Sleep, Sheep! is a hilarious bedtime story! Poor little sheep #68 is just not ready to leap and he is holding up the line, which is holding up little Duncan's sleep! How do you inspire a sheep to leap? Duncan tries everything, but will #68 ever gain the courage and confidence to make that leap? Kerry Sparrow puts a new twist on, "counting sheep", to fall asleep! The wittiness of the book along with the adorable illustrations make for a wonderful bedtime story!

“Sleep, Sheep!”is a hilarious story about Duncan, a kid who digs everything about bedtime except — you guessed it — sleep! And he’ll do anything to avoid it. Until his Mom has enough and tells him to, “Count sheep.” Duncan does and he has fun at first while each sheep appears, bearing its number like a race car, and leaps over the bed. But then comes Sheep #68, who hesitates. He needs a drink of water before he can jump. Then he has to go to the bathroom. Then he wants to put on running shoes. Will Sheep #68 ever do what he's supposed to? Kids and adults alike will appreciate Kerry Lyn Sparrow's super fun take on a universal experience and Guillaume Perreault's endearing illustrations. 5/5

This book made me laugh and was very relatable when it comes to bedtime. My daughter loved all the different sheep in the book, and I thought the illustrations were beautiful.

A cute and funny read about Duncan a little boy that does not like to fall asleep. He tries all the antics to stay up and his mother tries all her tactics to get him to go to sleep even counting sheep. I love how the sheep had their own personalities and accessories, it really made them come to life.
Although I enjoyed this humorous read, I thought the ending was kind of abrupt.

I read this with my youngest before bedtime. I thought it was particularly appropriate as she is also a kid who doesn't like going to bed/sleep. The turning point of counting sheep until there's a sheep who acts just like the boy was great and funny. The art was captivating and fun to point out the different things popping up throughout the book.

Duncan likes getting ready for bed, brushing his teeth and changing into his pajamas. He likes the process but hates sleeping. He stalls, asking for water and all sorts of other things. One night his mother has provided everything he needs for the night. He gets into bed and said he could not sleep so his mom suggested counting sheep. He started counting and the sheep appeared, wearing numbers and clothes. Some had shoes others did not. All goes well until #68 showed up. Now this sheep is like Duncan, not wanting to jump. He asks for a drink then the restroom, stalling with other things................will the sheep jump or not and be stuck? read the book to find out!

The book was so cute, the illustrations were nice and each sheep had a personality with their attire. I think children and adults would enjoy this bedtime story.

Like most parents, this book hits close to home. I can appreciate Duncan's mother because as I write this my 2 year old just came out of her room and asked to go to the bathroom...again.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book, which I voluntarily chose to review.

Cute, funny, clever! The illustrations are wonderful! The writing is a bit adult-centric with terms sych as "foreseeable future" and "handome sheep." A good editor might be able to suggest alternatives to make the writing a little more child-friendly.

Duncan knows how to resist bedtime by asking for water, or another story, or another pillow... after getting everything he may possibly need one night, his mom tells him to count sheep. Duncan does, but what happens when #68 is a little uncertain about jumping?

This was cute and funny, but the ending kind of fell flat. It would be cute to read to a younger kid who may also be sleep resistant.

Duncan likes everything about bedtime except SLEEP. Normally he prolongs bedtime by asking his mother for multiple things, but one night he goes to his bedroom and he finds everything he could ever ask for ready and waiting. Now he has no excuse to stay awake, but he is NOT SLEEPY! His mother tells him to count sheep, so he does and just when it starts to work sheep 68 NEEDS something. This is such a fun bedtime book, I love the story and the illustrations.

A cutish book about a boy who can't sleep, who has come with excuses why he can't sleep, and is told to count sheep, so he does.

The sheep are fun, especially the 68th sheep who uses the same excuses Duncan used. Wanting a glass of water, wanting to use the bathroom, and anything he can think of to not jump over the bed.

Silly sheep should keep kids entertained.

Sleep, Sheep is a cute book about a boy who uses every excuse in the world to avoid sleeping. (What parent hasn't been there?!) When his mom suggests counting sheep to help him get sleepy, the boy is in for a very karma-centered surprise!
Good for grades K-1.

This is the author's debut book and it is delightful. Duncan likes the prep before bed... brushing his teeth with bubble gum toothpaste, changing into his jammies, cuddling with mom as she reads him his bedtime story but the thing he dislikes most? He doesn't like to drift off to sleep.

He tries every trick in the book to keep the day going but his clever mom has a few tricks of her own to share. Finally mom has had enough of his dawdling and stalling and she advises him to try counting sleep as that is a magic strategy that will work.

Duncan settles down under his covers and the sheep marathon begins. When he gets to sheep #68 there's a problem. This nervous, anxious little sheep can't get himself together to make that heroic leap over Duncan's bed to join the rest of the flock. Oh my! Sheep #68 needs a glass of water, then needs to use the bathroom because of all the water he consumes, has the other sheep clear a pathway for his leap, thinks maybe using a step stool might be in order, or perhaps if he borrows Sheep #23's running shoes that may help him jump over the bed. Do these stalling tactics sound familiar? Does Duncan find a solution to the hesitant sheep's dilemma and can Duncan finally settle down and float off to Dreamland?

This fun book is full of humour and truth. A lot of kids use exactly the same tactics to avoid sleep at bedtime. They will enjoy reading all about those pre-bedtime tricks and how Sheep #68 exhibits the same anti-sleep rebellion as Duncan does.

The illustrations are extremely well done with a soft colour pallet and lots of expression, emotion, and wit. This is a perfect, funny read-aloud for bedtime. I highly recommend this book and I look forward to reading more of this talented author's creations.

I think we all know children like Duncan, those who know every stalling technique there is to not go to sleep at night. When mom anticipates every request from Duncan, he has no more stalls left up his sleeve. When he is still not sleepy, mom tells him to count sheep. The story continues with Duncan almost falling asleep until sheep number 68. This is when Duncan realized how frustrating he is to his mom at bedtime. The illustrations are cute and the expressions clearly show the emotions of the characters. I love the labeling technique. We had to read every sign and discuss it when I read this with my four year old grandson. He thought sheep #68 was very silly. The muted colouring in the illustrations add to the idea that this is a bedtime story and one he would listen to again and again.

Every parent has had to deal with a child that will come up with any and all excuses to avoid going to bed. This is a great story of how mom finally succeeds. The illustrations are vivid and detailed. The story is clever and fun to read. My kids range from toddler to early elementary, and they both loved the book. Highly recommended!

Duncan is a big fan of bedtime rituals, but he's not such a big fan of what comes after: sleep. He tries everything he can think of to avoid getting to sleep, but his crafty mother anticipates all possible needs: glass of water, extra blanket, cooler sleep shirt, snack, and more. She suggests that he count sheep to get to sleep - and he does! It's going well, right up until Sheep #68, who hesitates.

Soon, Duncan learns just how frustrating it must be for his mom to put him to bed, as he is forced to contend with this steadily stalling sheep. An adorable bedtime story for all ages, really.

Every parent has experienced their child trying to drag out bedtime -- perhaps it's another visit to the bathroom, or a request for water, or being too hot or too cold in their pajamas, or being scared, or any number of excuses. There comes a point where you reach your limit; you know your child just needs to sleep already.

Enter Sleep, Sheep! We meet Duncan, a little boy who enjoys everything about the bedtime ritual other than actually falling asleep. He was a master staller, but his mother is ready to outsmart him. She outfits his room with an answer to every possible delaying tactic: multiple night lights, a snack, clothing options, pillows of varying fluffiness, all the toys one could want, a flashlight, directions to the bathroom, and so on.

Duncan does his best, but when he still can't drift off, his mother suggests he count sheep. His room is suddenly filled with actual sheep, and he is enjoying the rhythmic counting when one sheep hesitates. Duncan gets a taste of his own medicine when the sheep does his best to stall.

This is a whimsical book with charming illustrations. Much as my daughters and I can enjoy reading about topics that they themselves suffer from (I'm thinking of books we giggle over dealing with messy rooms or the gimmies), I also see this being a book that will entertain them as we regal them with stories of their own tactics.
