Eye of the Ninja was an exciting thrill ride! I feel horrible that it took me so long to get to it (had issue with my cornea and eventually needed a transplant) but I'm glad I was finally able to read it. Even though I've lost my love for the fantasy genre, this story was pretty darn brilliant. I'll definitely recommend it to my fantasy loving friends!

Eye of the Ninja sounded like something I would really like but, I don’t think it’s for me. It’s not this book but me. It just wasn’t what I have been looking for lately. I don’t have anything negative to say about this book. Just that it wasn’t for me.

"Eye of the Ninja" eBook was published in 2015 and was written by D.M. Marlowe (http://www.dmmarlowe.com). Ms. Marlowe has published three novels in her "Eye of the Ninja Chronicles" series. This is the first novel in the series.

I categorize this novel as ‘PG’ because it contains scenes of Violence. The story is set in the near future. Earthquakes and other disasters have claimed the 'ring of fire' around the Pacific leaving Japan devastated.

The primary character in the story is young Mei Barrett. She has been raised by her father and trained in the Ninja arts. When he is killed she spends four years in hiding. She suffers from a mutation of her eyes that draw attention to her where ever she goes. She must avoid any attention if she is to continue to avoid the wind demon that killed her father.

She finds that there are others that are fighting the demons. Others that knew her mother and father. Others that may become the friends, the allies, and the family that she has been missing.

I enjoyed the 8+ hours I spent reading this 277 page young adult fantasy. There is a lot of Japanese cultures embedded in this novel. I also felt that it was a little disjointed, particularly in the beginning. It also seemed to end more abruptly than it needed to. It is a mixture of martial arts and the supernatural. I do like the cover art. I give this novel a 3.8 (rounded up to a 4) out of 5.

I received an early release copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I struggled to continue reading this book. Its pacing wasnt consistent enough for me, parts of it I felt extremely confused and lost as pieces weren't lining up for me. I was really hopeful for this book but it didn't fulfill my reading need. Mei seemed like a character I could love but the connection never happened for me.

1 out of 5 stars

It's a 3.5 for me. I liked the way it started. It had a few slow bumps for me within the handful of chapters it took them to start seeing other dangers and allies, but things picked back up when they were closer to Ryu, their destination. This is the first I've read of the author and her writing style is pretty cool. Easy to sink into. Things were a lot more exciting when Mei was at Ken's village, mainly because you finally get to know what's really going on.

This was one that I just gradually lost interest in over time. I started off really excited by the idea of this book, but nothing in the writing compelled me to keep on reading, and I also never really connected to the characters. I liked Mei, but I never really felt like her character had a lot of depth, and I didn't fully understand her motivations.

The plot pacing also didn't really feel consistent. Some parts dragged whereas some parts moved at a faster pace. I'm not sure if this was actually the writing, or just me being disinterested, but the story didn't really work for me.

Fresh plot, great action combining a mix of mystery, action and paranormal elements with with interesting characters, creating a wonderful book that I really enjoyed.
