Oggi sono un grillo fortunato, perché mi sono cascate fra le mani ben due nuove uscite di una delle mie serie preferite (potrei far finta di avere delle remore in merito, ma tanto non mi crederebbe nessuno).

E se una mi ha fatto scoprire l'inarrestabile Harriet Tubman, questa mi trascina nel mondo meraviglioso di una delle mie artiste preferite, già esplorato (ma mai abbastanza) nell'altrettanto delizioso Kid artists.

Non dico niente, se non leggetelo.

E, sopratutto, guardate: era quello che faceva Georgia, scoprendo e riscoprendo di continuo il mondo, e mostrandolo agli altri attraverso i suoi occhi incantati.

Georgia O'Keeffe has to be one of the most colourful artists ever, in all senses of the word. She was an interesting character and gave us a unique view of the world in her paintings of flowers and landscapes as well as skulls and less popular subjects.

This cartoon book has the bright colours she liked but is a rather dry telling of her story in simple words a young child can understand. At the back there are a couple of pages with some black and white photos of her (black and white!) and a slightly more adult summary of her life.

But there are NO pictures of her work! Nothing. Not one. There are illustrations of people gawking at her canvases, but we see only the blank back. How disappointing.

Without some examples of her art - which I think children today would still see as unique - there isn't enough to inspire a budding artist.

The people behind the Little People, Big Dreams series are really on fire this year; we're being spoilt! Here is another addition to the series, focusing on the American artist Georgia O'Keeffe. Like some of the people in this series, I hadn't heard of her before so it was very interesting to learn about her and see why she's such an important person.

Whilst these aren't my favourite illustrations in the series, I can see how children will love them for their brightness and for how they jump off the page. This story was a lovely one all about seeing the beauty in the little things and was a very heartwarming book.

I adore this series which tells the stories of women of many talents. The books are short but detailed and factual with appealing illustrations. Georgia comes to life as a young girl who loves art and moves away from home to become an artist. Her love of city architecture, the appeal of looking at things up close and her deep appreciation for the southwest all shine through. Plus, the reader learns about Alfred Stieglitz. A great series for parents and children to share. These books provide role models for dreaming children.

Summary on the life of Georgia O'Keeffe. The information was good and age appropriate. wish it had been possible to include a picture of one of her paintings.

As a reader I knew nothing about Georgia O’Keeffe going in, and whilst there’s a lot more I know I could learn this book offers a great starting point. Simple and engaging, it’s sure to get young girls inspired by all the possibilities in their own lives.

This is an appealing biography for young readers. I especially like how several of the illustrations foreshadow what will be discussed next. Georgia O'Keeffe is a major figure in modern American Art, and I am happy to see her life's work introduced to young readers in an accessible way.

Young readers will enjoy this brief look at the life of painter Georgia O'Keeffe which focuses on how her childhood love of nature inspired her art throughout her lifetime. The short, simple sentences and bright illustrations will keep the attention of young readers and is a nice introduction to "The Mother of American Modernism".
