It has been so long since I read the first book in this series that I have forgotten about a lot of the characters. My bad.
I'm- really not sure quite what to make of this series. There is plenty of action and adventure, and I think it would be great for a Young Adult audience, but it never really captured me. To me it just felt-very generic. A lot like How to Train Your Dragon (bonded animals, teenage protagonists) with bits and pieces of Lord of the Rings mixed in: the seeing stones are Palantiri and you won't tell me differently.

The only other thing that kind of bugged me was that whenever the characters were injured or about to die there was always a healer on hand. I felt that this removed the stakes from the story, making the danger basically meaningless.

It is an interesting series, and just because it does not capture me does not mean it won't for others. Just my personal taste.

Thanks to the Publisher for approving me for this title on Netgalley. I was not required to write a review and all opinions expressed are my own.

This one felt a little slower than the first one. I struggle to get through it.

It's still a good book, but not my favorite series. I'm still curious to know how it ends and plan on reading the final installment.

Thanks to the publisher for providing me a copy of the book. It did not affect my review.

Thank you to Net Galley and the Publisher for the review copy.

Okay, so I was not aware this was a second book. I was reading it and truly enjoying it but I did stop reading it because I want to read the first book first but since I was enjoying it wanted to get the full story line of this book. I will be back to it but I am rating this on what I read and also based on what I read... I suggest that others read this series as well.

Firstly a disclaimer: I have not read the first book in this series.

Destiny can be cruel - after immersion into many fantasy worlds, I can confirm this is true - Darkness retreated from the light of the scarlet moon, but has since grown even stronger. The Mistress of Shadows has found a new pawn—one that may be the key to unlocking the door to her underground prison. Now evil threatens to escape its shackles and destroy the land.

Amber Eyes, did not disappoint. Constructed from a plethora of deliberate world-building, and character development S. D. Grimm has created a fascinating, and unique fantasy novel. Incorporation of mythical creatures, and playing on the associated plot lines (Animal Bonds, etc.) was done without too much cliche and eye-rolling.

Character development, and relationship development is deliberate and meaningful, but much like other big-authors, this author was not afraid to cull the ones you grow to love.

A nice and enjoyable read. It was entertaining and pleasant.
I loved the characters and the plot was good.
Even if it's the second in this series I had no problems in understanding the characters and what was going on.
I look forward to reading other books by this writer.
