face has been removed. Then further murders occur - one victim is someone close to the investigation - and the police struggle to find a connection between the victims and a motive for the killing. The Roz suddenly realises what the connection is and who the next victim is going to be.

A fantastic read from start to finish. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bloodhound Books and Rob Ashman for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Das Buch kommt mit viel Spannung daher, mit vielen Wendungen und ist so ein ganz anderer Lesespaß, als erwartet. Nimmt von Anfang an Fahrt auf und hält den Leser bis zum Schluß gefangen. Großartig!

4.5 stars
Detective Inspector Kray is looking for a murderer that removes faces. She has a lot of issues but her crime solving abilities aren't diminished. I would write more but I want to start the second book in the series now.

Thankyou to NetGalley, Bloodhound Books and Rob Ashman for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of Faceless.
I have read other books by this author in the past and have never been disappointed. And I certainly was not disappointed with this book either. It was a fast paced thriller with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you perched on the edge of your chair. And I love that the main character is a woman with a lot of guts who never gives up.
Definitely well worth a read for fans of the genre.

I make these temporary decision sometimes. The particular one which makes sense in this context is that I keep saying I will not try any more thrillers. This was the first in a series so I decided to give it a shot. I have a few more which I have ARCs of and I hope I stick to that resolution after I read them. They do not seem to be my cup of tea.

DI Roz Cray is recovering from the loss of her husband and other associated memories continue to plague her. She is seen as a threat by the higher-ups at her workplace and that is slowing down the case she landed herself into. The case involves a guy taking his victims faces, literally. The why and how of what happens next is the bulk of the story.

This particular case has all the twists and the psychological trauma involved in the making of both the killer and the intended victim. That is the only reason I give it three stars is that the plot is pretty original and even the more experienced of thriller readers may not be able to completely predict the 'cause' of it all. I had a problem with coarseness in the dialogue. I guess that's how the outside world speaks now but somehow it distracts me from the case at hand. Sometimes the connections between the different pictures being shown to us seemed forced. These negative feelings seem to be in the minority since most of the other hundred plus people who have rated the book have loved it. So I would recommend you trying it out yourself to check if you like it!

I previously read this author’s Mechanic Trilogy and was gobsmacked. This book does not disappoint. DI Roz Kray is the female feisty police officer set the task of finding a serial killer in Blackpool, The murders and what they involve are ingenuous and gruesome.

I highly recommend Faceless if you want a book that keeps you enthralled. A definite 5* read.

This book hits the ground running and just keeps you hooked! I was reading this in bed, while cooking, in the bath, on my walk to work. I could not put this down!
Rob Ashman is an author I'd not followed before, but I will be now!
Faceless is clever, gruesome and gripping

Rob Ashman is the master of gruesome murders. How he manages to come up with such scenarios is mind boggling. I have to thank all my gods that he chooses to write about them, as opposed to carrying them out. If you don't like descriptive crime scenes, this is not the book for you. Ros Kray is a wonderful heroine, a believable and well drawn character that I felt fully invested in. Faceless is a work of creative genius, the descriptive passages are so well written it was easy to feel you were at the crime scene. There are plenty of edge of your seat, OMG moments. In fact, I felt quite emotionally drained once I'd finished reading, as though I'd kept pace with Ros Kray, matching her, pace for pace and emotion for emotion. A genuinely brilliant book by an excellent writer.

DI Roz Kray has returned to work after the murder of her husband when her first case is a murdered woman missing her face. Roz has to investigate the case facing a backlash from her superiors but can she solve the murder before her own life is in danger?

Wow,this was such a good read. I love police drama and this ticked all the boxes for me and the explosive ending was brutal! Now to book 2!

Faceless is the first of the D I Kray novels and it does not disappoint , having read Rob Ashman's mechanic trilogy I was very keen to read more by this excellent writer. D I Roz is just newly returned to work after a viscous knife attack left her badly scared, near to death and a widow, as her husband was killed trying to save her. In her fist case since returning to work, DI Kray is called out to a suspicious smell coming from a flat where she discovers the murdered and mutilated body of a beautiful women.
The novel is written in two voices, D I KRAY and the murderer, this split ensures you are totally drawn into the two sides, torn between DI Kray's ability to put her instincts into actions and the murderers calm exterior and almost pathological excitement. Once again Rob Ashman has written a sick and twisted tale that both frightened and enthralled me in equal measures. As I read I found myself shouting out loud at the blatant mysogny of her boss Jacko and willing Roz to solve the case despite being passed over and excluded. This book was so well put together that as I read, I found myself reacting to the incredible gory depictions of mutilated bodies, to say nothing of my fear of snakes. Once again a wonderful read by Rob Ashman and I am truly looking forward to read the D I Kray's second outing in This little piggy.

This is NOT the book to read late into the night, this police procedural may bring to mind Silence of the Lambs, in more ways than one! Kray doubts herself, witnesses doubt what they have seen, and everyone is running like crazy trying to solve the murders before more occur. You're almost afraid to turn the pages to see what wil happen next, as the serial killer stays 2 steps of Kray through most of the book. Still stunned from her horrendous attack, her intuition if off and it's a race to the end, to see if it will save her and help her catch the killer. Don't Miss this one!
