Absolutely one of the best pie cookbooks in ages. This is a modern classic for both the techniques and the flavor combinations. A true hit!

Sister Pie does Michigan proud! This was selected as a Michigan Notable book for a reason. Beautifully done with delicious, delectable recipes that will have you heading to the kitchen lickety split!

Lisa Ludwinski's Sister Pie chronicles her journey to the create the little pie shop (and newly James Beard Award nominee) that could in Detroit, Michigan. Ludwinski's shop uses seasonal, local ingredients, employs members of the community, and also gives back by making sure that no one leaves without a slice through her "Pie It Forward" program where customers can purchase a slice for a person who is unable to pay. With delicious recipes and delectable photography Sister Pie, inspires, delights, and captivates. I always make a few recipes from every cookbook, and the Toasted Marshmallow-Butterscotch pie was amazing! I hope to go visit Sister Pie when I make a visit to the area this year.

Lovely cookbook with a wonderful story woven throughout. I appreciate a pie cookbook that puts a fun spin on recipes while keeping them accessible.

This is a beautiful book, with gorgeous photos, personal stories by Ms. Ludwinski, and of course, awesome pie recipes. I found it fairly intimidating with everything to consider before even beginning the recipe. Then again, baking of any type makes me nervous. I honestly didn't even know there was a tool to cut the perfect pie slices (shown in this book). The combinations are exciting (can't wait to try Sweet Corn Nectarine Streusel Pie) yet I would've preferred the instructions a bit simpler and numbered (that's how bad I am). I'm still going to attempt because that's how much I want to try the pies!

These pies sound so amazing. They also sound a lot intimidating. By the time I finished reading about all the tools and techniques, made it through the doughs, and got to the pies, I definitely felt a little overwhelmed. Can someone just make all of these for me? But then I got to the "And Everything Else" section which has some recipes that I feel like I could potentially tackle. I put a bookmark next to the fennel seed snickerdoodles to go back to later. And hey, once I try a couple of those maybe I'll feel confident enough to tackle one of those pies.

Sister Pie is a great book about a great bakery. Ms. Ludwinski's business philosophy, and her recipes are inspiring. I made the Sour Cherry Bourbon Pie, the directions were clear and concise and the pie was nothing short of amazing. If this book doesn't make you want to spend a weekend enjoying her baked goods and the city of Detroit, nothing will.

The variety of pie recipes in this book is my favorite part. Unique flavor combos that I definitely plan on trying out. I'll keep coming back to it for some of these ideas.

The images are really beautiful, though I wish there had been a few more step by step series for the different pies.

This title also features some non-pie recipes in the last third of the book that I could've done without. I was really only interested in the pies.

Sister Pie is going on my personal buy list. I need it for my collection. There are a lot of unique pies and pie crusts. I"m looking forward to making the maple pie. There are also savory scones and a variety of other types of dessert. It's another dessert cookbook, but it isn't repeating the same old recipes that are in my other baking cookbooks. I"m going to have to send my friend who lives in the Detroit area over to find the original shop.

This is the best pie cookbook that I have ever read! Doughs done by hand, not a food processor and many choices. So many wonderful pie recipes that I want to try such as Apple Sage Gouda Pie, Buttermilk Pumpkin Streusel Pie, Salted Maple Pie and Coffee Chess Pie. Wonderful stories with each recipe. There are also hand pies and shortbread cookies. I’ve already read this twice and can’t wait to have a copy in my cookbook library, I love this cookbook!

Good variety of recipes, many of which sound appealing. The title includes more than just pies, with cookies, salads, dressings, etc. Interesting backstory for Sister Pies. However, first couple pages, the photos are not appetizing.

Sister Pie is a thoroughly gorgeous collection of delicious pie recipes, and a lovely look at a Detroit pie shop that is all heart. I enjoyed reading about the band of sisters working at the shop, and their history with and connection to the city of Detroit.

Bonus - the recipes also look amazing and achievable! Coffee Chess Pie, Rhubarb Rosemary Streusel Pie, and Malted Lime Pie looked especially delicious.

The long-awaited cookbook for the Sister Pie shop in Detroit delivers with beautiful photography and a generous helping of recipes for pies, cookies, salads, and more. Ludwinski's prose is companionable and the cookbook is a wonderful representation of an excellent shop.
