Down With Love is book one in the brand new series, Love Wars, by Kate Meader.

Max Henderson may have come from money but he lived on what he earned at his job, a job he loved. Max is a divorce attorney. He considers himself a realist. That love isn’t all hearts and roses. Yes his own parents are still madly in love after all these years. But at work, he sees the reality of it, that there is a very ugly side to love. The one time Max let down his own guard he got badly hurt. Now he is a one night per woman type of guy, two tops. He has a good life, he has his routine, and he’s happy with it.

On a night out with his younger brother, his brother had some huge news for him, he was getting married to his girlfriend of all of three months. Yes, Max liked his brother’s girlfriend but it’s a little too fast. So while he is reeling from this news, the whole, eyes meeting from across the bar and sparks flying thing happens. What a perfect way to cope with the news, a hot woman for the night. But then his brother informs him that this isn’t just any woman, it is his wedding planner!

Charlie Love did not come from money. She was a child who was put into the system after the death of her mother and she had severe anger issues. If it weren’t for the foster parents who she ended up with, she wouldn’t be who she is today, a successful business and home owner. Charlie is a wedding planner. She loves her job. Charlie’s foster parents are anxious to see her settle down and she agrees, that she really wants to find her perfect match. But when she let down her guard with her one serious relationship and let him really see who she was, where she came from, he was no longer interested. Now Charlie tries her best to not let too much show. To just let the good parts out and keep everything else suppressed.

Then Charlie met Max. Max stood for everything she didn’t. He didn’t believe in love and she did. She made her money starting out marriages with their dream day. And Max made his by tearing them back apart. So why did she feel that little zing whenever she was close to him? Why did he keep creeping in to her thoughts? Max was not a relationship type of man and even if he were, he is definitely not what she was looking for. But maybe she could just enjoy him for a night to kind of blow out the cobwebs. Then she could get back to looking for Mr. Right.

“I represent everything he despises – i.e., belief in the lasting power of true love.”

When Charlie and Max give in to their chemistry, it is most definitely hot! A sort of role reversal happens though. Max starts to see the prospect of something good here, something he wants to explore. And Charlie is convinced that Max is not the man for her and that this is a one night stand. What Charlie does begin to see, though, is a side to Max she didn’t realize was there. A side that is addicted to old romance movies where the couple always gets their happy ever after. A side that takes care of his clients, long past the usual duties of a lawyer. A side that if she let herself, she could easily fall for.

“His hand in mine is the hot fudge sauce on my sundae, the relish on my dog, the topper on my Christmas tree. His hand in mine is all I need.”

This was such a cute story. There is plenty of humor, plenty of steam, and plenty of sweet moments. I loved how perceptive Max was and how he helped Charlie not to try to hide parts of herself. That those parts were what he loved about her, the whole package. These two were so perfect for each other. This is one of those books that you walk away from with a smile on your face.

If you love the opposite points of view, love/hate relationships then Down with Love is for you. This is an amazing read. You get sucked right into Max and Charlie's banter. The attraction is hard to miss. I love how the world of a divorce attorney and a wedding planner collide. This is a fun and cute read. You will love Max and Charlie. I can't wait for more from this series.

This was such a great book! Charlie Love is a wedding planner who, like her name, believes in true love, though she hasn't found hers yet. Max Henderson is a divorce lawyer who has a very different perspective on love and is determined to look out for his brother, who has proposed and is planning to marry his fiance. I really enjoyed reading the banter between Charlie and Max and the development of their relationship. I would recommend this book to others and look forward to reading more books by this author.

Charlie is a wedding planner and Max is a divorce attorney. They say opposites attract, but I wonder if that pushing it. They do talk a lot though and that might just be the secret to their happily ever after.

I had a difficult time getting through this book. I usually enjoy Kate Meader's books but this one just didn't click for me. The relationship between Charlie (the wedding planner heroine) and Max (the divorce lawyer hero) came across as contrived and not natural. There were also too many other sub plots that I felt overpowered the main story. This is not one that I would recommend. I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.
I loved this book! Max is a divorce attorney who is down on love because of job and past relationships. His brother James has fallen madly in love and is getting married and asks Max to be the Best Man. Charlie is the wedding planner who wants her own happily ever after, but hasn’t been the luckiest in her own love life. These two start off on the wrong foot (literally, as Max steps on her foot), and the initial antagonism, turns into foreplay. I loved all of the characters in this book and I loved that the relationship took time to develop. This is a great start to a new series. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Kate Meader always writes wonderful romantic comedies and this one was great! This is the first time I've read a novel by Ms Meader in first person point of view and I really liked it. Max comes off strong and you immediately get the impression that he hates love, loves being a lawyer and doesn't want to find anyone for the long haul. In comes Charlie and she's all about love (even her last name is Love), especially since she's a wedding planner. Sparks fly when these two meet and it's a lovely story of how they come together.
My only gripe with the book was there were times when Charlie came off as kind of rude or mean and I know it was part of the conflict of the story, but it felt a bit forced. Max was a wonderful hero and he just got sweeter as the book went on.
I also like that Ms Meader is getting us ready for other characters to have their own books as well (can't wait to read about Aubrey and Grant, Lucas' book is going to be interesting). Overall a great book that I would definitely recommend.

This book was a fantastic read! I absolutely love a good romance and this book did not disappoint. I like when stories intertwine couples and friends and how they meet. This book did exactly that. Charlie was the wedding planner to James and Gina. Charlie believed in true love and was trying to meet her soulmate when Max sees her on a date. Max is a Playboy but you learn that deep down he is a Roma tomatoes at heart. Max is immediately drawn to her and finds himself fantasizing about her. Max finds out Charlie is his brothers wedding planner and the playful, flirty banter begins. This story has real depth. I appreciate when romance novels are more down to earth. Not too over the top and Kate Meader does that. When you read a romance you know it's going to have a happy ending. You read for the story for everything that happens in between the happily ever after and this story delivers!

I’ve always enjoyed Ms Meader’s stories, strong female characters who succeed on their own terms...having alpha males along for the ride doesn’t hurt either. But in this story I had a really difficult time connecting with Charlie.

I’m not sure why I was unable to imagine her as nothing more than a two dimensional character on the page because she’s successful, intelligent, independent, has a wry wit and can talk circles around Max, yet in some way she didn’t resonate with me...as do this author’s typical characters who pop off the page larger than life...as did Max.

The story itself was smart, fast paced and engaging, the secondary characters were written in such a entertaining way as to make for a nice segue for future stories in the series.

It's good to see Max has some morals, “foster father, actually, but they’re close. Very close. He walked in on me making out with her. I felt like I was sixteen all over again.” There are times Max's ego gets hurt, "no woman has ever said no to a follow-up jump in the sack with me. Not one." Max leaves no room for his woman to have secon thoughts, “are you sure—” I start, but don’t finish because he clamps both hands on my *** and pulls me into his embrace. His mouth on mine is fire..." I liked this book, I fell in love with Max and Charlie.

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

Charlie (a wedding planner) meets Max (a divorce lawyer) in the run up to Max's brother's wedding and sparks fly. This was well-written and fun, although the plot was a little meandering and Charlie and Max sort of dithered their way to their happy ending. There was a full supporting cast of entertaining friends and family members, some of whom I suspect will get books of their own.

The little quotations about marriage at the beginning of each chapter were excellent, although I suspect some of the vintage film and baseball references passed me by.

I don't normally review a book this early. It's May 18th and the book doesn't release till August! The thing is - I could not review it the same if I waited that long. All this excitement I have for it right now wouldn't come across if I waited and I didn't want that for this book.

My favorite book by Kate is Playing With Fire from the Hot In Chicago series. The hate-love match that Eli and Alex had was off the charts. I still measure all books with the same theme up to that book. It's the gold standard for me. I could read that book over and over again. It's truly one of my favorite books.

"Boners in the presence of father figures." Lucas shudders. "I'm getting a de-rection just thinking about it."

Why am I gushing about that book on this books review? Well, probably because this book has easily become just as epic as that one. The humor was on point, the banter was well-timed and flawless, the chemistry was off the charts. I know Kate can write some amazing stories and she has a skill that makes you feel her words deep in your soul. But this is on a whole new level for her. It's fresh, it's witty, and it's endearing.

"And she's not my type again because?"
"You're a cynic."
Ah, she's one of those. A believer. Okay by me...
"Cynics need blow jobs as well." I say in my most pathetic voice.

Charlie and Max were so different and yet they were so perfect for each other. When they met it was like each half of the same soul saw their other half. I sincerely hope that whatever sparked Kate to start writing stories like this one talks her into continuing it. Their internal dialogue was some of the best stuff I've read in a while. It's hard to explain so I hope you read this and see for yourself. If you have read Kate before, you should check this one out for sure and see her new "voice". Well it's new to me because I've read all of Kate's books and this is different to me.

I could go on and on but in the end all I have to say is...read the book. It's amazing and one I won't forget anytime soon.

I could not finish this book. I've probably read about a hundred books like this but this one for some reason just pissed me off. Why why why can't a girl just be tough or think what she wants without her friends , family and guy she doesn't wants but actually wants have any say. Just let girls be tough and do what they want. Stop writing make believe men that know so much about them but don't want to change them but in the end end up changing them. I guess I'm just tired of the same old smart "tough" and the same old play it smart talking dick.
