The Day I Lost You is easily a mystery that keeps you glued to the book. It’s told by a mother who loses her 4-year-old child in a secure apartment building. It’s told in first person but in both present and past before her daughter Alice was born and her history with her now ex husband. So far so good and then everything falls apart. Erika fails miserably in the mother of the day competition. If there ever was a “dumb blonde” mother this is definitely her. She takes everything out of context, thinks everything is about her to the point of feeling superior to everyone she meets and that includes her daughter. Again the book is fast paced so you keep reading along thinking it can’t get any worse but it can. The ending is so contrived that you literally sit there with your mouth open thinks “that’s the best you could come up with.” I would be embarrassing to recommend this book and I thank NetGalley for letting me give my honest opinion.

Excellent book. Two points of view. Then and Now. Erika's character was very likeable and I felt sympathy for her. Michael's character not at all. Erika brings her young daughter to Michael's apartment to collect her favorite doll left behind on her last visit. She goes missing in the building and a frantic search ensues. I was totally blown away by the ending. Thank you NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

What a gripping read... the opening chapter pulled me right in!

Alex Sinclair, you are one clever writer, and you definitely know how to write a brilliant twist! The Day I Lost You does not disappoint! This story is about every mother's worst nightmare, losing a child. We follow Erika as she goes on a quest to find her 4-year-old daughter, Alice, who goes missing when the elevator stops on a deserted floor of an apartment building.

How can Alice vanish right out of the blue? Will Erika ever find her daughter again? She only let her go for a second...

This is a psychological thriller that is so twisted it keeps you guessing right up until the brilliant end! Highly Recommend

This book was ok at best for me. The whole book basically takes place in a high rise over a series of hours while a woman searches for her daughter who has gone missing during an elevator malfunction. There are flashbacks woven in. What I will say for this book is that the ending is definitely a surprise. I am just not sure that the ending makes sense with the account of what happened throughout the book, especially the beginning. I also thought Erika, the woman searching for her child was basically bumbling around quite a bit during the search for her child and her actions and those of the people around her just didn’t make sense to me in many cases. I appreciated the surprise ending which is always important for me I just wish it made more sense to me.

This is a new author to me although I have his first book still sitting on my kindle unread as yet. I was gripped from the first chapter and really enjoyed Alex's style of writing, particularly how it kept moving from the past to the present it held my interest from the beginning.

Overall this was a gripping story with a great twist at the end which I would never have guessed. I will definitely read more from this author, I can thoroughly recommend, well done Alex and I look forward to your next masterpiece.

Something funny happened when I read this novel, my brain kept finding little issues but my heart was loving it. The plot is a little predictable and unoriginal and yet it kept me turning the pages, completely engrossed. The main character, Erika, kept aggravating me by acting stupid but I still wanted her to be OK and find her missing daughter. The whole situation seemed to strain the limits of plausibility but I simply couldn’t figure out what was going on and, once all was explained, many things made more sense. Thinking about it now, my mind keeps going to certain plot points whose significance was not clear until after the twist that changes everything. I should have seen it coming but didn’t. The anguish of a mother missing her daughter permeates the whole story and it gives it a frantic rhythm. So I will say that this is a very interesting, enjoyable novel that will keep your interest.

Summary
This story takes place in a high end apartment building that Michael Walls resides at. The majority of the book is from the point of view of his ex wife Erika. Unbeknownst to Michael, his ex wife and daughter Alice have arrived to his building to collect a toy that Alice has left behind during one of her visits with her father. Erika and Alice's visit turns drastically wrong when Alice bolts out of the elevator and disappears before her mother can locate her. Every parents worst nightmare unfolds as the reality sets in for Erika that her daughter is now missing.

The story is narrated by Erika, with some chapters being in the present tense with the search for Alice progressing. Other chapters focus on filling the reader in with the past life that she lived with Michael that lead up to their divorce. Michael climbed the ladder to become a high powered, wealthy attorney that had no time for his family. He was a controlling husband that could not understand why Erika felt the need to leave him and take Alice with her. There was an event that took place that Erika often refers to that she felt was the end of their relationship.

My thoughts
Mr. Sinclair, you have managed to do it again! After reading "The Last Thing I Saw" I was expecting another great twist. I was not disappointed! This story seemed straight forward about a mother's pure terror of losing her daughter. We go through the journey of all the emotions she is feeling during this traumatic event that is occurring. We also get a glimpse of all the resentment and distrust she has for Michael. But true to form, there is a major twist at the end.

You no doubt will be in for a surprise. Fantastic ending, I was completely suprised at the turn of events the last couple of chapters.
