Great quick summer read. This book deals with emotional conflict, stages of grief when a death occurs. It is not overly sappy or religious. Family relationships between mothers daughter's and children are also explored. Well developed characters and it is easy to follow the main character's chain of thought during her medical recovery and grieving process. Thought provoking regarding how life can "throw you a curve" .

I've always enjoyed this authors books and this was no exception. Such a beautifully written and heartfelt book on how a life can suddenly take many different turns and things can be happening around us that we have no idea of. Much love and support in this book through so many challenging life events. Loveable characters, especially my favorite, Winston the Golden Retriever.

I would categorize this book as women's fiction with some suspense thrown in. You find yourself really rooting for the main character Abbie after a strange car accident (in which her husband's car crashes into hers) leaves her reeling as her husband dies and she is left with some strange medical issues. She also suffers through many emotions as she finds out her husband wasn't quite who she thought he was. A good read and a satisfactory ending.

This book had me taking a crazy ride with the main character, Abbie MacIntyre. My emotions were pulled into the deepest of tragedy only to find that they weren't quite at the bottom yet as the story progressed. (tissues required) My emotions ranged all through the spectrum from deep sadness, to heartache, to anger, to unbelief, to love, to forgiveness, to happiness.... My heart went out to Abbie so much. I found myself pulling for her to come through each event finding strength and courage to face each day. From the horrifying event at the beginning of the story to shocking revelations, I was captured in Abbie's life. The faithfulness of her dog, Winston, won my heart. He was a great thread through the story to keep her pushing on and bringing her through with unconditional love.
I want to thank Lake Union, Netgalley and Julianne MacLean for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.

This was an emotionally gripping, well-written book. Abbie is a successful surgeon, is married to a handsome cardiologist she loves, and they have a model teenage son who is months way from heading off to college. Then a drunk driver hits her car and she is rushed to the hospital. Secrets are discovered and her recovery and search for answers will test her and change her life forever. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading other books by this author.

This was a great summer read. Kept my interest from the first page. Kind of a typical romance novel that I'm not a big fan of, but I enjoyed this book for a change of pace.

It’ s been a long time since I read a book in one day but I did yesterday. This book hooked me on the first page and I had to see what happened. I don’t want to spoil anything but please read this book! You won’t regret it!

Julianne MacLean writes from the heart and invokes emotions that only an accomplished and skillful writer can do. This newest title explores that was appears on the surface really is just that----the surface. Wonderful characters, a suspenseful storyline and the writing skills of this author helped to create a beautiful story. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to have read this title prior to publication--- it was a total joy!

I love this author’s books and. Curve in the Road is no exception. Well written plot with well developed characters. It was hard to put this book down. Have your tissues ready. Highly recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my ARC

I'm going to say that I really liked 75% of this book. The beginning made it impossible for me to put it down. The ending was mostly satisfying. The part that seemed to go off in another direction was when she starts having hallucinations about people being in the house and conversations that don't really happen. It almost seemed to me like someone is trying to make her feel crazy or set her up. It seemed to want to be a thriller, but then it wraps up almost too neatly. I would definitely read more by this author because most of it really kept my interest.

I found A Curve in the Road a bit too predictable and too formulaic. Once it becomes known that the other driver is Abbie’s husband, it’s too easy to foretell much of why he was driving under the influence. Once the vet is asked to treat Winston, his role in the story is too easy to foresee. I thought that the stages of grief that Abbie undergoes are believably presented, but at times the narrative gets too repetitive. While meant to be uplifting as Abbie struggles to adjust to her new reality, at times A Curve in the Road gets too sappy and overly sentimental. There is an upbeat ending - All’s well that ends well. Oh well.

An emotionally charged story that kept me on the edge of my seat. It is quite the page turner, a romance and a bit of a mystery wrapped into one. I hard a hard time putting it down and couldn't stay away for long. You'll want to keep tissues close at hand too.
Julie MacLean is such a wonderful author, I have already read several of her books and consider her one of my favorite authors.
Thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for the chance to read this book. It definitely deserves a big 5 stars in my opinion.

Great story! All about what happens to one woman when her comfortable perfect life throws her a "curve". In Abbie's case, several. She deals with all stages of grief in the healing process. Very well written. You feel Abbie's emotions throughout the book. I love this authors series "The Color of". and this stand alone also.

What an emotional book! Abbie is a surgeon who leaves her moms house driving home when she’s involved in a wreck with her dog. Her husband is also a MD and she tries to reach both him and her son to inform them of her wreck. There are several twists and turns in this book as the book unfolds and Abbie is soon faced with overwhelming, shocking news that leaves her heartbroken.
Thank you to Netgally for allowing me to review this excellent book.

A Curve in the Road by Julianne MacLean is an encouragement to the human spirit novel. No matter what life throws at you there are always positive reactions available. It takes much less out of the individual to stay positive and truthful. Negativity and anger and everything associated with it are depressing and draining. This was a fast summer read. Thanks Net Galley and Lake Union Publishing for the chance to read this book.

A Curve In The Road by Julianne MacLean is an excellent heart wrenching story, and I .could not put it down! Tissues required for this one!! The plot is so well written and I love the writing and I cried with the characters which were well developed and so likeable. First I've read by this author but now interested in exploring more! A firm 5 stars!

Was a great read! I cried and was angry all the emotions that the characters went through. This story grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let go until the end. There were surprises I didn’t see coming, the author keeps you hanging by a thread. Such a great read, you will be glad you read it!

A life that looks perfect and polished on the surface begins to tragically unravel with stunning momentum. On the most ordinary of days successful surgeon Abbie MacIntyre's car is hit head on by a driver crossing the median at a high speed. That driver is killed and when Abbie, rushed to the ER, learns his identity her world instantly crumbles and her life will be forever, irrevocably altered.
The story unfolds perfectly, almost like a camera panning back until Abbie is able to clearly see the real life she had going on. You will be glued til the end.

Even though this story deals with grief, lies, and betrayal....the end result is an amazing story. There is healing and forgiveness that happens and turns it around. Abbie finds out that her husband is not the man she thinks he is after a horrendous accident - that she herself is involved in. Her character development is well written and the people in her life are very likable.
This is the first book that I have read by this author. Looking forward to checking out her other stories.

A Curve In The Road by Julianne MacLean is a contemporary novel that deals with grief, betrayal and learning to live again. I read it in just one sitting. It was totally beautiful and heart wrenching. Tissues were needed as my emotions were shot to pieces.
Julianne MacLean writes novels that go straight to the heart. Her characters are realistic and likable. Dealing with grief is complex. We go through a range of emotions. "I'm so angry... Yet I can't bear his absence." Anger is normal. We hate the person for leaving us to cope alone. "Part of me wishes he were alive so I could kill him myself." This paradox is totally understandable - in our hurt and pain we just want to lash out but really all we want is the arms of our loved one around us again. Grief stinks. We just need to work our way through it in whatever way we can.
The novel explores the role of mothers. Mothers are the rock that keeps the family together. No matter how old we get, we still need our mum.
Family dynamics are varied. We see both loving and dysfunctional families.
Life is full of ordinary superheroes. "The police officers... the firefighters and paramedics... I feel as if this town is full of heroes." We salute the kind, compassionate and caring superheroes doing their job every day.
What happens when the life you thought you had is a lie? What do you do when you cannot confront the offender? The reader totally understands the conflicting emotions.
I loved the inclusion of Winston, a golden Labrador. He was as much of a character as the human ones. My heart was torn in two at times. His love and loyalty knew no bounds.
A Curve In The Road was a perfectly wonderful emotional read that tore me apart and put me back together again.
I received this book for free from Net Galley. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
