Exploding right out of the gates from word one, Wolf Rising reminded me why I love this author’s SWAT series and her writing. As the series progresses so does the strengths of its individual and combined elements. The werewolf police SWAT team continues to amaze as gang warfare, hunter intrigue, and a close-up look at what it means to be an Omega wolf.
Review

Wolf Rising is book eight and I felt its strong ties to the earlier books in the series as ongoing series plot threads and a growing large cast of regular characters make it not a good place to jump into the series.

Jayden Brooks has been with the SWAT team for a long time. Personal tragedy in his early life and a near fatal injury in the early years of his police career are all part of the backstory bringing him to being a member of Gage’s team and pack. While fighting the war on drugs and gang crime, he gets called in for a school shooting in progress and that is when his whole life changes with one look into teacher Selena Rosa’s eyes.
Teaching at a school in the part of town where the gangs have a stranglehold on the kids and success stories for her students are few, but Selena will have it no other way. She’s dedicated to her job and her kids. Her classroom is meant to be a have for them to find some peace and a chance to learn- to get out and make good for their futures. But one flat-eyed newbie gangbanger has to bring a gun and take his bitterness out on her for standing between him and his recruitment efforts. She survives only because a big handsome police officer puts himself between the bullets and her. Her world upends in more ways than one. Jayden is all she could want in a man, but its those crazy things happening to her emotions and her body, the inexplicable strength and acute senses along with desire to sink her teeth into Jayden that terrify her the most.

As I said, this one jumped right into the action with a raid on a drug warehouse and then a school shooting. Jayden is involved in the investigation to find out who the new gangleader consolidating and unifying the gangs and their drug business is even while helping to discover more about the mole in the Dallas PD and the leader of the werewolf hunters.

Jayden was so easy to love from the start and get behind all that happens with him as he discovers his The One, helps two cop friends deal with personal crisis, and stepping in to do what he has to helping Selena with her change.

Ah yes, Selena’s change. It was cool to get it from the beginning as she becomes a werewolf and how it is complicated with feelings for Jayden, her concern for her students, and her hatred of the gangs. She’s a tough cookie and tended to lead with her emotions rather than common sense, but I couldn’t fault her for having a heart for work that most people would rather step back and look elsewhere over.

I thought the author did a great job of painting this new facet of city life and crime these days. She got real and it was gritty, but there was hope and light in the form of people like Selena and a few others willing to give back in these communities.

The mystery element of who was behind things and what was going on wasn’t tough to figure out early on. I still found it suspenseful because I was waiting to see what happened when the second shoe dropped. I’m also very curious about where things will go in the next book after that tantalizing hint toward the end regarding the hunters.

Side trail… that cat who comes to the name Kat was a hoot. She kept stealing the scenes and giving Tuffie a run for cute SWAT mascot pet.

All in all, this was another fabulous and solid entry in the series that read fast because I couldn’t put it down most of the time. Those who love cop romantic suspense paired with a refreshing take on werewolves should give these a try.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well, and I was kept interested. The story has laughs, super-hot alpha wolfs, secrets, and heartbreak.

If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
Hungry Like the Wolf (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #1)
Wolf Trouble (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #2)
In the Company of Wolves (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #3)
To Love a Wolf (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #4)
Wolf Unleashed (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #5)
Wolf Hunt (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #6)
Wolf Hunger (SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #7)

This is Selena and Jayden’s story. Selena was raised around gangs. She lost her brother to one. Now she is a teacher. When one of the gangs is in her class trying to recruit her students, she stands up to protect them. After the traumatic events she starts to change. But her change is different then what Jayden is used to. When he tries to explain what is happening she attacks him and runs. After she comes to terms with what is happening to her she must decide if she wants Jayden not only to help her but to be with her. Can they start a future together when they are still trying to take out the hunters and find out who is behinds them? Can they relax or is a war about to happen with the hunters and the wolfs? When all the secrets are out with the hunters and with Selena will she be okay? Or will it destroy her more to find out so many truths?

I loved these characters and the other wolfs. I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.

I’ve been waiting for Brooks’ book since the beginning of the series. Hells yes. I totally believed the heat between Selena and Jace. I loved their story.

However, I have so many questions like...did we know Carter was an Omega?! What’s up with Kat the cat? Possible shifter? Rachel’s backstory? And poor Zane!! Is he going to fully recover.

Please Ms. Tyler, I’m on edge until your next SWAT book comes out. I need answers!!

This is book 8 in the series, and though it would probably be ideal to start at the beginning to pick up on the worldbuilding I suspect was done earlier in the series, it wouldn’t matter too much if you started here. All the minor characters are sketched in well enough for you to get an idea of who they are, and the two protagonists are thoroughly fleshed out with plenty of meaty backstory to get your teeth into.

Jayden Brooks is one of Dallas’ all-werewolf SWAT team. Once you accept the existence of an all-werewolf SWAT team and the fact that anyone with a particular recessive gene can become a werewolf if exposed to a traumatic enough event, you’re pretty much home and hosed as far as suspension of disbelief goes. Physically, Brooks is one of the biggest on the team, six and a half feet of muscle, a handsome black man who occasionally reads almost too good to be true. He cooks, he cleans, he can dance, he loves puppies. It’s no surprise the heroine, Selena Rosa, a beautiful Latinx teacher he rescues from a hostage situation, has a hard time believing he’s single.

Werewolves, however, get fated mates in this universe. They call it The One, and it’s not exactly clear here what makes one were The One for any other, apart from an overwhelming physical attraction.
Selena’s a teacher at a school in an area with serious gang problems, and she spends most of her free time as well as her working hours trying to give her students a reason to stay out of gang troubles. While she’s fighting these battles and dealing with transforming into a werewolf, Brooks has a different problem - a team of hunters out to kill any werewolf they can find.

There are some pretty spectacular confrontations in the book, and one thing I really liked was that Selena was never held back from the action. In fact, her choices led to major breakthroughs on cases Brooks had to deal with. There were really hot sex scenes between the two as well, though being werewolves things did get a bit rough (read; claws and teeth make things messy).

All in all I really enjoyed this, even though starting here in the series meant I had to take some worldbuilding things on faith. There were a few obvious Easter Eggs planted for later books in the series (the cat called Kat who isn’t afraid of werewolves, for example) but I’d definitely be happy to read any more of the SWAT werewolf books! Five stars for an excellent paranormal romance!

WOLF RISING is an explosive addition to the SWAT series with sexy scenes and intense action. This book tackles serious inner city gang drama with two heroes who have both lost nearly everything to gang violence.

Selena kicked ass before she became a werewolf. She is a teacher in the neighbourhood she grew up in, sticking around for the kids in her classes even though she lost her own brother to gangs. Her conviction, even as the violent omega werewolf she is becoming fights for control, is rock solid and she will do anything to protect her students.

Although no less devoted to his work, Brooks is a large teddy bear of a man, who unfortunately becomes the main target of the werewolf hunters as they assume the largest wolf will be the leader of the pack. He’s not, but that doesn’t stop the hunters targeting him - and Selena.

I’ve said before that I love how the mythology of the SWAT novels has evolved and that holds true for WOLF RISING. We don’t get an isolated story about a couple meeting; we get a self-contained adventure that helps the world and the story progress, and I really appreciate that in a paranormal romance/suspense romance novel. We learn new things about omega werewolves; the ultra violent weres that cannot be part of a pack.

I felt the main villains were a bit predictable, but it in no way reduced my enjoyment of their eventual violent comeuppance. This book could be read as a standalone, but you’ll have more fun if you’ve read the previous books.

What a great way to wrap up this spooky month of October.

Nothing is like ending the day with a good book. I chose Paige Taylor’s book Wolf Rising, book #8 in the SWAT series. The book started like all the rest in the series, explaining how the hero or heroine first turned. What I thought was interesting about Wolf Rising is how Taylor took what is happing in our schools and incorporated into Wolf Rising story. I want to give props to Paige because she didn’t overdramatize or romanticize the topic.

In Wolf Rising, Jayden Brooks was an officer but when responding to a call at a local school, of a man wielding a knife, he didn’t know by responding to that call, his life would never be the same.

Selena Rosa a school teacher who wanted to save her students from the life she herself escaped from. The life of living with gangs. Selena lost her brother during a gang war, she refuses to lose one of her students to that life. She put all her time and efforts towards keeping her students in the classroom and boosting their confidence. Until a gang member enters the school trying to recruit members. Selena again put her words into action and put her life on the line, to the put that her actions had consequences that even she didn’t know about.

Once again it was Brooks and his elite team of brothers who answered that call. But where one life change at the beginning of the story, two individual’s life will be altered by the end.

Wolf Rising, a fantastic quick story that any fan of paranormal romance will come to enjoy. I loved the chemistry between Brooks and Selena. It was even a plus when Selena turns out to be a wolf shifter, but not your everyday variety shifter but an Omega.

Wolf Rising, a PNR you will most certainly want to add to your bookshelf. A unique story that will keep you entertained well into the night.

SWAT – Sexy, Wonderful, Awesome, Terrific – that is what else the letters for SWAT can be in regards to the newest mission for these werewolves. Jayden’s in trouble when he catches the most irresistible scent of the high school teacher he rescues and Selena’s werewolf gene has flipped on in the wake of the traumatic experience. Together these two strong, dynamic characters have a sizzling chemistry that not only electrifies the pages but the readers as well while they take on all the turmoil and changes that they find themselves in. This relationship is scorching hot and quite sweet and readers easily become enamored with Jayden and Selena and want to know every last detail of their story.

Twist and turns, sweet romance and life altering changes can be found throughout this fast paced plot with lots of explosive excitement and thrilling suspense that keeps readers on the edge of their seat as hunters stalk the werewolves, a wedding turns deadly and cops betray their own. This series just keeps getting better and better and I find that I want to read it over and over and over again because I can’t get enough of all the sexy werewolves, wonderful romance, awesome twists and terrific plots that the author keeps creating in her fascinating world that has its own werewolf SWAT team which really just can’t get any sexier than it already is and did I mention HAWT!

I really liked this I love firemen, hunky guys, and a strong woman. This was a fast-paced story. For a paranormal romance, it was well developed. This series is getting better with each installment. Can't wait for the next book. Enjoy this in the meantime.

This is the 8th book in the series and while I've only read a couple of the books, it really didn't detract from the story. I would recommend reading in order if you want to have all of the info available but it isn't impossible to read these books out of order and still enjoy them.

Jayden is trying to deal with the gangs when he comes across Selena who is also trying to deal with the gangs in her area. He's a SWAT officer and has seen a lot of action and been hurt his fair share of times. He would like to find his soul mate and he thinks he's found her when he meets Selena.

Selena is a high school teacher who gets herself in trouble with the gangs because she can see things going on that shouldn't be going on and she wants to try and help stop it. Her meddling puts her in danger and almost gets her killed. In steps Jayden who helps her. Selena can't understand why she's getting so angry all the time but Jayden knows why and intends to help her understand what's going on.

Not only is Jayden trying to gently tell Selena that she's turning into a werewolf but he and his team are also trying to keep themselves and her safe from the werewolf hunters who see them as nothing more as animals that need to be killed. They find out that there's a mole somewhere in the police department and they are helping the werewolf hunters. They're trying to figure out who this person is as well as keep themselves safe. It's hard to imagine that you can't even trust the people you might be working with.

They also have to deal with a gang leader putting a new drug out there in drinks which has really bad consequences. This gang leader was a mystery for most of the book but I had a feeling of who he was and I was right. The twist in the story that this led to was just sad and I felt really bad for Selena when she had some things she thought she knew, go belly up and turn out to be lies.

If you've been reading my reviews for a while you already know how much I love PNR and wolves or shifters tend to be one of my favorite pnr elements. This has that as well as all the action, suspense, drama and romance you could want. I really enjoyed Jayden and Selena and loved watching them get to know one another. At times this book made me laugh because Selena was funny and I loved how she freaked out the first time she realized she was biting Jayden. But these two are hot when they get together. The lust they felt for each other right away was so much fun to watch and see how they tried to fight it for a little while with little success.

Disclosure: I was sent this ebook free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review but all opinions are my own.

One thing you can count on with Paige Tyler each story will be unique. Jayden and Selena’s story did not disappoint on that front. I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. This series continues to get better with each new book. I really enjoy the departure from the typical wolf shifter books this series and author provide.

What a great way to wrap up Halloween — with a sexy paranormal suspense! Paige Tyler is back with the eighth book in her popular Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT) series, WOLF RISING. Let me tell you, these are not the mindless, snarling beasts driven by the moon, like in 'An American Werewolf in London.' Nope. Tyler’s SWAT series is populated by sexy, capable wolves with control over their supernatural gifts, a penchant for power and a tendency to fall in love.

The action takes place in Dallas, home to SWAT officer Jayden Brooks and high school English teacher Selena Rosa. Two different people from two different walks of life — but destined to be together. After all, Selena is The One.

Good thing Selena is as strong as she is, because it takes guts to teach in the middle of the Terrace Grove Locos territory. Though she grew up in the middle of gang territory, she chose to stay and make a difference, to try to keep the kids in her neighborhood on the right path. Getting caught up in a hostage situation with the local gang, however, threatens that bravado.

In Tyler’s world, “People who had a mutated gene buried in their DNA turned into werewolves if they went through a traumatic event.” WOLF RISING gives us two origin stories. Brooks had a run-in with a wild man wielding a machete five years ago, while he was a sheriff’s deputy in Gulfport, Mississippi. And now, Selena’s violent hostage situation has triggered her werewolf gene.

This is an exciting series, with just enough of a supernatural tilt to make the idea of werewolves believable. Tyler balances the series-running storylines of the hunters who’ve been after the wolves for years and a mole in the Dallas PD with this installation’s gang and drug plot. It’s a bit of a cautionary tale … even though Dallas is a “city full of werewolves,” they’re not the monsters we should be afraid of. It’s totally unputdownable.

Once again we meet the werewolves of our SWAT team - and once again I found myself glued to my reader. Even when I just wanted to scroll through it to refresh my memory when I was writing this review, I was pulled in once more and ended up reading it - again.
Gripping, captivating and full of suspense from the first page to the oast, this book was amazing! And Selena and Brooks, well, I loved those two! Oh, and there're brownies. You can never go wrong when there are brownies involved, right?
Anyway - those two made me chuckle and laugh, swoon and I worried with them when things got rough and complicated. I loved learning more about the pack and the different kinds of werewolves and I loved learning more about "our" team and its members.
A highly enjoyable book with a great story and some really amazing characters! I'm looking forward to the next book in this series and I can't wait to finally read it!

It is always so easy to fall back into Paige Tyler’s werewolf team series. I have yet to find one that I did’t love, even if I did’t like some characters or their actions. Wolf Rising brings Jayden’s chance to hind his “one”… and he gets a lot more than he ever expected in Selena.

I loved Selena. She’s confident, takes no crap from anyone, loyal to a fault and completely wrapped up in her students. Unfortunately, she and her students live in a gang controlled area and keeping her students out of the clutches of the gangs is an ongoing battle. Some she wins, others are not so lucky. This day Selena is being held hostage in her classroom by a gang member – and life as she knows it is about to change forever.

Almost immediately upon arriving at the scene Jayden catches that special scent, the one that will lead to his mate – but there’s more to that scent and it couldn’t happen at a worse time. Every member of the team knows personally that the werewolf gene is switched on by a traumatic event… and being held hostage has just switched that gene on in Selena. Even more problematic? She’s an omega, strong and out of control. Now it’s up to Jayden to not only introduce his mate into their paranormal world but to show her just what she is to him as well.

Wolf Rising is intense, sexy and once again grabbed my attention until the final page. Jayden and Selena have more to deal with than her turning and their attraction. We’ll discover who the insider is. And add more information about several sub-plots. In some ways this story feels like a turning point, but I’ll have to see if I still feel that way when the next story comes along. In all, I completely enjoyed myself in this world once again. I don’t like to slip on spoilers, so I’m often vague with suspense novels… but this one is intriguing, and if you’ve read the rest of the series you’ll definitely want to pick up Wolf Rising. I’d not hesitate to recommend this story or the entire series to any reader of Paranormal Romance or Suspense – you’ll find yourself quickly captured by this series.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Every book in this series is a winner in my opinion. Nothing like combining wolf shifters and SWAT officers. Full of action, romantic suspense and hot sex. All my favorite things to read.

Jayden Brooks isn't thinking he'll find "THE ONE" like his teammates but when he goes into a high school classroom of Selena Rosa he suspects he's found her. Selena has been trying to drag her students away from gangs since she lost her family to gang violence. She's confronted by one of her former students, Pablo, who's bullying and belittling his "best friend" Ruben when things escalate out of control. This traumatic experience triggers her latent wolf genetics and brings her to Jayden's attention as he tries to defuse the confrontation. The story continues as Selena rapidly shows her new confusing wolf powers and finds herself in the middle of gang unification war and distribution of the illegal drug fentanyl. Add to that the werewolf hunters closing in and the SWAT pack trying to discover who's giving up their locations within the police department. This is a jam packed book that is so HOT. I just adore Paige's stories. Thank you Paige and Sourcebooks for allowing me to review this book.

The clash of werewolves Brooks and Selena is freaking hot! Wolf Rising, SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #8, is a sexy, action-packed romantic suspense. This was my first time reading this series by New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, Paige Tyler and it was so freaking good! Now, I need to go back and read the other 7.

At first, I will admit, I was a little lost on how Brooks became a werewolf but it all unfolded as the book progressed. Brownie points to Paige Tyler on how they become a werewolf. Rather than the typical getting bit and turning, in this series, it is a genetic mutation. That right there has reeled me right into the series.

SWAT Officer Brooks: Freaking tall, broad, silky dark chocolate Brooks… swoon. My brain bounced from Shemar Moore to Idris Elba throughout this book. Heck throw them in the air and make a hybrid of the two. Just that yummy. He was the perfect alpha for Selena. Well, he is an “Alpha” werewolf but he is able to handle Selena during her transformation into an “Omega” werewolf.

High School Teacher Ms. Selena Rosa: I really liked her character. She is a teacher, a protector, a momma bear through and through to her students. She teaches in the same rough neighborhood that she grew up in. She has become somewhat of a buffer between the gangs and her students and she is ok with it. But when she gets caught between one of her students and a gang member, it triggers the gene mutation causing her to become a werewolf. And this little lady can kick some serious booty!

This would be an awesome tv series. It's a must read book And should be added to your TBR list.

Jayden Brooks was just doing his job. He put himself in the line of fire to prevent a teacher from being shot by one of her students. As he was carrying her out to the ambulance, their eyes met and something clicked between them. He wasn't sure what happened, just that he could not stop thinking about her.

Selena Rosa was determined to keep as many of her students as possible away from the gangs. Even so, she did not expect one of her students to come into her classroom and try to kill her. She was saved from that attempt by SWAT officer Jayden Brooks. In addition to her wanting to see him to thank him for saving her, she wanted to see him because she couldn't stop thinking about him.

As Selena and Jayden start to get to know each other, Selena notices she's going through some unexplained changes. Jayden also notices but he knows what the changes mean. Can he convince Selena of what's happening, keep her for himself, and also keep her safe from all the danger surrounding SWAT and the gangs?

I love this book. As always, the opening scene gives us a look into how one of our heroes activates the change. Then we follow up with where they are now with SWAT. Brooks may be my favorite to date. He hits all my favorite things from appearance to putting family first. Selena has not been through a major physical trauma yet her body is changing anyway. The Pack is going to have to have to tell her something soon and figure out why it is happening at such a rapid speed. I definitely recommend this book, and the whole series, to my friends. Gangs, prison breaks, drugs, guns, and sex are all in this fast paced adventure.

Ms. Tyler has a novel theory on how werewolves are created. She's been pretty good about giving us the back ground for each of her werewolf characters and the defining moment that made them a werewolf. We now get to witness live as Serena lives through her transformation. To complicate things is her attraction to the SWAT officer who came to her rescue. Are they the ONE for each other? I love how this story starts with a bang and keeps on going...…..
Serena hates gangs, she's a crusader trying to work with troubled teens in her class and coaching them to stay away from drugs and the neighborhood gangs. Things come to a head when fight between two of her students turns violent and she's facing the wrong end of a gun. Fortunately SWAT is on the scene and Jayden gets between Serena and the bullets meant for her. Serena however does not come out whole in this incident as she's rushed off the hospital. It seems that the incident has sparked her own DNA and caused her to start turning into a werewolf.
What with a new drug on the scene and a new extremely organized enemy as well as escalating gang warfare, Dallas SWAT and Jayden are pretty busy. However with Serena and Jayden both experiencing a strong case of lust, Jayden is going to have to devote some time to wining and dining and winning the fair Serena. Also when Jayden figures out what's happening, he's the one stuck trying to explain to Serena about werewolves. Well he definitely solves that one by just showing her what he means.
The story starts off with a bang with lots of action and adventure and just keeps going. This is a another solid entry in this series.

WOLF RISING is the amazing continuation of author Paige Tyler's SWAT series and I believe it is the best so far. The characters are well rounded in the fact that Brooks and Selena both know what they want in life and go for it. Her world is slightly derailed by a number of things and turning wolf is the least of them as the readers learn later in the book, a lot of things she believed to be truths turned out to be lies.

There are, of course, some funny moments, especially when Connor explained to Brooks that the cat that had wandered into their world had named herself -- hilarious when he proved it. And let's not forget the romance between the star couple, it was instantaneous and steamy, but even that has some rough moments when she partially shifts during intimacy and freaks. Worry not all works out in the end but getting there is heartbreaking yet funny. Picture a naked SWAT guy chasing after a hysterical woman who's stolen his truck and there are witnesses.

If you love hunks in uniform, a spitfire heroine, drama, danger, intrigue, and some really steamy moments then get your hands on WOLF RISING .

This was another awesome read in the SWAT series. I have been waiting for Jayden to get his story and I was not disappointed! Jayden is the epitome of an alpha male and Selena is perfect for him. I loved her attitude...she was quite the spitfire and just who Jayden needed. Paige writes characters and storylines that are easy to get lost in. I can't wait for the next book!
