I wanted to read a thriller which would knock my socks off, and this book kinda did with the first scene.

The scene in the elevator with the doors partially open and child running out, where the mother couldn’t follow and the lift lurching a foot down is so gripping and so horrifying, I literally had my heart in my mouth from imagining it. This scene should be read by all thriller lovers. Man, it was brilliant. I will say it again it was brilliant. What a scene!! Author Alex Sinclair is a genius with this scene.

The book followed the mother Erica as she took one wrong decision after the other in search of her daughter. She was scatterbrained with wayward thoughts, could be because of panic. She didn’t call the cops!! The story narrated her past life the Then along with the the present one Now. Her life with Michael, her pregnancy, breakdown of marriage, divorce, all found a place in between the chapters where she searched for the child on each floor, knocking on doors of rude, indifferent residents. Nobody could understand her panic

I loved how Alex Sinclair has portrayed Erica, I could feel the synapses of her brain overshooting at all points. Blood found, ex-con resident, a collapsed maintenance man, a shady maintenance supervisor all played their part in confusing Erica and me. At times I felt I was underwater where I could see everything but could not analyse anything. I could just hold-on and hope that this ride would show me the way to rise to the surface with complete understanding.

I love a book that grips me from page one! Alex Sinclair's writing is so real! He has a way of "writing you into the story" so that you feel the characters are a part of your own world!
In this story, I felt trapped on this high rise apartment building anxious and stir crazy as I read about Erika's quest to find her little girl! I also felt like screaming at her at times to get it together! Her anxiety attacks and paranoid ramblings made her seem the one who needed to be taken away! I also love how he weaves the past into the story and reveals how Erika got to this point in the apartment building. Brilliant writing!
Sinclair wrote so many plot twists and definitely kept you guessing until the last page! I absolutely LOVE his style of writing and the flow of the story. Some fair warnings... not everyone is who they seem in this story! And Michael? Hmmm... where the hell is he anyway? Ugh! What a crazy good, unputdownable, twisty as hell thriller of a read! We loved it and give it 5 twisty stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Erika knows it is a mistake to use the elevator. Alice, her four year old, gets all stressed out, but she's in a hurry, so they get on. Soon the elevator is bumping and then stops... the lights go out and while Erika tries to get her cellphone to light the darkness, Alice pushes the button to open the door and crawls out. Erika cannot manage to squeeze out, so she tells Alice to wait there, she will come right back to get her. But when she gets back, Alice is gone! What will she do?

Where do I start, I mean publication day on Friday the Thirteenth OMG…….for many this would be a source of bad luck, but Alex Sinclair has nothing to fear with his newest release The Day I Lost You. Hands down an utterly intense mind seizing plotline which managed to grab the dark depravity of a convoluted soul, laying it bare for all to see. Alex has perfected the psychological thriller in a robust but easily read narrative, perfect for Friday the 13th…… Dare you read it, a nightmare for any parent to endure.

Okay I know I tend to over analysis books throw in obtuse words which probably drive people insane but every book I read has a story, a light which has to be seen and The Day I Lost You is no exception.

Right lets get on with what will hopefully be on your reading list..

Alex has centred The Day I Lost You around Erika and her child Alice (Bunny), a seemingly normal day descends into a nightmare of the worst kind when Alice goes missing in an apartment block, all they were there for was Alice’s doll. No-one claims to have seen Alice, Erika believes they are hiding something from her, she believes Alice may have been kidnapped, all her questions remain unanswered, fear and anxiety are pressing Erika on to find her daughter, to save Alice. While Alex narrates the book about the present situation Erika finds herself in we also look back to Erika’s past, her relationship with her ex-husband and what happened, Alex uses these building blocks to form a plot of twists which stabilise the present dilemma.

Erika is a strong character but with a fleeting nature which goes a long way to understand what Alex is trying to accomplish with the final few chapters, ensnaring the reader (that’s me) in the tangle of what, why and how scenarios.

Very well played Alex, you certainly played me….and the pages kept on turning.

I have read The Last Thing I Saw another psychological thriller by Alex and following on from there The Day I Lost You both books outweigh each other in my view, there is no doubt that Alex has a flavour for psychological thriller and I look forward to his next release.

My thanks go to Bookouture, Alex Sinclair and Noelle Holten for the advanced readers copy of The Day I Lost You, its been my pleasure to have been able to read and review Alex’s newest book and be part of the Blog Blitz today. Congrats Alex Sinclair.

Erika Rice is in an elevator with her four year old daughter Alice when all the lights go out. It jerks to a stop on a deserted floor of apartments and the little girl runs out into the corridor. Before Erika can follow her, the doors close again. Now her daughter is nowhere to be seen.

A child going missing is every parents worst nightmare. This story follows Erika's quest to find her daughter Alice, when she goes missing after the elevator they at in, stops on a deserted floor of an apartment building they are in. They were going to visit her ex-husbands apartment as Bunny (Alice) had left her favourite toy the last time she had been there. The story alternates between present and snippets of the past.

This book had me gripped from the start. Tugging at my heartstrings, willing this woman on to find her child safe and well. I think, like Erika, we would all do anything to cover all bases, in trying to find our daughters, to try and get others to help us find her and to call the authorities. This is a very twisted read. Although I found some parts far fetched, I was still on the mother's side.. But the one thing I did not see coming, was the final unexpected twist at the end.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Alex Sinclair for my ARC in exchange for an honest review

4.25 Troubling Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟.25

I have read quite a few missing children books as of late but this one was a bit different.... it had a bit of a Twilight Zone vibe to it... not sure if it was the fact it was set almost entirely in an apartment building.... or if it was the fact that the people living in this apartment building were all a bit off and disconnected... it was quite jarring how unhelpful the tenants in this building were! Gave the entire book a creepy eerie feeling....

Erica is on an elevator heading towards her ex-husband’s apartment to pick up a toy left behind by their daughter Alice... when the elevator doors mysteriously open on the seventh floor Alice sneaks out and the hunt for her begins... this is also when the book began to get a little odd, everybody’s reaction to a missing child in the apartment building was quite disconcerting and lead me to question many things.... not going to mention any of these things because I don’t want to ruin this for you.... just know like all good psychological thrillers this book has many twists and turns and even though I figured out the twist (almost for the first time ever!) It was still fun trying to make all the pieces fit together....

Told entirely from the perspective of Erica.... most of the book was set in the present time... with snippets of the past highlighting Erica and her ex-husband’s marriage.... erica’s character was really hard to completely understand, but I believe this was done on purpose.... A definite different spin on the missing child story, well done!

Absolutely recommend to fans of an Erie psychological thriller...

This is a parent's worst nightmare. Taking her daughter to where her father lives in order to pick up a doll she had left there, Erika Rice gets on an elevator. Something happens, the elevator stops and young Alice jumps across the partially open door and promptly disappears.

Erika is beside herself with worry. Where did her daughter go? She takes the stairs and run downstairs hoping to find help. The man at the desk says he will call the police for her. But does he really? A man named Alan says he is the building's maintenance man and he will help her look for Alice. But he also disappears, after Erika learns he really isn't the maintenance man.

This is the story of Erika's frantic attempts to find her daughter. Alternating chapters jump back to when Erika was still married, and became pregnant to the break up of her marriage when Alice was 6 months old.

Throughout this story, the reader can feel Erika's fear and angst, wondering what has happened to her daughter ... who took her. And then there's the rumor that another man on the same floor where the girl disappeared is an ex-convict.

This is a fast-action book, and even though some of it comes across as a bit predictable .. the ending is an explosive surprise that not only took my breath away, but I never ever saw it coming.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological thriller. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Wow!! Hold on tight for this non-stop, hold your breath thriller!! This is an amazingly clever, well-written novel, with interesting characters. You will not know what hits you when you get to the end. Remember, keep breathing, I think I held my breath for the last 2 chapters ;)

Not at all what I was expecting! A good mystery with a surprising twist at the end. I recommend this one to be added to your TBR list.

Thank you #netgalley and #bookouture for the eARC.

I really wanted to like this book, it had a really interesting premise but somewhere in the middle everything went flat. I feel like the book would have done more with succinct sentences. The ending though was superb and maybe the disjointed plot was to reflect the M.C's mind.

Erika has taken young daughter Alice to her father's apartment to retrieve a forgotten toy. When the elevator suddenly stops on a particular floor, Alice slips out and immediately disappears. It has happened suddenly and now Alice is nowhere to be found. The timing is especially devastating to Erika as it was her plan that this would be Alice's last time seeing her father.

Erika had lived in an emotionally abusive marriage and left her husband Michael six months after Alice was born. Things have not gone well over the past several years and now Erika no longer wants Michael to have visitation with Alice. The question Erika is grappling with is whether Alice is lost or has Michael had a hand in actually kidnapping her? Erika experiences a maelstrom of emotions while searching for Alice, especially as the story vacillates between then and now.

The Day I Lost You is utterly thrilling. I read with eager anticipation as Erika feverishly searched for her daughter. And, wow! There were surprising twists, but it was the ending that offered a truly shocking conclusion. It was completely unexpected. This was a true psychological thriller that kept me on my toes. Alex Sinclair is an author that I will certainly watch out for.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Oh my Goodness, what a climatic ending!!
I read this book in a day. I could not put it down.
Erika escapes a mentally abusive relationship six months after giving birth to Alice (Bunny). She plans to cut all ties with her husband but first she must go to her exs apartment to retrieve Alice's dolly. Alice then goes missing presumed kidnapped, resulting in Erika doing whatever it takes to get her Bunny back. Is there more to the story that meets the eye? Excellent book.

Well, I must admit I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the thriller/mystery part of the book, but I felt that some of the events that took place didn’t make sense and really didn’t lend itself to the story. It felt like filler that could’ve been left out. Overall this was a good book and even though I’d somewhat figured things out midway through the book, I wanted to keep reading to see if I was right about it all. This was a quick read that is sure to pique many interests but I think you just need to go into it planning to get info that isn’t relevant to the story.

I had high hopes for this one and really wanted to love it. I loved the story idea. I just kept hoping it would get better so I stuck with it to find out what happened. There was a good twist at the end. There were too many times that I found myself asking why the main character made choices she made. It seemed to unbelievable to me. Knowing the ending now, I guess it makes more sense. This had the potential to be a great book but found myself skimming over pages which I never do. Happy to have had the opportunity to read it! #TheDayILostYou #NetGalley #NewFiction #Thrillers #BeachRead #BookLovers #BookReview

Well where to start ?!? This book grabbed me right from the start and didn’t let go until the very end.

Erika and her 4year old daughter, Alice, are visiting Erika’s ex-husband to try and retrieve a toy that Alice left behind on her last visit. However on the way up to the top floor in her husbands apartment block the lift suddenly stops and before Erika can stop her Alice slips through a gap in the doors on the 7th floor just as the lift starts to move again. Once Erika returns to the 7th floor to find her daughter she is nowhere to be seen. What has happened to her ? Has someone taken her ?

Erika stops at nothing to try and find her daughter and enlists the help of some residents / workers in the apartment building but who can she trust ?

This book has lots of twists and turns, one in particular that I really didn’t see coming !! If you love psychological thrillers you really need to read this book, you won’t be disappointed.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

Erika's 4-year-old daughter jumps out of a malfunctioning elevator onto the seventh floor of an apartment building. The doors close, and by the time Erika gets back to the floor where she last saw Alice, she has completely disappeared. Erika spends the remainder of the book frantically searching the building for her daughter. I did not really care for this. It was a fast read, and I did want to see what happened, but I didn't really enjoy getting to the end. A lot of the decisions Erika made were frustrating, and I just really did not like her or feel much sympathy for her, even though it would certainly be terrifying to lose your child. There was a twist at the end, which was something I sort of suspected but not completely. I am torn on how to rate this because I didn't like it for almost the entire book, but the last few chapters were better. I'm only giving this one 2 stars, although, again, I did like the end of the book. I think I'd have liked it better if it started at that point in the story and went forward.

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book - all opinions are my own.

This was a great little mystery/psychological thriller from Alex Sinclair to kick off my month of reading.

It only took a second for Erika's four year old daughter Alice to slip away from her and run off. Now her daughter is nowhere to be found in the building she lost her in, and Erika is becoming more and more desperate as the minutes tick by. The desperation is compounded only be the fear that her ex-husband, who lives in the building, will find out and this will be the final tipping point for him trying to take Alice away from Erika forever.

I really enjoyed how the story moved between the present day emergency of the missing child, and Erika's pregnancy and subsequent marriage breakdown. The two opposing events played well off of each other, and kept the pace of the story on track.

I loved the premise of this story, and the idea that one quick minute could result in such catastrophic ways. I also love a book with a highly unreliable narrator, and this book delivered on that front. My only frustration with this book was that parts of it felt very repetitive, and I did find myself skimming over chapters when this became prevalent.

However the twists and turns, especially in the end, were worth the effort and tied the story up in a way I didn't see coming at all. A fantastic, quick read mystery for your summer to-read pile!
