When it comes to historical romance, no one beats Ms. Howell.. I have loved all her books and i can definitely consider this book as one of my favorites.. But i should say, the star of the book is not sexy as sin Gybbon Murray but Freya the cat! You wouldn't need to spend hundreds for a state of the art alarm system, all you need is Freya! and throw in Jester too.. awesome!

Thank you to Netgalley, Kensington Books and Ms. Hannah Howell for this awesome book....

Highland Devil by Hannah Howell is an interesting tale. One where family is set against its own. An evil cousin is set upon killing everyone to get what he wants. And no one has been able to stop him yet...even his own father won't stop him. That's when Mora and her younger brother, Andrew, flew for their lives. Their paths soon cross that of one brave highlander, Gybbon. Gybbon immediately seeks to help Mora and her brother against her evil cousin. But the fear, danger, and passion that sparks between keeps them at ends.

The suspense in this historical novel was intense. I was not sure what would have happened to Mora. Several times, I thought both she and Andrew would die. As for her older brothers...I did not see that unexpected twist happening. Fast-paced and brilliant, Hannah Howell plucked my curiosity and kept it. I would recommend this read. It was deeply engaging and emotionally fun to follow. Brave, funny, and strong men racing to help those in danger made my heart melt every time. Highland Devil is just as it sounded. A highland devil was detailed here. Running and finding out why the highland devil wanted the characters dead was a unique mystery. It appeared to be greed but I am still left with wondering if it was simply just because he was a mad man. Or was he?

Highland Devil is another wonderfully written Hannah Howell romance. This lovely addition to The Murrays saga grabbed my attention from the very first page.

I'm such a sucker for a Hannah Howell book. They are such lovely stories that are always loaded with passion, witty humor, and an inevitable suspense. Who can resist a charming hero saving the day for his lady ? Gybbon was a wandering soul who wasn't sure if he wanted to settle down in one place ..... with just one woman for a lifetime. But as are all of Hannah Howell's heroes he too soon had a new plan in mind. First, he must save Mora and her little brother from the madman bent on murder.

So this story followed the usual plot as do most of this author's books. If it ain't broke then don't mess with sweet perfection. I loved this one just as much as the first Hannah Howell book that I read. I've read every book in this amazing series. They never fail to put a wistful smile on my face. Now that's an one click auto buy for sure.

Loved this book. So caring and attentive to a woman in need. I love the animals best in Hannah's books. They have a crazy personality and almost steal the story.

Consistanantly a good series. Howell might want to think about giving the storyline a bit of a new lease on life in the new books to keep readers interested in the future.

I really enjoyed Gybbon and Mora's story!

When Mora's cousin tries to kill her and her brother, she finds herself on the run. Luckily she encounters Gybbon, who takes her under his wing and does everything in his power to protector her. With the help of Gybbon's very extended family, Mora and Gybbon hope to bring the killer of her parents to justice. The culprit, unfortunately, is telling everyone that Mora is guilty of a different murder and is tracking her down. Will Mora be able to get justice for all she has lost?

I really enjoyed this latest addition to the Murray family series and I'm excited to see what Howell has in store for us next!

I am always a fan of a historical romance and this was no exception. I really enjoyed all the surprises this book held and I always love a strong female lead.

Mora, running for her life from her evil cousin, stumbles across Gybbon, who is camping out while traveling. When she tries to steal his horse she gets caught, and the two get together. Overall, I enjoyed this one, and it kept my interest throughout. Didn't quite see how the crazy cousin could weld so much power, and didn't see how they jumped into bed so quickly, but other than that I enjoyed it, and would highly recommend this book and author.

Another great read by Hannah Howell! Read in one sitting, could not put it down. You get to meet up with characters from pervious books, and in this book you get murderess cousins, Mora and Gybbon, the man who helps her and her cat, Freya! A must read!

Mora is on the run from her evil cousin after he admits to murdering her parents and she strongly suspects poisoning his own father. While on the run she comes across Gybbon Murray. She tries to steal his horse but is bucked off. Gybbon takes Mora under his wing and together they get justice for her family. The characters are well written and you cant help but getting drawn into Hannah Howell’s world.

I received this novel from net galley and the publisher for an honest review.

I have been following Hannah Howell for many years now …she has been one of my top 10 favorite authors! I have loved all her books but mostly about the Murrays/Werlockes Families. Ms. Howell came up with another book on the Murray Clan and you would think after 22 books it would get stale, but it doesn’t! I read this book in one sitting, which was a good thing the hubby was out because who wanted to eat when I could read as to what was going to come next! The story had a good story line …the characters were believable …and I liked the added harsh reality that life likes to throw in. I loved the chemistry between Mora and Gybbon …there was fire, passion and yet, a lot of humor to them. There was times I laughed out loud! Overall, I would rate this book a solid 4-1/2 stars and would highly recommend is novel!

I would like to thank Ms Howell, the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review

Mora is on the run from her evil cousin. He admitted to her that he killed her parents and she just manages to get her seven-year-old brother, Daniel, on the run before he tries to stab her. She gets away from him and heads off to her mother’s family, the Camerons. While on the run she comes across a man with a horse and decides to steal the horse. Unfortunately the horse doesn’t take well to strangers and bucks her off.

The own of the horse is Gybbon Murray. He takes pity on Mora and offers to take her to Sigimore Cameron as he knows him well. Sigimor agrees to help Mora as the Camerons hate the fact that her cousin, the Laird’s son, is trying to take the property from her. With the help of the Camerons, McFingals and Murrays they help Mora figure out a way to save what’s left of her family and her property.

I had mixed emotions about this book. You’ll see that I gave it 3.5 stars but I have to admit that is for the whole my-cousin-is-trying-to-kill-my-family part of the story – which is most of it. I liked how the three clans get together to deal with the Ogilvy Laird and his psycho son. The humor is high in the book and that definitely kept me reading.

What I didn’t care for in this book was the romance. It was low on romance. Ok, it was almost non-existent, actually. I hate to say that but it’s true! Mora and Gybbon meet and then they start dealing with her family issues immediately afterward. He randomly kisses her a time or two as he’s feeling possessive but really it’s just about spending time together as they deal with her cousin. The fact that the author had them falling in love so quickly was a bit of a shock. I know this is how things happened back then, but I need my romance! Lol

In the end the 3.5 stars are for the family part of the book. If I had to rate this on romance alone, I’m sorry to say it would have been a 1.5.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

ARC received for review

Another great book by Ms. Howell. Murdering cousins who try to pin the blame on a wee lassie. Gybbon falls for Mora slowly without any extra bells or whistles. He protects her and helps her get to the bottom of all the lies. Loved all the secondary characters in Gybbon's wide range of family.

Often times Mora needs to give her man a push in the right direction, “nay. None,” she said, and reached down to clasp him by the buttocks and push him toward her. He chuckled and began to move." Gybbon often times thinks of those he loves and how they would react to his actions, "Gybbon watched her face and could tell she was thinking hard, fretting over it. He suspected every female in his family would happily thump him into the ground right now." I loved the scene where Mora and Gybbon were caught by her brothers:
“What the devil is she doing under there?” asked David.
Lifting the covers a little to peek, Gybbon grinned. “Trying to put her night shift back on.”
“I didnae think I wanted to be naked if I had to leap up to defend ye,” she snapped as she slipped her arm into the sleeve.I
I really liked this book.

It's always hard to understand how some family will hide the truth from others. No matter what in the case of, Highland Devil. Lucky for Mora that she has the Murray's on her side.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Let me preface this review by saying "OMG, OMG, I can't believe I got an ARC copy of one of my favorite authors!!!". I've been reading Hannah Howell since I was a teenager and have loved all her books (some more then others, but she has been one of my favorite authors for forever).

Ok. Thank you for bearing with my little squee session. This is not my favorite Hannah Howell book. There is not a lot of chemistry between the main characters as there normally is in her books. And it's not about the love scenes. Those scenes were well written but took place toward the end of the book. It was the fact that it was hard to even find romantic scenes for the first half of the book. It feels more like an adventure story set in Scotland that has a subplot of romance (I would prefer it was the other way around). The ending makes up for the lack of romance and I still recommend the book to readers of Hannah Howell and to those who especially loved her Murphy clan.

Gybbon Murphy is the Hero of the book. Like all highland heros he's big strong and talks with a lovely Scottish accent. And he has a penchant for saving damsils in distress (or women thieves in this case. I want a man like him.

Mora (heroine) is an orphan (made so by her cousins). She's on the run with her cat and manages to run into the heaven sent arms of our beloved hero. Or rather ran into his horse but same thing in the end.
As an aside, Hannah Howell must love cats. She writes one into alot of her books. I can't deny that I love the cats in the books. They make cute little additions to her stories.

The two spend alot of time alone as the hero trys to protect our lovely heroine from her very murderous kin. Finally they end up at his brother's keep and wicked things happen. It's also in here that you meet Sigimore and Jolene again (main characters of my actual favorite Hannah Howell book). You should definitely read that book, Highland Conquerer (ie my shameless plug for a favorite book).

Overall, the book was well written and definitely has Hannah Howell's unique voice. It's not my favorite of her books but still is a great read and well worth getting the book. I usually reread all the Murphy books at one point or another and I will definitely be rereading this sometime in the future.
