This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine. Lucy and Justin were well-written characters. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.

Review: Discovering You has a lot of potential.

There was a touch of a historical romance gone wrong. The author hints at souls who have a past life together being reborn. I enjoyed the telling of the noblewoman and the soldier who shared a forbidden love at the start of the book. I spent the entire two-hundred- and thirty-six pages waiting for confirmation or a reason for the start to be relevant. When it didn’t come, I felt let down. We never hear more about the couple from the first chapter, and that left me feeling bereft.

Lucy is an art major, with a passion for her subject, an overbearing mother, and the weight of her wealthy family dragging her down. I liked Lucy’s determination to make it own her own merit sans her family’s reputation and money, and the way she went after her dream job. Seeing her put in her time as an intern as she worked on her thesis was incredibly inspiring, and intriguing.

I enjoyed seeing the inner workings of the museum. Her tendency to be a doormat got old. I wanted to see her make better choices and stand up for herself as the story developed.

When she met Justin, a famous musician who she instantly clicked with, he gave her a small boost of confidence and courage. Their connection felt otherworldly. There were hints that that might be the reincarnation of the earlier couple, but we never got any confirmation or tangible proof., which took away some of the mystical aspects for me. Confident, but new to a serious relationship, the rock star was suave but fallible. I appreciated the realistic way he was portrayed, and the way Ms.McBrien addressed issues that would definitely come up when dating a famous singer.

There was a lot to like about this novel. I just craved more of the paranormal, and more real development between Lucy and Justin. I didn’t feel their bond was more than lust, and I wanted to.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC from Netgalley.

ummmmm, no. Sorry, but this novel just didn't work for me. The sentences were more high schoolish in form than adult. The heroine, so help me, had to be bi-polar. No one in their right mind takes a position on something (mostly dating/going out on a date/seeing the H) in one paragraph and in the NEXT paragraph changes her mind. Next. paragraph. Not 3 pages down the road. It would've been nice to have had some understanding of why she suddenly changed her mind.

My biggest peeve was although it was a full length novel, it didn't end. Apparently, there are going to be 2 - 2 1/2 more in the series? Although, I was so hoping to find out how the prologue tied in with the main story, I just can't read two more books. Just can't do it....

I couldn't really get into this. It was very verbose, and things seemed to move very slowly. I found the history aspects really interesting and loved the sort of past life idea though.

The way the first sex scene (and others that followed) felt very jarring and as though it didn't fit with the style of writing in other scenes. The fact that the first one is also with someone other than the heroine was also a turn-off for me.

When I started reading this book I was really surprised, to the point I wondered if I really had the correct book. And you know what? I did! So, when I was sure I did have the correct book, I immersed myself in the story and got hooked to it real quick.

When Justin and Lucy meet, things do not make sense at all for neither of them, because you shouldn’t feel familiar with a person you just met. Nor you should feel this unbelievable pull towards the other without knowing each other. These two develop between them a slowburn wrapped in feelings of intrigue and wondering. But nothing actually matters when these two discover how much they care for each other and how deeply connected they are, because their hearts knew they belong together.

I just wish the story could have been connected to their pasts, so we could understand a bit better all the emotions developing between Lucy and Justin.

Intriguing and angsty.

Lucy was making the final changes to the spreadsheet. Greg said he would meet her down the hall. Greg is Lucy’s supervisor. Lucy was an intern for the Preston’s art museum. They were having an art exhibition that had taken years to create. Lucy wanted to see the the Varanian Cross. Greg let Lucy hold the cross. Lucy had focused her research on lapis lazuli- an intense blue semi precious stone and the cross was an almost flawless example of lapis. Then Lucy saw the inscription that name Stephano Varangopulus Sebastos which meant he had been a part of the elite Byzantine guard based in Constantinople. Lucy wondered how this man could afford such an extravagant gift. Then why was it engraved. Lucy had sensed a profound loss and fell to the ground as bits and pieces of memories seemed to come to her. Lucy told Greg she hadn’t eaten and had a headache and Greg told her to go home. Lucy’s parents had been involved in fundraising for the Preston for years and are having a party this Saturday night for it. Lucy was proud she got her internship at the Preston without her parents help even if it was the education department. She hoped to get a coveted job in the Preston research department after completing her PHD in art history. Edward Prince was becoming the director of the art museum and it was hoped he would bring a fresh perspective to the museum. Lucy’s best friend was Colleen whom she had known since kindergarten. She reminded Lucy they were to go to see the band Indago. Lucy had a dream about the cross then she had a nightmare. Lucy woke up just as dawn was breaking and she went down to the beach to watch the day start. Justin had a restless night and he always had trouble sleeping when touring and staying up late rehearsing for their next gig didn’t help, he was the lead singer in Indigo. He too went out to the beach to watch the sun come up on the beach. Lucy and Justin met on the beach but she had to take off again as she was chasing her neighbors dog. Then Justin’s manager Graham called and said he needed to to talk to Justin and he had a proposition for Justin. Justin was thirty three and had never been in love. Justin and Lucy meet again at the concert Justin realizes Lucy is the one for him and Lucy is very attracted to Justin.
‘This book wasn’t for me. It dragged a lot for me. I also got a little confused at times. But most of all I hated how this ended in a cliffhanger anyone knows who have read one of my reviews I hate cliffhangers and they ruin they book for me.

Rock star and an art historian!

Lucy Bianchi works at a museum as an intern while she finishes her degree when she touches a byzantine cross that is very different to other crosses from the era because of the engraving on it and has a weird reaction. Lucy runs into a cute guy on the beach while chasing her neighbors dog that had escapes but doesn’t get his name. Justin Hamilton was in town with his band and to have meetings on a possible solo album of his favorite songs by other singers.

Lucy and Justin have a very quick connection to each other but between her interfering mother and her boss trying to date her with her mother’s help, they have a very hard road to travel in their relationship. The time travel flash backs that Lucy has after touching the cross and the similar nightmares they both have are not totally explained when the story ends but that makes me want to read the next book in the series.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

On the plus side this is a a solid romance with great chemistry between the characters and an original story line. On the downside there was so much going on it was a bit confusing at times and it was super long.

It was hard for me to get through this book. There was a lot happening and it happened quite fast without me ever truly feeling the connection between the characters. The heroine was super quick to snap judgements which always rubs me the wrong way but then would just as quick go back to being super into the new relationship. I coudn't ever find a connection to them or to the writing.

Discovering You by Kate McBrien is a steamy read. The heat rises slowly in this novel but once the switch is flipped, it boils over with passion.

Lucy Bianchi is working on her dissertation to get her PhD in art history. She is also an intern at a gallery and is thrilled to have the opportunity to see the Varangian cross. When she sees and handles the cross for the first time, she feels dizzy and gets a headache but thinks no further on it.

Justin Hamilton is part of a band but is beginning strides to become a solo artist. Through his music, he manifests his longing to meet his soulmate.

While recording a few covers, he finally meets her. He doesn’t know how or why but he knows Lucy is it for him.

Upon their first meeting, Lucy and Justin feel an instant attraction and a strong sense of familiarity. How could this be? They have never met before that day…

It seems destiny has brought these two lovers together against all odds but will they be torn apart by circumstance?

Gah! This book was so frustrating! I didn’t realize it was part of a series and it ended on a cliff hanger! (my fault, of course 😊)

Regardless of the above, I was completely invested in their story. I NEED to know what happens!

Discovering You is told in dual POV and told well.

The historical prologue at the beginning of the book was engaging. Afterward, the author let that thread lie which was a bit confusing since there is no more mention of it for the remainder of the book. In my opinion, the author should have left the historical part out or should have made some other reference to it through flashbacks or visions as I believe this historical aspect is pertinent to the story unfolding.

There is OW and OM drama but it is tastefully done. Not too over the top.

Lucy’s character is unsure of herself. She is still under her parents’ thumb and they control so much of her life. I am anxious to see Lucy become independent of them and become confident in herself.

Justin is a wonderfully romantic hero. He is kind and caring but he makes a few mistakes along the way that made me angry!!!

I loved both these characters and absolutely adored them together.

This book was intriguing and I cannot wait to read more about the cross and what power it holds over our two main characters and why.

This was an entertaining read and a great start to a new series.

Good story with a great plot line. The book opens with a prologue from centuries past, where a young woman is pledged to marry someone not of her liking and the man she holds close to her heart is one of an elite guardsman. On the morning before her wedding she runs to retrieve a cross of protection she has made for him and inscribed, made from the finest gold with an inset of Lapis.
Lucy is working on her PhD at a museum and has a penchant for lapis lazuli. When the museum gets a new exhibit in from the overseas, including the cross. When Lucy touches the cross she gets a rush of memories, and is overcome. Begging off with her boss who comes to her aid, she tells him she skipped lunch and he sends her home for the day. She's troubled by what she felt and still has a headache from touching the cross.
Later that evening she meets a stranger on the beach, one who has piercing blue eyes. He gives her his name and Lucy runs off chasing after her neighbors wayward dog. That man is Justin, lead singer for the band Indigo. Her best friend Colleen has tickets for the concert the next night and Lucy tries to get out of going but Colleen pushes her. There she meets Justin again and this begins a very slow courtship of sorts. Lucy working at the museum. Her overbearing witch of a mother, a new museum director who is nasty as they come and a crazy ex who won't leave Justin alone determined to ruin his relationship with Lucy. All this while Justin is cutting a solo album and trying to juggle things with Lucy. Lucy is ultra sensitive especially about her size which sounds to me about average. It's just her mother's constant loop playing in her head.
When the flack hits the fan, Justin tries to shield Lucy and that doesn't work well for her. She tells Justin to go home to England.
This book dead ends at a crucial point in the story. Not even so much as a tapering off. It just stops.
Worked for me, but was surprising. I think the book has a great plot. There are overtones of past lives, soul mates and connections that only the heart understands. My only complaint was the book moved a little too slow for me. I lagged in some places, perhaps it was just me but it seemed to moved at a snails pace. Maybe too much for the flow wasn't quite as smooth as it could have been.
All in all a good read and I'm waiting for book 2.

You know you get one of those books that justs builds and builds until you can’t put it down. This is one of those books. At first I thought what has the prologue got to do with the rest of the story but as you go through it all starts to click. Loved Justin and Lucy. Look forward to the next instalment

I love this kind of story, and they are really hard to come across, so when I saw it at netgalley I had to request it, and fortunately my request was accepted.

I think this book, has a great premise, Lucy and Justin, are perfect together, they have depth and chemistry and their story has the potential to be a life altering reading for us readers, and I´m really anxious for the next one.

But, I have to say that sometimes I felt like the situations against them were kind of forced. I really hope the author can make it better in the next book.
