In Sugar Sweet the cinderella trope gets a makeover and yes a much better version than Pretty Woman. Marissa Roy has been burned by love in more ways than one. Her douchebag of an ex has saddled her with debts which aren’t even hers! But she trusted him enough to end up with creditors hounding her and her own future and dreams at risk of failing. When a friend suggested she look for a millionaire sugar daddy she was desperate enough to sign up and go on for a date with one. What she didn’t expect, Vince Taylor. Vince is a successful businessman and a tv reality star with a hit show. But he has daddy issues, mainly his dad is a pain in his ass and apparently a lech as well, taking advantage of women young enough to be his daughter. When he finds out that the older Taylor has signed up to be a sugar daddy to seal a business deal, Vince refuses to a play along and decided to thwarth his father’s plan. So he hijacks his date, planning to just pay the lady for her trouble. What he didn’t expect was to be fascinated by Marissa. The next thing they know, they’ve embarked on their own business relationship but they never dreamed it could lead to something more. I love Christine d’Abo’s writing, she always brings something different and unique to common tropes. And yes always sexy hot! Sugar Sweet is so, so good. It’s my kind of Cinderella/Pretty Woman storyline that I love. Marissa appears naive and a pushover but when she finally got her head around her own problems, she was able to find her own solution. The same with Vince, there was no Prince Charming making all her problems go away. In fact, it was Marissa who gives Vince his own HEA. And basically he does own up to his own stupidity. Sugar Sweet is sweet, extremely hot and overall a fantastic romance!

I've read Christine d'Abo's Ringside Romance series, four m/m romance novels (as is my preferred genre), and was curious to try out one of her m/f romances. Sugar Sweet did not disappoint.

Sugar Sweet tells the story of Marissa (early twenties, college student, drowning in debt) and Victor (mid-thirties, TV personality, multi-millionaire). Marissa needs money to pay off debts, and Victor needs someone to act as his steady girlfriend. They come to an arrangement to help each other out and hit several road bumps along the way.

I enjoyed reading this story so much that I didn't want to put it down. This was an easy read for me. The words flowed smoothly and the action/drama/sexy times kept my interest. I liked how the author took a common plot and added some interesting twists and dynamics.

There were many interwoven conflicts that kept a steady pace throughout the book. In the beginning, I hated Victor. He was a slime ball that I wanted to reach through the book and punch. Over the course of the story, he completely redeemed himself and I was rooting for him and Marissa to get together.

Although this is a romance trope I normally avoid, I enjoyed the read. I felt for Marissa and her circumstances. Although one thing I didn't like about Marissa was that she was willing to sleep with her potential date. A sugar daddy romance with Marissa as a companion, I don't mind. A sugar daddy romance where Marissa is essentially a prostitute is not my cup of tea. Luckily, sex is off the table with VInce and everything that happens between them happens organically. One element I felt was not really fleshed out was VInce's dad's anger and treatment of VInce. There was not really a satisfactory conclusion to that conflict for me. That being said, I liked the read.

Marissa is in debt up to her ears! College loans, personal bills, living expenses and even loans she co-signed for her ex. Her friend gives her a tip that will surely help, a website to find a sugar daddy! Why not? It couldn’t hurt! She’s all set to meet up with a middle-aged millionaire and little does she know that his son is taking his place! Vince is the total package; rich, handsome and a real television star. Will their “non relationship “ ever be anything else? This spicy story will have you reading until you find the answer.

Sugar Sweet by Christine d'Abo will be available August 7, 2018 by Lyrical Caress, an imprint of Kensington Books. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.

3.5 stars. I was expecting an Alpha Hero but I didn't think Vince is Alpha at all. Sure he's demanding, possessive, and all, but I didn't feel the Alpha vibe coming off of him. Plus I don't really see the chemistry between Marissa and Vince.
The actual plot is good but the execution could be better. Look forward to read more from this author!

Vince is rich, but knows that money can't buy everything. Marissa needs money but still has morals. I liked this sugar daddy type book.

Marissa needs money NOW and a friend talks her into posting her profile on a sugar daddy website. She is immediately chosen by Vince's dad to escort him on a business deal, but it's Vince who actually uses her services.

I enjoyed the first part until BAM, Marissa acts a little of of the character I pictured and provided "those" services to Vince. I guess I was expecting something a little more. uh...wholesome? But - no harm, no foul, it just wasn't quite the story for me.
