A very quick read (it's short!) that hits the "meet at work and fall in love" angle in a good way. Alicia might have hired to coach Jack but she finds there's more to him than meets the eye. You know how this one is going to go. Because it's a novella, there's not a lot of space for other characters so you'll be pleased to know these two are well done. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Alicia is a life coach who also coaches her own life to perfection. Taken on by a company to teach life skills to its staff she meets Jack Smith. Jack so reminds Alicia of a man who broke her heart before and she immediately puts up a wall between her and Jack so she doesn’t get her heart broken again. She thinks she can handle Jack, even when he organises a ‘business trip’ to the Lake District and invites her along. One summer weekend is all it takes to turn her life upside down.

My first book by this author. I didn’t like Alicia’s character right at the beginning. I thought she didn’t really give Jack a chance and immediately lumped him in with her ex, just because he reminded her of him. She did seem a little arrogant, but I loved the way Jack began to bring down that wall brick by brick. In contract I loved Jack! Again, initially I felt sorry for him because of how Alicia was with him, but then began to see that he was just a really nice guy! I’d quite happily share a motor home with him!

The later part of the book is set in the Lake District and what could be better! The scenery and location sounded perfect and made the book come to life with the descriptions! It is only a short read novella so is perfect to read in a couple of hours. I’d love to see more of these two in another book, and perhaps a longer one so we can really get to know their characters in more depth! Would definitely recommend for a nice, easy and quick summer read!

The story starts with the initial meeting between Executive Coach Alicia and her prospective client, Chief Exec of Leo Components, Jack Smith. With a reputation as the “babe magnet of the North-West” and handsome to boot Alicia is already having doubts about their business relationship from the word go. Somehow, she ends up being coerced into taking a weekend trip with him to meet one of his business clients having been promised she will be able to hand the client over to a colleague upon her return.

On her arrival in the Lake District Alicia soon realises Jack has an ulterior motive that doesn’t quite sit right with her. She quickly realises that to get through the weekend she must play along, but somewhere along the way the lines between real life and fantasy become blurred and her control of the situation begins to slip. Forced to take a good look at herself and the past that’s been holding her back Alicia has some big decision to make about her future with or without Jack in it…..

When reading the synopsis of One Summer Weekend I knew it had to be added to my “to be read” pile it due to it’s connection to my home County of Cumbria and it didn’t disappoint with it’s wonderfully accurate depictions of the area. I particularly liked the description of driving North on the Motorway as it is a journey I have made more often than I care to admit, and Juliet’s words have captured its stunning beauty to perfection.

Being a reasonably short read it was great to see that it jumped straight into the action with two feet and the fast-paced nature of the writing continued throughout. Despite being a novella, I felt that I was able to get a fully rounded picture of the main characters Alicia and Jack, learning plenty along the way about their past which was a fabulous as I often find character substance lacking in short reads of this kind.

The chemistry between Jack and Alicia is evident from the very first page and sparks fly throughout with the usual “will they, won’t they” question hanging in the air. One Summer Weekend is a fabulously written chick-lit read, just the perfect length to read whilst chilling out and taking it easy in the sunshine.

This is the first time I have read anything by Juliet Archer and I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style. Full of descriptive language yet still a wonderfully easy read it had my attention from the beginning, keeping me turning the pages and hooked until the very end.

One Summer Weekend focuses on Alicia when she meets Jack from a company who have taken her on for her coaching skills. It's obvious there are sparks between the two as soon as they meet, although Alicia tries to fight it all the way.

Alicia does come across as being quite frosty and Jack certainly has his work cut out trying to thaw her. The business trip to the Lake District makes for an idyllic setting and was quite envious of Alicia having a hunky man and stunning views.

Jack was a good love interest being good looking, self assured and someone basically I'm sure most of us would happily fall for. I was certainly interested in getting to know him better.

One Summer Weekend is a novella so didn't take long to read at all. It's ideal if you want a quick and engaging read. With a lovely summery feel cover, it will certainly have you wanting to pack your backs and swan off somewhere nice.

Let me start by saying what a gorgeous cover, I love it so much and it really does give a great feel for one of the two main settings for this book..the other is far more industrial and not as picturesque as the Lake District!

This is a rather short novella, but within it, there is a great deal of character development, and we get to delve into their pasts too, as well as get a hint of what the future may bring.

It is clear from the start that there is some sort of chemistry between Alicia and Jack but Alicia for many reasons is determined to keep her relationship with Jack professional at most, non existent if at all possible.

Unfortunately I wasn't too interested in either of their jobs which made the initial part of the book a bit slow but it is vital set up for their weekend away in the Lake District which is what I really wanted to read about. I loved everything about the weekend and the descriptions of the landscape gave me a great picture in my imagination.

I am really keen for their to be a sequel to this book as I would love to get to know these characters more. This may have been the first book I have read by Juliet Archer but i'm sure it won't be the last.

Thank you to Netgalley and Choc Lit for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
