Down with Love is the first book in Kate Meader's Laws of Attraction series. As with all of Kate's books there's humor and passion. I loved these characters.

This book was so entertaining. I was drawn into the story from the beginning and was involved until the end. The characters were complex and interesting. I found the story to be well paced and engrossing throughout the whole book. I was invested in the couple throughout the book and felt all the emotions through both the highs and lows of the story. The side characters were such an integral part of this story as well. This is the love story i needed to read at this time. If you want an entertaining and well written book this is it for you

Somehow this title is no longer on my Kindle and I no longer have access. The premise of this novel seemed like a cute romance and I am sure that there are plenty of people who would enjoy this novel.

Down with Love was a hate to love romance that was a fun read but fell short on the mark to be amazing. This had so much potential to be a favorite if only there had been a little less cliche to the romance to make it stand out among other similar stories in the genre.

Charlie and Max instantly clash when Charlie is hired to be the wedding planner for Max’s brother’s wedding. Max doesn’t believe in taking the vows and he hates wedding planners. As a jaded divorce lawyer he’s seen too many relationships go down the drain and he is determined to never get married. The two have instant chemistry under all that hostility so things seem to get interesting pretty quickly in the sexual tension area. However, the romance and comedy fall short in this Rom-com and at times felt forced.

Thank goodness for the side characters! In this case they saved the book for me. As much as I liked Max and Charlie separately, I wasn’t a fan of them as a couple. I preferred reading about their relationships with the other characters in the book. It’s possible I’d prefer the other books in the series. It’s fine, it happens that way sometimes. I will definitely give the rest of the series a try. I have really enjoyed Meader’s hockey series so I’m thinking this just wasn’t the couple for me. I liked it overall but I didn’t love it.

I have read all of Kate Meader’s hockey romances, and they were amazing! I knew this one wouldn’t disappoint. This author is one of the best at character development and sizzling sexual tension. A lawyer and a wedding planner? That’s the best kind of conflict right there. Right along with the witty banter and the fun dialogue.

Cute. Starts out with the funny, but ends with the sweet. I even shed a little bit of a tear. I haven't always loved Kate Meader's writing, but I I did like this one.

At first glance readers will think that Down With Love by Kate Meader is an opposites attract romance as the hero is a divorce attorney, a player, and very anti-marriage and the heroine is a wedding planner, interested in finding Mr. Right and a believer in happily ever after, but there is so much more to this book and as each layer of these very complex characters is pulled away it is easy to see that they both want to find the person who wants them just the way they are and in each other they find that after a lot of verbal volleyball, intense conversations, a few misunderstandings, and a whole lot of discovery in more ways than one. I loved each and every minute of Down With Love.

Max is a man determined to be the best divorce attorney in Chicago and get his clients everything they deserve while helping them come to terms with their new reality. In a lot of ways it is easy to think of Max as a cynic in terms of relationships and love; however it is more about protecting his heart than anything. Max is loyal to a fault not only with his clients, but especially his friends and family which is why despite his instant attraction to his brother and soon to be sister in law’s wedding planner, he can’t help but be wary of everything about her.

Charlie is proud of the woman she has become since losing her mother at age 13 and shuffling through the foster care system before landing with a couple who made her want more from life. Owning her own wedding planning business and now her own home, Charlie is ready for more and that means finding a man to share her life with one that knows the real her and appreciates every facet of her personality. She’s determined to stay away from men who are bad for her and don’t have similar life goals, but she can’t deny the attraction she feels for her newest client’s brother.

From the minute these two collide there are sparks everywhere, but as they are at odds it takes a good, long while before they actually act upon it. I loved their journey, every snarky remark, the innuendo, the way they try to pretend they aren’t affected by each other, and the way they seem to end up spending time together repeatedly. This is a slow burn romance and during that time, they begin to peel away each other’s layers and see that the person underneath is intriguing and fascinating and so damn complex.

This is a busy book with a lot going on in both Max and Charlie’s families and the romance between these two could have gotten lost in the shuffle, however Ms. Meader keeps them front and center allowing them the time they need to move towards a relationship.

Incredibly well written with a depth so many books don’t have these days, full of fun, laughter, and both sexy and serious times, Down With Love is one of my favorite books of 2018.

For some reason this title didn't load to my kindle when I sent the file, which is why I forgot I had it on Netgalley. Since it's archived, I can longer access the ARC and am unable to review. So sorry!

A fun and fresh book in a new series. Max, a divorce attorney, is cynical to say the least. When his kid brother announces he is getting married to a woman he knew 3 months Max sees red flags everywhere. When he sees gorgeous Charlie, he is instantly attracted to her, not knowing she is the wedding planner, or the one who forces people to pay too much for a day wasted. I love the banter, and fun tongue in cheek, although at times felt a bit young for me (in my 50s). Still though, enjoyable and made me chuckle. Looking forward to the next in the series. Highly recommend.

DOWN WITH LOVE - Kate Meader

#1 in the Laws of Attraction romance series

GREAT CHARACTERS! - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - Cynical divorce lawyer Max is thrown together with wedding planner Charlie when Max's brother decides to get married. Although their chemistry is off the charts, they are leery about relationships and both are trying to keep hands off.

Writing - 4 stars - Meader set up a very cute scenario right from the beginning, creating a great likable character in Max, then putting him into an entertaining situation that challenges both of the main characters. I loved much of the wordplay and turns of phrases she used, which added to the lightness and fun. Definitely a feel-good book.

Characters - 5 stars - This is where the story shone for me. Max is, of course, gorgeous and rich, but a very active player. I like his lawyerly professionalism, and he really cares about his clients, even though he deals with them at a tough time in their lives. We just know that he's a good guy underneath all the stereotypical cynical vibe, but he doesn't let it show too much because he thinks it makes him too vulnerable. Charlie is a hopeful, sexy, but tough wedding planner who gets the job done. She loves being in a romance-based job because her nature is sunny and sweet. But she doesn't let anyone walk all over her. She and Max are a great match, even if they won't admit it. Secondary characters of Nathan (Charlie's assistant), James and Gina (the wedding couple), and Donna and Sully (Charlie's parents) are well-designed in their own rights and are a hilarious supportive group.

Title - 4 stars - You can read this phrase in opposite ways, and I suppose that's what the author intended. Max is down on love (on the surface, at least) as he is a divorce lawyer and has had a bad personal experience. Charlie is down with love, meaning that she's all about it. Cute and clever title.

Cover - 4 stars - I like that there are no faces because that allows the reader to imagine the characters to appeal to them. But the fancy clothes point to the professionalism of both of them, and the sexy post belies their real feelings. Nice cover.

Overview - 4 stars - So cute and a lot of fun! The characters are totally awesome. They are both so attractive and appealing, and you just couldn't help but root for their success. The romance had its ups and downs, as expected, and the secondary characters definitely added some interest and entertainment. Very enjoyable book, and I will definitely continue with this series sooner rather than later.

What a great beginning to this series!! Loved the snappy comebacks, the opposites attract storyline and how a cynic like Max could fall for a "in love with love" girl like Charley!

THIS is a great book! Fun and entertaining! I read the second book in the series first and loved it so went back and read the first one. Max and Charlie were so sweet and so much fun. She is a wedding planner who is ready to find her Mr. Right. He is a divorce attorney who believes true lasting love is almost impossible to find. She is planning his brothers wedding and they disagree immediately, but there's something else there too. I really enjoyed reading their story!

I absolutely loved this book!!! I just re-read Down with Love for perhaps the fifth time** and each time I fall harder and harder for not only these two characters and their road to romance, but also Kate Meader’s writing. She brings to life snappy banter and chemistry which makes you feel as though you are watching a classic Hollywood film with Cary Grant and Eva-Marie Saint themselves (If you have never seen North by Northwest - Do it stat!)

On paper and at first blush, Charlie Love & Max Henderson should not work, but they do. They absofreakinlutely do. They snap crackle and pop right off the page and put great big hearts in your eyes.

*likely lowballed

This first instalment of Kate Meaders new series, Down with Love is an enemies to lovers trope and I totally loved it. Similar to Meader’s previous novels, Down with Love is filled with loveable characters who will make you laugh and fall in love with their story.

Max, is a cynic divorce lawyer and Charley is a wedding planner who is in love with love. The matchup was definitely entertaining. The opposite spectrums, as cliche as it sounds, kind of worked. The banter between this couple made me smile and I love it even more when love decided to hit a cynic straight in the face. Let me tell you, Max’s downfall was sweet.

I’m not sure when the change was done but per Goodreads, the series was called Love Wars. Now, it’s changed to Laws of Attraction which I think is a good change. I think it’s fitting since the protagonists, as much as they avoid the inevitable of falling in love, well, they do.

If you haven’t read any of Meader’s work, and like Rom-Com/Contemporary, you should give this book a try.

Down with love is the first book I have read from Kate Meader and I am not disappointed. It is an opposites attract story line where Max is a divorce attorney who sees the ugly side of marriage, it doesn’t seem to last and Charlie a wedding planner who believes a happily ever marriage is achievable with Mr. Right. Unfortunate Max does not fit the bill.
I really liked how even though Charlie has had her own struggles with love and her upbringing that does not damper her wanting a successful marriage. I really appreciated getting the point of view of both characters allowing me to be inside their heads, knowing the reason they were acting the way they did. I loved seeing the progression of their relationship from dislike to love, both trying to resist the undeniable attraction they had for each other.
This was a great start to a new series and I can’t wait to keep reading Meader’s books.

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review
