Love this series and this book. As always a book by Johansen is hard to put down and makes you want to read to see what happens and how it ends. This is no different. One of my favorite series and for me always a yes.

Another great thriller by Iris Johansson. She is such an amazing storyteller! Fast paced and edge of your seat storyline.

Tragically, Carl Venable, who has been pivotal in CIA Agent Catherine Ling's life has been mortally wounded and when Jude Brandon finds him, Venable asks him to find and protect his daughter Rachel. Will Brandon be able to locate Rachel and keep her free from danger? Brandon does find Rachel, but she is unwilling to follow him to safety until she completes something that is very important to her.

Meanwhile, the clinic she runs in Guyana is attacked by a man named Huber and he will do anything to get his hands on Rachel. Brandon and Rachel race to get one step ahead of Huber, and this includes pulling Catherine Ling in to assist. Catherine is a superb agent but Huber is pulling out all the stops to create a dangerous situation every step of the way.

Rachel had a difficult past and was estranged from her father. However, she excelled in a unique way as she became under the protection of the enigmatic Hu Chang when she was a teenager, much like Catherine Ling. Rachel went on to become a doctor and uses both skills in order to succeed.

I loved this book by Iris Johansen. Before reading this book and series, I binge read the Eve Duncan series. This series is just as compelling. This story moves at a rapid pace and is truly thrilling. I also love how there is always a bit of romance in these connected series. I really enjoy Catherine and her son Luke and hope to see more of them in the future.

Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This is the first book I've read in this series. I did not enjoy it as much as the early Eve Duncan books. The main character, Rachel, basically got on my nerves. The book drags in places and it made it difficult for me to stay invested in the story.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

We have all read them, those books that say they are “fast-paced, edge of your seat thrillers”, the kind that reminds you of the ultimate James Bond and Jason Bourne movie combined into one. These books are the ones that start on page one with danger and don’t stop until the last page.
They promise that you’ve never seen a thriller like this before and you will barely have a chance to catch your breath.
So you get the book and plop yourself down on the couch ready for a rollercoaster ride of an afternoon but suddenly you start reading and you realize that an afternoon of nonstop action and adventure turns into a ride on the baby rollercoaster that even four year olds aren’t afraid to ride. You eventually get off the so-called thrill ride and tell yourself that there’s an afternoon that I won’t get back.
So it’s easy to find yourself skeptical and cautious when the next so-called thriller comes out.
Well let me say that there are books that deliver that stomach in your throat feeling and Iris Johansen’s, Vendetta, will have you wishing for and wanting more than the 404 pages we are given.
As Carl Venable, CIA terrorism task force head, is shot and lies dying, his last request to Agent Jude Brandon is to keep his daughter Rachel safe.
Rachel Venable, currently in Guyana as a medical researcher has baggage of her own. Protecting her will not be an easy task.
While protecting Rachel is job enough, Brandon must also take down Max Huber. He and Rachel must figure out a way to stop Max Huber before he sets off a nuclear weapon that will change the geographical map of the West Coast. While protecting Rachel and stopping the bombing of the West Coast, Brandon also knows that Max Huber has a personal vendetta against Rachel. Max’s father was killed - you guessed it, by Rachel.
In a race against time, Brandon and Rachel’s longtime friend and protector Catherine Ling, take up the job of protector and savior simultaneously.
404 pages of nonstop action, intriguing characters, well planned plot, and attention to detail make Vendetta a blockbuster thriller.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley. #netgalley #vendetta

Thrilling story with a plot that kept me turning the pages, really well written with great characters. Highly recommend to everyone who is a fan of this genre.

This is the fifth Catherine Ling book. I"ve read other Iris Johansen books but none in this series but I was not disappointed! This was a fun and exciting read with all the action and intrigue you expect. Lots of characters. almost too many, but the pace kept me reading until the very end.

I recommend this book.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I would like to thank St. Martin's Press, NetGalley, and a Goodreads Giveaway for the opportunity to read Vendetta. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.

As Carl Venable, head of the CIA task force on terrorism, lay dying, his only thoughts as of his daughter, Rachel. Dispatching his associate, Jude Brandon, to keep Rachel safe from a mastermind terrorist determined to bring both her and the country down, will Brandon be able to keep his promise to the dying man? With Catherine Ling and Hu Chang providing well needed assistance, can the team get to Max Huber before he destroys them all?

The Iris Johansen books as of late are extremely disappointing, comprised of formulaic plots, as well as overly descriptive and exuberant language. Instead of letting the action unfold naturally, allowing the reader to use their imaginations to picture the characters reactions and feelings, the author tells it all. Using short phrases or words to describe situations or emotions, like a comic book, this choppy style of storytelling completely ruins the novel. This is another spin-off with another cliffhanger ending and I really could not have cared less. I am a voracious reader, but it took me two solid days to finish. I did not enjoy this novel and truly wish that the author would go back to the Eve Duncan novels the way that they were written in the beginning. I have read all of the aforementioned novels, as well as their counterparts, but I will not devote any more time to this author.

As a fan of Iris Johansen, I eagerly awaited this new book.
As the fate of the world is threatened, there is time for a love connection.
Not my favorite of the author's works.

CIA head of terrorism Carl Venable has been shot. As he lays dying, he tasks Jude Brandon with keeping his daughter Rachel safe from terrorist Max Huber. At first Rachel is not interested in any help, but she soon changes her mind as they slowly discover the evil plan that Huber has. They also get assistance from Catherine Ling, a CIA operative. And so begins this fast paced story to stop a major disaster to the USA's west coast planned by Huber while keeping Rachel out of his destructive grip.

It's always a gamble to start any series several books into the storyline. For about the first 75 pages I kept thinking it was a mistake to have not read the prior books. But once we got into the meat of this particular installment of the Catherine Ling series, my concerns disappeared. Both Catherine and Rachel have complicated pasts and a strong bond. They are headstrong and determined to achieve their goals without doing harm to each other. While trying to stay independent, both women have a love interest that brought a little bit of romance to the story. But the main focus was the action and suspense. I am very interested to keep up with this series as I found it very entertaining.

My thanks to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley.

Best-selling author Iris Johansen returns with another novel in the Eve Duncan world: this time, however, Eve is little more than a ghost, and she's not missed (beloved though she is). Former Army Ranger Jude Brandon promises the dying CIA spook Carl Venerable (and Catherine Ling's mentor) that he'll protect Venerable's estranged daughter Rachel from the head of a terrorist group seeking revenge. She's been working in a medical clinic in the jungles of South America, seeking to come to terms with her father. Cue dramatic rescue, with guerillas and vines. After Rachel's whisked to a California safe house, the couple works together to neutralize the threat. Johansen's heady mix of action-packed showdowns between good guys, bad guys, and those who operate firmly in the shadows and romance will thrill fans and newcomers alike. A perfect respite from the world.

Most mystery/thriller readers are familiar with books written by this author. She has a definite style of writing that keeps the reader turning pages. This book is no exception. A great storyline that quickly unfolds into a race to save the heroine from her enemies while still providing enough back story to build suspense. I've read several of Iris Johansen books and will read many more in the future. Dedicate a couple of hours for reading when you pick this one up, you will not want to stop.

Iris Johansen never lets the reader down. I thoroughly enjoy every one of her books and VENDETTA didn’t let me down. I loved the same characters that have been throughout the books coming to the forefront and growing as the author develops their persona and the story. The mystery and fast pace were wonderful, and the characters involvement with each other never ceases to please. I will continue to be a dedicated Johansen reader!

Intrigue, romance, suspense, Vendetta by Iris Johansen includes them all. Though her fifth book in the Catherine Ling series, Vendetta stands well on its own as Johansen provides those new to this series with enough background information so they don't flounder.

Venable’s daughter is now a target from a terrorist. Catherine Ling is around to help out. ARC from NetGalley.

This is book book 6 in the Catherine Lang series but can be read as a stand alone. This is the first in the series I’ve read but certainly not the first Iris Johansen. She is a prolific writer and I’ve enjoy her romances for years. Lately she’s more into intrigue and suspense and they are well written. Rachel’s father got a promise from Jude Brandon he would protect her from danger. Now he’s trying to keep her safe from a madman who killed her father. I received a copy of this arc in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I haven't read all of this series, but this one does stand alone.
It was suspenseful, dramatic and had a great realistic plot. Like a rollercoaster it stalled a little half way before taking off again keeping my interest. The ending though....bring on the next book.

This is not the first Iris Johansen's novel that I read.

I was glad that St. Martin's Press and Netgalley gave me a chance to read this for free. Thank you for the ARC!

I enjoy the concept of the story. It made me scared at the edge of my seat and I felt that I was with Jude and Rachel on their fight with Max Huber.

I just didn't like the slow pace of the love story of Rachel and Jude and there were scenes that probably deleted because somehow it was not much important.

Hopefully on the next book more Cameron and Catherine, please! I'm really shipping those two!

Iris Johansen is amazing. She keeps you on the edge of your seat while messing with your mind. Twists and turns were great.
