A quick read (it's not long) about every parent's worst nightmare- a child that goes missing in the blink of an eye. In this case, though, the novel is as much about Erika's marriage to Michael as it is about the hunt for Alice aka Bunny. I didn't understand why Erika didn't stop and call the police (but admit that would not have fit the plot.). This didn't plow much new ground although the twist at the end was pretty good. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC>.

When you have a small child, you need to have eyes on the back of your head as well, because when one thing happens, due to circumstances out of your control, you might lose the most precious thing you have ...
I read this one in one go. From the first page I was hooked and you felt for Erika. Maybe she did not always make the best decisions, but there is no doubt in my mind that you can't think clearly in her condition. You want to trust everybody who wants to help you because you are so desperate.
I was wondering where the story would go and I can tell you I did not see this twist coming.
I was thoroughly captivated by the book. So nothing but praise from me.
Thank you, Alex Sinclair, Bookouture and Netgalley

The Day I Lost You centres around Erika now and in the past. She is visiting her ex-husband with her daughter Alice when the elevators stop and Alice slips away. Erika if frantic to find her and searches the whole building. I have to rate this one so low because I thought the whole thing was obvious and rediculous. It’s not often I guess the “shocking” plot twist early but I knew how it was going in the first few chapters and that just took my enjoyment of the whole book away. Thank you Bookouture for the e-galley in exchange for an honest review. The Day I Lost You is available July 13, 2018.

My second book by this author. The first one, The Last Thing I Saw was a gripping thriller that had me hooked, so I hoped this one was going to be the same!

Erika Rice is in an elevator with her 4 year old daughter Alice, when the elevator stops and all the lights go out. It has stopped on a deserted floor in an apartment block where her ex-husband lives, and Alice, in fear, has jumped out. Before Erika has a chance to follow her, the elevator doors close and the life begins to move down to the ground floor leaving Alice alone on the 7th floor. When Erika returns up to the 7th floor, her daughter is nowhere to be seen.

This has to be every mother’s worst nightmare and as I began to read it, I could feel myself experiencing the same panic that Erika was. Right from the beginning it had me hooked, not just because I just had to find out what happened to Alice, but also because I just knew there was something else going on.

Erika is a strange character though! Her story alternated between ‘then’ and ‘now’, with ‘then’ being 4-5 years earlier when she was pregnant with Alice. There was obviously something not right in Erika’s relationship with her husband, Michael and as both ‘then’ and ‘now’ stories develop, you discover more about this part of her life. I’m not sure if she was a particularly likeable character though, but then none of the characters, from what I saw, had many redeeming qualities about them!

It is a relatively short book and the story is based mainly within the apartment block. There were also not many characters and this helped the story fly by really quickly! It was an uncomplicated read and as I didn’t have to keep track of who was who and what was what before I knew it I was well over three quarters of the way through the book!

The author’s writing was captivating and genuinely gave me the chills, and yet I had to just keep reading one more page! The ending was a huge reveal and nowhere throughout the book did I see that coming! The author obviously had a plan to send the readers down the wrong road at every turn and it certainly worked! It was a great read with lots of surprising twists! I would definitely recommend if you are into psychological thrillers but be prepared to be reading into the early hours just to get it finished!

This is my first book by ALEX SINCLAIR. Wow! Super intense, you could feel the panic. You could sense the woman's descent into her madness. Her thoughts were all over the place and you could feel her frustration. I will definitely be looking for more books by Mr. Sinclair.

This was a quick paced thrilling read. Erika takes her daughter to her ex’s apartment building to get something and then loses her. Is she kidnapped? If so, who took her and why? And there are some super weird people in that building! ~ A Bibliophile ❤️📚

I was recently sent an advanced copy of The Day I Lost You by Alex Sinclair and holy plot twist, Batman! Other than a handful of flashbacks, the entire story unfolds over the course of a few hours. Sinclair’s writing style & meticulous attention to detail spin an absolutely captivating story that will leave you reeling. It is difficult to explain but, if it weren’t for the mention of modern technologies such as smartphones, the air of refinement in the author’s writing style would make me swear this takes place in the 50’s or early 60’s. Despite her self loathing, Ericka, the main character, compels the reader to care & especially tugs at the heart strings of any parent. Even in the midst of the most far-fetched circumstances, you can still imagine yourself in her situation & literally feel her pain. This is one of those books that makes your mind run a marathon. From the beginning, I was swept up into the mystery & found myself going back to reread previous sections several times thinking I’d finally put it all together. Still, the ending was beyond even the craziest scenarios I’d come up with. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll leave it at that & also say that I was very impressed with Sinclair’s apparent understanding of the inner workings of a psychologically handicapped mind. The characters’ “self talk” was textbook & again, the detail was exquisite. My only advice is not to start this one until you have enough time to finish it all at once. Otherwise, it’ll drive you crazy!

I found this book frustrating. The book focuses on a day a little girl goes missing and the frantic search for her. It all was just a bit too unbelievable for me

Twisty and gripping all the way through. One of this year's must reads for all fans of this genre. Had me racing through the pages one after another. Thank you!

After reading the synopsis and feeling increasingly aware that this premise, although used plenty of times throughout the history of the genre, can still lead to a thrilling and exciting story. I suppose it's really dependent on the ability of the author to make the most of the concept and run with it, so to speak. Having enjoyed a lot of books with a similar or near identical hook, I was pretty sure as long as the execution on the part of the author was good, it was safe to say I would find it a pleasurable experience.

Unfortunately, I had mixed emotions regarding this book. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible. Not by a long shot! But it isn't up to the usual high standard of most of the Bookouture catalogue. As I mentioned above, the premise is a sound one, even though it is overused. My first issue was with the pace at the beginning - it was rather slow and steady, however, it did pick up further into the story. There was a certain something missing for me that meant I didn't connect fully to the characters, I feel that the suspense needed to be built more and Sinclair could've exploited the situation a little better.

Erika, our main protagonist, was the only character that had sufficient development and that I could connect with. I felt a lot of sympathy for her and the circumstances she found herself in. Despite, her poor hand she was a fierce, strong and independent character who I greatly admired. I appreciated the twist at the very end and thought it was excellent conclusion to the book.

I would read another Alex Sinclair book in the future, I hope he continues to write and develop into the genre. He has all the attributes to write a fantastic thriller so I will look forward to checking his next offering out when available!

Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Well.. that was unexpected! I certainly did not see that ending coming.. and I loved it. I had so many scenarios going on in my head but none of them were right - what a great book.

Erika takes her 4 year old daughter Alice to her ex husbands apartment to pick up a toy that had been left behind. Ion the way up to the top floor the elevator stops unexpectedly and Alice runs out before her mum can catch her. This is the story of Erika trying to find her daughter. It also jumps back to when Erika and Michael were still married, before Alice was born. It is an absolute page turner, a very fast read that you won't want to put down.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way influenced by anybody.

Love the twists and turns of this book! Was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Erika is on an elevator with her young daughter Alice when it suddenly halts in between floors. They manage to get the door open slightly and Alice is able to escape. The doors then close and Erika is sent on a hunt to find her daughter that has seemed to vanish from thin air. None of the residents have seen the little girl , which turns into a thrilling hunt to find Alice.

This is the story of a mom, whos suffered a terrible loss. Its an okay story, i really wanted to line it. But i find Ericka petty, and ditzy. Now i know why... butt this story wasn't as gripping as it could have been. I feel that it lacked emotion and urgency. Still its not a horrible read.

Wow!! I found this book started out slow for me, I kept reading and I sure am glad I did. Wham! The twists and turns kept going and were they ever scary. Imagine losing you child and thinking a monster has them. A psychological thriller you won’t be able to put down.

Was lucky enough to get the chance to read this from netgalley. An easy 5 star read!! I was so emotionaly involved reading this, picturing myself in this woman's shoes, who's daughter had been taken. And the ending I would never off seen coming! Had me completely shocked!

I have mixed feelings about this book. Mostly all good. It is just that I wanted the wow factor to be amped up just a few more notches. In the last few pages of the book, it had me wide awake and in shock. If I had gotten a bit more of that, I could have been happier. Yet, I was still happy with this book.

Erika started out like a lamb but turned into a lion as the story progressed. She was truly a mother fighting to find her daughter. She had that "mom" strength. The one that you don't want to face if you get in a mother's way. The cast of other characters were not as strong as Erika and therefore this is where that intensity was lacking.

The tone of this book is more of a subtle psychological thriller. It does build up the further you get into the story. I am looking forward to seeing what Mr. Sinclair comes out with next.

I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Day I Lost You’ written by Alex Sinclair, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Erika is with her four-year-old daughter Alice in a lift in the expensive apartment block where her ex-husband Michael Walls resides. She intends retrieving Alice’s doll that she left there the last weekend she visited.
When the lift grinds to a halt on floor seven Alice is scared, scrambles through the narrow gap and disappears. Erika eventually gets out of the lift and searches the fourteen floors of the block but can’t find her daughter. Where has Alice gone? Is she hiding or has she been taken? Is Erika’s ex-husband involved?
This is a fast-paced and exciting story describing a mother’s hunt for her missing daughter. It has plenty of thrills and surprises, with a nail-biting twist at the end which left open-mouthed in amazement. ‘The Day I Lost You’ was easy to read, had an interesting storyline and characters, and kept me hooked from beginning to end. The only drawback as far as I was concerned was how many times Erika called Alice ‘my bunny’ which rapidly become irritating. For this alone I knocked off a star, otherwise it would have deservedly got five.

Gripping, thrilling, thrilling! This was my first book I have read by Alex Sinclair and let me tell you it won't be my last. This book was very well written. It draws you in at the very beginning and keeps your interest through to the very end. I love books that can captivate the audience and keep the momentum going the whole way through, and this book definitely does just that.

The Day I Lost You follows the story of a woman named Erika. She is with her 4 year old daughter Alice as they visit the apartment complex Alice's father, and Erika's ex-husband Michael, lives in to retrieve a toy that Alice had left behind from a previous visit she had with her father. While in the elevator to go up to Michael's apartment, the elevator stops near the 7th floor, the doors get jammed partways open and the elevator lights shut off. Alice is terrified of elevators, and takes the opportunity to run from the jammed elevator and takes off into the hallway of the 7th floor through the open doors of the elevator, Erika calls her to come back but the little girl will not listen. Frantic, Erika tries to escape the elevator as well, but she is unable to squeeze in between the small gap of the jammed elevator doors. Where did Alice run off to? Why did she take off like that, instead of staying with her mom where she would be safe?

The story continues on with Erika's escape from the elevator and the frantic and anxious search for her daughter. She is no where to be found and no one in the apartment complex has seen a little girl who appears to be alone and lost. What is going on? Erika is not sure if this was a freak accident or if someone is out to get her and kidnap her daughter. Will Erika be able to find her daughter?

From all the shocking twists and turns in the book, to the shocking revelations and character building as we read on, you will not be disappointed. If you are a fan of psychological thrillers, then this book is a must to add to your to be read list. I was so shocked at the many surprises in this book, and just wait....There is a huge revelation at the end that I DID NOT see coming. I loved it!

I was hooked from the start of this book and was unable to put it down. A great page turner of a book, that keeps you reading more and more late into the night.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
