I really enjoyed this book. What's not to like? Strong handsome highlander helps an equally strong woman. Loved the characters and storyline. Will recommend.

If your looking for a highly entertaining read, then Highland Devil would be the book for you. Plus, can you really go wrong in choosing a book that dives into the world of the mysterious Murray’s clan. With high marks on the storyline and the details on the time period. Highland Devil will sure to please.

Sir Gybbon never anticipated his horse being stolen or the fiery lass that began to capture his heart. Saving Mora and defending her from a threat that continues to stalk her like prey he slowly loses the will to roam the countryside. She will provide his heart with the need to settle and finally feel he has found where he belongs. Great story in the Scottish Highlands!

Action , great characters , elements that make a good book! Hannah Howell creates stories that have these elements and more! Great readimg.

Another steamy Highland novel set to sweep you off your feet and leave you drooling for another taste of hunky Scotsmen... An attempted theft, a gorgeous red head in trouble, and a daring knight who needs to save a damsel all make this tale one to keep you entertained to the very end. Highland Devil was a delightful read featuring a romance between two people willing to do anything for the ones they love.

While fleeing from her ruthless cousins, Mora Ogilvy tries to steal a horse in her bid to put distance between herself and her pursuers. When the horse bucks her off, she is left to deal with his irritated owner Sir Gybbon Murray who was simply on his way home when Mora showed up. After Mora explains the misdeeds of those chasing her and her fear for her life, Gybbon vows to assist her. After journeying to his family’s home, Gybbon and Mora try to work out a plan that will keep her safe and stop the threat chasing her. What Mora and Gybbon didn’t plan on was the depth of their feelings for each other and the lengths they’ll go to keep each other safe.

Mora and Gybbon’s relationship is very much based on Gybbon protecting Mora but beyond that element, I never really saw the connection between them. It seemed like they just fell into a relationship based on the forced proximity and the situation they were in. Granted the sex scenes were hot and I enjoyed them, I just never bought into the rest of their relationship. It’s possible my issues may have been because the book takes place over a very short period of time so there wasn’t a ton of buildup.

The plot dealing with Mora’s cousins and the threat against her was interesting and my favorite aspect of the book. The chase at the beginning was exciting and the author kept my interest throughout the book to see how things would work out for Mora. As to the writing, there were a few instances where the exact same line would appear within a few paragraphs of the first time it showed up which did throw me off. The repetition though may well have been because I read an advance copy of the book that wasn’t fully edited, but I wanted to mention it since it did take me out of the story lessening my enjoyment.

Highland Devil was overall a good read, I just had trouble seeing the romantic connection between the main characters which lessened my enjoyment. Despite my issues with this book, I would check something out from the author in the future if the premise was one I think I’d enjoy.

A highland laird has always been a go to hero for me and Hannah Howell a Queen of the Historical romance Genre, however after 18 books I needed a break, despite my love of all things Murray my enjoyment of the series I was bored by those Scottish men and their lady loves.

A few books break and I was back into the highland lairds with a vengeance. This is classic Howell with the Murray men protecting Women and Children from evil doers and strengthening connections with Cameron’s. Full of action packed drama from the off Highland Devil is the story of Sir Gybbon Murray and how he deals with a horse thief.

Whilst on the run from murderous relatives Mora runs into a Murray man Sir Gybbon Murray to be exact, Travelling a lonely Scottish road falling in love with your rescuer is the only thing a highland lass can do. A welcome return to Hannah Howells writing with chapters that drew me deep into the Scottish highlands I love a book that draws the reader in allowing them to imagine themselves fully as one of the characters. For me this is the main reason Highland Devil was an enjoyable read the pages and chapters moved quickly.

Overall, I enjoyed this book but it wasn't very memorable. I thought Mora was a tough heroine on a mission. She made some questionable decisions but given her age it makes sense. Gybbon is gentleman and takes care of Mora, but their relationship was kind of a dud. They have next to no physical contact throughout the book, and very little emotional discussions and then the reader is supposed to believe that they are deeply in love. The plot moved along well enough that it kept my interest, and I kept hoping for more romance but was a bit disappointed in that area. Overall, it was a fun read but it ends there.

Just one more story about this very large family.
Not much mystery, but a lass still in danger and on the run.

Hannah Howel gives us another winner in the Murray saga.
Gybbon Murray is on his way home when he finds a damsel in distress. A Murray always helps a damsel in distress. Mora is running for her life. With her parents dead, her brothers off fighting foreign wars, she is left alone to raise her baby brother under her uncle’s care. Her uncle has become mysteriously ill and her evil cousin has become bolder. He wants Mora out of her home for he wants it and her land. And he will do anything to get it, including murder.
As Mora & Gybbon go for reinforcements and the law, they both begin to lower their walls and a spark blossoms between them. Will Gybbon be able to protect her? Can Mora reclaim her home and maybe find love along the way? Enjoy this solid read with a great villain, hysterical side characters, and one pretty awesome kitty!

Gybbon, the good guy hero here, right from the get go, had Mora’s, the heroine, back unconditionally. He was kind, respectful, protective, and wanted to help her in any manner he could. Therefore, I’ll not really sure where the term wicked knight comes from in the synopsis or the devil reference in the title. I can only assume the latter must refer to the OTT evil villain who was after Mora and her wee younger brother.

One thing Gybbon couldn’t seem to come to terms with for quite some time was committing fully to Mora. Mostly it was his head that needed to catch up with his heart, because clearly he began to care for her but couldn’t say those three little words. It’s hard for this avid romantic at heart to root for a main couple when they aren’t 100% fighting for love themselves right from the get go. When they speak of parting like it is inevitable, it rankles my feather, folks. Of course, they were sweet together, and I knew somehow by the end things would work out.

Though I enjoyed seeing these two eventually become a couple, they came across more as unplanned travel companions for a very long time. Their relationship and plot unfolded at a very slow, leisurely pace. In fact, for a majority of the book their romance felt like a subplot. I didn’t feel the heart melting, strong chemistry/passionate connection I expected. They were attracted to one another and "in like" but I didn't sense their love was so deep they couldn't have lived without each other.

I found myself skimming over parts of it, especially the retelling/rehashing of conversations and events as more sub-characters were introduced and brought up to speed and told what was going on. At least the interactions among this large cast of characters were intriguing.

Overall, I enjoyed this book but must admit it seemed to take forever to finish. I’m struggling here to pinpoint specifically why. As a big fan of slow burn romances, that certainly wasn’t the problem. I can only assume it was because of the very slow paced turn of events and the reluctant to commit aspect.

At the end of the day, knucklehead Gybbon does finally give in and commits to making Mora his wife, but his doubts and the manner in which it happened weren’t overly romantic. A little too stereotypical set-up and shotgun wedding for my taste. Despite the fact, he finally was more than willing to be dragged towards matrimony.

I am on edge wondering how to review this one. I absolutely adore the author! However, for the first time ever, I feel let down. This book does not hold up to expectations. That is not to say it is not enjoyable, It just feels like either someone else wrote it or it was written in a hurry. Definitely not her best work. But still a read. Ms Howell has another winner. Love the Murrays. Mora is a fierce heroine. Gybbon is such a good warrior. Blend them and you get a great tale.

What can I say? I really like it when there are stories about a wee lass... And Mora is not just any wee lass. Fleeing for her cousin, who has murdered her parents and tried to kill her and her little brother as well, she tries to steal a horse to go to her mother's clan. Sir Gybbon is very surprised to find someone trying to steal his horse. He is even more surprised when he finds out it is a lass trying to steal it. But when he hears of her story he is quit furious. Determined to help Mora, they venture on a journey together to find help to rescue Mora's brother and save Mora's heritage.
And meanwhile, they both fall in love (duh...). But can Mora trust this shiny knight in armour? Find out for yourself with this wonderful tale. Four out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.

You know that feeling you get when you come home from a long vacation? Like it was really nice to be away but as soon as you walk through the door to your home, it was like you never left. Instant comfort. That is what reading about the Murray clan is like.

If you have ever read any of my reviews before, you will notice that I am a hardcore thriller reader. I love the dark side of life and am not a big romance reader at all. Once in a while, sure, but not all the time. However, I will NEVER miss a new Hannah Howell book. Especially the Highland series and here’s why; it never changes. Each new release follows a very similar pattern to the ones before it and there are really no big surprises. It is perfect. I continue to read these books after years of following this series and each time I get that instant comfort of the familiar. Each time I get to fall into a new chapter of the biggest family I’ve ever met (seriously, they are everywhere!) and because the basic structure is pretty much the same I can just fall into this beautiful, historic world that Howell has created and lose myself there.

Here’s what I expect when picking up a Highland book:

1. The male protagonist is going to be a large, attractive member of the family. He may or may not be an Alpha but he will be incredibly jealous, protective and very surprised about it because he isn’t normally like that and it came out of nowhere
2. The female love interest will be stubborn. Sometimes in a subtle way and it will drive the male crazy at first (because women are not supposed to be like that in “Men are Kings and we listen to what they say” Scotland) and generally pretty mouthy. It won’t usually go over well at first but at the end, that’s what that Murray man loves about her. She is also probably a small and slight woman which he is surprised to find very attractive
3. The conflict will change. Someone will more than likely be running from someone trying to kill them. Usually over land and title. Sometimes over the woman. It’s ok though because the Murray clan sticks together and big, powerful forces will be coming to save the day. Plus they always have friends in high places
4. Every man in that family has a wife that is exactly the same and they all get along. There will be talk when they get together about how stubborn the women are and how they always put those men in their places but that’s why they married them. None of them just ran into each other at the market and locked eyes; there is a big story about how each couple met and each is pretty similar
5. Sexy time. It happens. Sometimes earlier on than you expect. Usually it comes on as a surprise and they “really shouldn’t be doing this but screw it and damn the consequences”. Everyone also knows about it. I mean, there is no privacy at all. You go to a room to get it on…everyone knows. You’re an unwed couple that just met and are stopping for a good night’s sleep and a hot meal at a family member’s along the way? Everyone knows what’s going down…even if it hasn’t happened yet. Women give “knowing looks” and the men give warnings and ask questions about intentions and marriage. She IS a respectable lady after all. If this lady has a brother or father kicking around, they are absolutely going to walk in shortly after a round has been finished. They were close by after all and, again, no privacy. There may be violence but it will more than likely end in a wedding. Groom will be happy about it because he decided he was going to marry her anyway. Bride will be embarrassed but thrilled that she got her man in the end.
6. Love words will be spoken.

Now not every book in the series is going to follow this pattern exactly but it gives a basic idea of what I’ve grown to expect and what I love about this series. Highland Devil, while sticking pretty closely to my well laid out plot points, surprised me a bit. Since this is the 22nd book in the series I feel that is something worth noting. There was a change here and I’m a little unsure of it.

While the characters lived up to the standards I expect from a Hannah Howell book, I found the narration lacking. Although I normally find a good pace is being set, this book tended to both drag on and feel too rushed at times in certain areas. I felt that the main conflict surrounding Mora and Robert was well laid out and what I had expected but that Gybbon’s eventual involvement and how easily his people became involved in the situation was a little unbelievable and a bit naïve on everyone’s part if I’m being perfectly honest. While I still greatly enjoyed the book, I found I preferred following the character development more than I cared about how the situation would be resolved and that.

I will say that I think Gybbon may be my new favorite Murray! I absolutely loved him. While he definitely isn’t a large Alpha character like a lot of his clansmen are, I thought he was just the sweetest guy. Again, a little naïve and too quick to trust but he is your typical boy next door type and I just loved reading about him. Mora was pretty much the same type of character although she was a little bit harder on the head. Still a stubborn pain in the ass and sort of irritating at times but I think the two are well matched and just all out adorable. My favorite in this book, though, and an absolute perfect touch has got to be Freya. I have a soft spot for her (as did everyone in this book…except Robert of course) and thought that her addition to this story was amazing.

There really isn’t much that I didn’t like about Highland Devil other than the narration as I mentioned earlier. I don’t quite get the title based on how the book read but I can forgive that detail. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and still found it fairly quick to get through. The writing is just as amazing as it always is and I love falling into that thick Scottish brogue that Howell does so well. I look forward to many, many more stories from the Murray clan and will continue to keep the author who gave me a love for the Highlands on my insta-buy list.

When Mora’s cousins show up and kick her out of her family home, Mora’s escapes with what she can and tries to make it to her mother’s kin so they can help her get her home back. When she’s caught stealing a man’s horse, she’s grateful when, not only has he heard of her mother’s family, but he’s willing to help her get to them.
This story was ok. I liked both Gybbon and Mora, but I had a problem with how quickly Gybbon was willing to cease everything for Mora. The insta-feelings just didn’t work for me for some reason. The POV bouncing between numerous people got a little irritating at times as well.
