"The Sheer Nerve" eBook was published in 2018 and was written by Rob Lofhouse. This is Mr. Lofhous' fifth published novel.

I categorize this novel as ‘R’ because it contains scenes of Violence and Mature Language. The story is set in France during 1943. The primary character is British Commando Captain Hook.

The British are able to capture a German submarine. Sailed by British Navy volunteers, they take the sub into a German U-boat facility on the French coast. The Commando company on board then is to attack and destroy or at least severely damage the U-boat facility. While the risks are high, taking out the facility will yield much relief to Allied convoys carrying desperately needed supplies across the Atlantic to Britain.

I enjoyed the 5.5+ hours I spent reading this 255 page World War II thriller. While this is a modern work, it has the feel of a novel from the 40s or 50s. I think better cover art could have been chosen. I give this novel a 4 out of 5.

Sorry, but I am not convinced that British commandos could take over a German U boat - well hijack it actually. Their preparations did not seem too detailed - technical German language would also be a problem. Saying all that, when they got going and sailing to La Rochelle the book comes alive with clever plotting and with plenty of action..I think I will try his book on Crete next.
