"The Girl with Two Hearts" is a thrilling and atmospheric historical novel that kept me on the edge of my seat. Set in 1850s Manhattan, the story delves into the dark world of grave robbing and body snatching, adding a creepy and suspenseful element. Cora, the protagonist with a unique identity, is a compelling character navigating a dangerous society. The book is well-researched, immersing readers in the time period. I highly recommend this gripping read for fans of historical thrillers.

I really enjoyed this thriller! It's a fast-paced book and I couldn't wait to get back to it to turn more pages. Cora is born out-of-wedlock in the 1850s, the daughter of a socialite and an immigrant. She can live between two societies. But this is a time of grave robbing, body snatching and organ selling, so Cora is in danger. This is a slightly creepy (in a good way) novel, with lots of suspense. I also felt like this was a well-researched book. Thanks so much to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for a free ebook in exchange for my honest review.

This cover is so beautiful and the story lived up to it. I loved how creepy this book got. It had incredible storytelling, this author knows how to keep you interested each and every page.

I really enjoyed Kang's earlier work, but haven't been able to get myself back into YA reading in recent years. Would definitely recommend, but likely will not read.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to finish this book, and cannot provide substantial feedback. I really liked what I have read, and hope to finish it when I have the chance!

This is a brilliant story full of mystery and intrigue. I definitely struggled to begin with - the plot is a bit slow, I struggled to connect with Cora but I think that this is more on me rather than the author. A fun read guaranteed for those who love historical fiction!

Unfortunately, not a fan. While the premise on paper sounds exciting and edgy, in reality I lost my interest very soon. As if all the extraordinary was just the same old, same old as in the stories I have read from several other authors. The likability factor does not work here for me and the twists are lacking credibility. Which is a pity, this kind of setting offers a lot for the edgy, weird, exciting tromps.

This book was such a pleasant surprise! I don't know why it took me so long to read, but I'm so glad that I finally did. Hit that perfect gritty/swoony mix I was looking for. I'll definitely be reading all of Lydia Kang's books now.

I read The November Girl from this author and enjoyed it. I knew she would be an author I would love to read from again. Despite the similarity in title, I really liked The Impossible Girl. I am a fan of historical fiction and it reads easier at the Young Adult level. Beautiful story.

!!!!!!!!! I loved it! First of all the cover is amazing and drew me in right away, but also, two hearts? Immediate Dr. Who vibes and as I am currently bingeing this was SO on my radar. I love a dark historical that doesn't deal w/ the holocaust, so this was amazing, and this was beautifully written. Perfect for fans of the SJTR series, I can't wait to handsell!

This book has all the things I like: creepy Victorian resurrectionists, a girl posing as her own twin brother, and lots of secrets. Cora is a biracial child out of wedlock born with two hearts who also happens to be a resurrectionist, a person who digs up bodies to sell them to medical schools. When Cora receives a request for a body with two hearts, she knows she's in trouble, and she must figure out who has figured out her secret. This is a spooky mystery perfect for the fall. I'll be recommending this to my teens who like scary stuff.

An interesting historical fiction with a touch of fantasy. I'll read anything that promises me mystery and suspense and this one did not disappoint. Cora Cutter, our main character, is such a unique and original character, born with two heart no less. An enjoyable read with just the right amount of darkness shrouding it.

I only just noticed that I never wrote a review for this book. Unfortunately, the book did not download properly when I tried accessing it last year, so I could not read it. Because of this, I only feel it's fair to give it 5-stars because it was a "Could Not Read".

This is the most unique historical mystery novel I have read. Our heroine is Cora Lee, suspected of having two hearts and she is a grave robber living in Manhattan in the 1850's. Cora disguises herself as a man and robs graves to make money and sell cadavers to medical schools and to individuals looking to find bodies with anomalies. This enables her to quickly discover if anyone is looking for a body with two hearts AKA her. Cora is alarmed when people with medical anomalies start turning up dead. This causes Cora to believe she is next.
It was not a shock to me to discover that Kang is in fact a medical doctor, her medical descriptions and knowledge were evident throughout this novel. I loved the medical jargon, the mystery and romance in this novel. 4 big stars!

The Impossible Girl is an exciting romp through the lives of a gang of grave robbers in New York in the mid-1800s. This era is the heyday for medical autopsies and advancement in understanding physiology, and the doctors of the time are searching for medical anomalies to dissect and display. Enter Cora Lee, who herself is an anomaly, suspected of having two hearts. By day she flits about the city and arranges to “procure” the specimens for various doctors once the owners of the bodies have passed away, and by night she’s “Jacob,” her twin brother who does the digging. Only now the people she has her eyes on are dying in unnatural ways, and there’s a high price for anyone who can find the girl with two hearts, dead or alive. The story gets a little grim at times, but it's a unique look into parts of our history that are rarely discussed or written about in a fictional way.

With interesting characters, mystery, and twists....what wasn't to love about this one? It stole my heart(s). :) Thanks for the opportunity to read this one NetGalley. I'll definitely be checking out more by Lydia Kang and I'm very sad I missed her last year at the Decatur Book Festival!
